The addicting game,

This review is from: Harvest Moon (Video Game)
The Game-10/10 Harvest moon, a farming simulation game, is a very unique game with a good story line to back it up. Being 110% original, this game contains more secrets and things to explore than any other game I have played. With the exception of being a highly difficult game, this makes playing all the more addicting. As you are playing, there are goals you feel you must meet, but only if you are a serious player. Natsume has created a flawless entertainment game;yet, the company is often misunderstood. All the people I have ley play this game feel they must go out and buy one of their own; what can I say, I would do the same thing.
Difficulty-10/10 Although some people think this game is for kids, I am sure a kid would never be able to fathom the world of harvest moon. The game requires a large quantity of work and effort to attain the simplist of things, such as photos for your album and falling in love with another character. Aside from eing difficult, the game will force you into eing responsible foe animals and your social life. Secrets, photos, and being friends with every person in the game requires patience and skill. Music/Sound-10/10 Harvest Moon has different toons for each of the four seasons you play within the year. To my suprise, these repeting songs don't seem to become annoying because you are so focused on the game. As well as good sounds, the game contains many songs for festivals and events. An example of a well done sound effect is when you are nearing the end of a horse race and the crowd begins to cheer, or even the church bells that ring when you are getting married. These are all classic toons that help the game be original. Secrets-10/10 This game totals over 100 secrets that are not facile to achieve. To acquire every power berry, requires great skill and curiosity to explore. I have played over 200 hours on this game and I never cease to discover something I have never seen before, such as a social event or more secrets. Anyone who thinks they have found all there is to find should think twice before making that statement final. Overall-10/10 Harvest Moon is the second best game I have ever played because it prooves to be so difficult;yet, the Star Ocean series requires more effort and skill because the bosses are etherial and just about impossible to beat. Because Harvest Moon uses all the old fashioned farming tools and storylines, this is a game worth playing forever. Pricing at $40 to $50 in your local gamecrazy prooves that it is a rare antique that is hard to find. This game will never get boring due to all that is has to offer, and I asvise others to play this game to find out for themselves.

The original classic.,

When I first found this, I had absolutely no idea that this game would be so good. All I really wanted was just a little break from Squaresoft RPGs, but what I got was the first game in a whole new awesome series.By now, everyone knows what Harvest Moon is all about: You have a certain number of years to run a successful ranch by farming crops, raising animals, and selling various kinds of produce. You upgrade your tools into stronger and more efficient ones, and you visit town to buy things or talk to people. Now, I've played the PSX version, Harvest Moon: Back to Nature as well. Although that one is excellent (and, from what I hear, better than the N64 version), I have to agree with the other reviewer, Bart: This game just has a classic "feel" about it that the others can't quite match. Maybe it's the style, or maybe it's just because it was the original and the first one I played. I don't know. Anyway though, if you can still find this game in any capacity, get it. And then, after you've seen what it's like, grab the Playstation and Game Boy versions. They may not be exactly the same or inspire that same feeling, but you certainly won't be disappointed either.

This may only be the first in a great series but this game has that feeling none of the other harvest moon games have. In my opinion I like this Harvest moon game the best.It may not have sheep or all those festivals and events but the gameplay has that touch others dont. There are so many different things to do and get that i never got the same complete ending twice. I strongly advise you to try this game!

