5.0 out of 5 stars Scintillating!, November 29, 2002
This review is from: Harvest Moon (Audio CD)
Three accomplished solo harpists with distinctive styles and instruments offer a bushel-full of warm, rich selections from the Celtic, Paraguayan, classical and folk traditions . Most of Sell and Reyes' numbers are their own compositions, while Robertson interprets traditional Irish tunes as well as those of O'Carolan. Just the thing to listen to with your feet up after a hard day's work--relaxing enough to soothe you, yet interesting enough to distract your mind from worries and concerns. Open up the curtains and listen by moonlight! Or better yet, go out and walk or dance in it. And then check out the other releases of all three of these talented artists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Three Tenors? Three Sopranos? No, Three Harpists!, March 30, 2001

John Wheeler (King David's Harp, Inc., Houston, TX.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Harvest Moon (Audio CD)
I'm a serious collector and reviewer of harp albums, especially folk harp albums. Not having much money to devote to the task, I'm therefore very picky about what I let (or keep) in my harp CD collection. I'd recommend this one, *Harvest Moon*, to anyone who appreciates good harp music (or who wants to learn about it).

There are no vocals or other instruments on this recording; just three different kinds of harps, each played by one of the chief exponents of his or her instrument. Kim Robertson plays Celtic harp; Carlos Reyes, Paraguayan harp (and if you've never heard one before, prepare to be happily surprised at its sound). I regret to say that (not having the album before me as I write) I can't remember the name of the concert (pedal) harpist; but she too is excellent (and renowned in her field). Each artist plays in turn, each getting the same number of pieces to play; and they are all excellent works. The contrast of timbres between the solo harps, and the various moods of the works chosen, keeps the musical interest alive throughout.