Harvest Moon- an underestimated RPG:Harvest Moon opens a whole other door in RPG gaming world. Instead of a violent stat/level RPG, this game is a peaceful role play of a farmer's life. It may not sound great at first, but this classic is as addicting as Tetris and Pacman (just a lot more fun!). Graphics: (4/5) Considering this is an old school game, the graphics are pretty darn good. I love all of the detailed farm matter, such as the indented rocks with signature Japenese anime marks on them. And with the weeds, every little stem and leaf is visible in great detail and color. I love the brightness of the game, it just puts me in a pretty good mood. The only problem with the graphics is the people. The farmer looks pretty cool. But aside from that, the people are stick thin and dont have much of a face. Yet since this is an old school game, I give a ton of credit for the graphics. Story (3/5) This is probably the game's worst point. The only part of story is this 15 second cutscene with barely any dialogue at the start. Basically, the farmer's parents see how much can be accomplished within 2 and a half years... and drive off in their car to the airport to go to ditch their kid and go to Disney World (just kidding about that part.) So meh, the storyline is ok. Controls (5/5) Well, what more can I say. The controls are easy and simple to use. Every button has a use... so that's the scoop. Since I played this game so long ago, I appologize for not having a list of the controls (my memory only goes back so far...) Gameplay (5/5) This is what lead to other Harvest Moon games... the amazing and unique style of gameplay. Farming may not sound so great, right? But in this game, there are TONS AND TONS of options of what to do. Because time stops at 6 o'clock, the possibilities are ENDLESS. To start, getting your house upgraded is really cool. I love how new furniture is added to the living space, and the ultra house is so big, nice, and spacious! Also, without upgrades the house would be plain and boring for the 2 1/2 year gamespan. Even though there are only two upgrades in this game, Natsume thought outside of the box with Harvest Moon 64's 5+ upgrades. Next, after the fields have been weeded and have been cleared, comes crops and grass. Planting crops is the main money making system for this game. Each bag of crops covers a 3 by 3 space, making nine crops in total. That is how you make the big profits. With an entire field of crops, planting will make your farmer turn from rags to riches in a matter of days. When that income is yours, try planting some grass (again, in a 3 by 3 space.)The grass makes fodder (food) for your animals, so once enough fodder is gained, raising livestock would be another responsibility. Ok, once the grass has been sickled into fodder, its time to purchase the animals. There are two kinds of animals to raise (aside from the horse and dog which require nothing)- cows and chickens. The barn in this game is extremely big, holding up to 12 cows. With that much livestock, a $1300+ profit can be made everyday. Next come chickens. Chickens are very easy to take care of and lay an egg each day if you feed them. Chickens are also affordable, as you can breed your own flock with just one. Do this by placing an egg in the incubator and wait one full week. Finally comes marriage. I believe there are four girls that you can marry in this game. Simply give them gifts (eggs, storebought gifts, etc.) every day and eventually their heart level will raise. Once it is at a certain level, you can propose using the blue feather. Once married, farm life will change. If you have played other HM games, you'll notice you can only have one kid. But in this, you can have up to three children. Overall (4.5/5) Overall this is a great game that is enjoyable for all ages. From farming to raising cattle, this game has been a blast for every gamer who has tried it. Since this game is extremely rare and expensive, finding it at a yardsale of fleamarket would be the best and cheapest way. Of course if you wanted it now, get a used one off of this site.

When I got this game, I really didn't know what it was, but after playing it for about 15 minutes, I was hooked! This game might be old, but it's VERY addictive. No matter how good the graphics are in a game, the most important factor is the overall gameplay. And Harvest Moon's gameplay is AWSOME!

This is a very excellent game. When I first played it was very hard so I put in some game genie cheats. But I was determined to beat it the traditional way. But any way, you own a farm and you have it for 2 years and then your parents come and it is the end of the game. You basicly just buy crops or animals and make money and make a family and much more. A must buy.

Let me get something out of the way; Harvest Moon is a hidden gem on the SNES. At the time it was released, it was a relatively obscure game, but it has since spawned many sequels. Harvest Moon took the relatively boring concept of farming, and created an addicting game. As such, this series has a legion of fans.
That being said, unless you're totally intent on acquiring this game in its cartridge form, there are other ways you can obtain it for far less money. Many of you might chime in and recommend emulation, but since I don't have any experience with emulation and don't know the legal requirements of the emulation process, I hesitate to suggest it. However, there is a legitimate way to acquire this game for far less money by purchasing it off of the Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console. The Virtual Console has many classic games spanning a variety of systems. Many of the these games are FAR cheaper than their cartridge counterparts, and some of them are not. Harvest Moon currently retails for 800 Wii points or $8.00 on the Virtual Console. What you will need: 1. You will need a Wii, and while the console will set you back $250, the Wii will essentially pay for itself because it offers MANY rare titles in addition to New Adventure Island. 2. You will need internet access. The Wii is Wi-Fi compatible right out of the box, but if you don't have a wireless router, you can purchase a fairly inexpensive device that will allow you to connect an ethernet cord to the Wii. If you have to purchase such a device, you may also need to purchase an ethernet cord or at least a longer one than what you have. 3. You will need an SD card to download your games onto. It is possible to download your games onto the Wii's hardware, but hardware space is severely limited, so I would definitely recommend purchasing a card or two. They are fairly inexpensive on amazon, and a variety of SD cards are compatible with the Wii, not just the Wii brand SD cards. You will also need to download a Wii update that will allow you to play virtual console games off of your SD card. 4. You will need a debit/credit card to purchase Wii points that will allow you to purchase games. Simply input the correct information in the required fields, and that's all there is to it. 5. Lastly, check out a certain website that I am not allowed to mention here for reviews of Virtual Console games so you can make an informed purchase. It's also worth noting that the Virtual Console offers many games that can't be bought on Amazon like import games such as Sin and Punishment (really fun) or NEO GEO games, which I have yet to find on Amazon; however, those are just a few examples. I could certainly elaborate further, but I think you have the general idea. In conclusion, the Virtual Console has literally hundreds of games to choose from, and it doesn't end there, either. You can also purchase titles from Nintendo's WiiWare service. For the retro gamer, the Wii can be an invaluable resource, and it comes highly recommended.

I would like to start by saying this was a great beginning to a wonderful franchise... Sorta, after early 2000's I feel Harvest moon has gone way downhill but anywhoo! You get a farm and decide to try to revive it and in two years the town decides if you get to stay or not. The game flows but is a little glitchy. Not enough to affect play. The short days will keep you on your seat convincing yourself you are gonna stop, just after one more day. The pros are as followed:
+ addicting simplistic game play + Smooth controls + This is definitely one of the flashier Snes titles + Kept me seated till the end + Your horse can be used to put items in shipping bin If you enjoyed other harvest moons or if even the sound of this game catches your attention it probably will be a positive experience. This one starts out hard though. The days don't seem long enough at first but once you get better tools it gets much easier. However I have a few gripes which are... -No Item Rucksack-(carrying 1 item at a time is extremely time consuming and annoying) -Even though the short days work for the game at times its annoying that its impossible to talk to everyone, give gifts to everyone -- IE no Rucksack --, and take care of crops all in one day. -Not only can you not grow and plant crops in winter -- Like most HM games-- but not in fall either. - To my knowledge the game actually ends after the two years are up. All in all a great game, However Not worth a 60+ price tag. you could by a 64 and Hm 64 with that... Yeah that would be tight, or back to nature. Also with a wii it's available for download on Wii channel For 8 dollars. If you are a fanatic though I guess the cartridge would make on heck of a collectors item...3.5 to 4 stars!

this game is so addicting, it never ends. u start out as a boy who has a farm and you go to the town and talk to everyone and u buy some seeds and just start planting and watering them (you also get a dog, yay) and after they grow u pick them up and put them in a bin and get money, and just repeat the process until u can get cows chickens, other crops. u can chop wood and make a bigger house, get a wife, have kids, even build a greenhouse to grow crops in the winter. u can go fishing, go exploring in caves, go to church, go to a bar. the options are limitless. and u dont ever have to stop. the way the game is layed out it reminds me of zelda, another great game. i used to spend hours playing this game, i have wasted so much of my life trying to build up my farm lol. best thing to do is mute the game music, put in a good cd and kick back and play away. the only bad thing about this game is the price yikes almost 80 dollars, its worth it though. u wont be disappointed with this game. its a cult classic and with good reason. the sequels are fun as well but i like to stick with the original sometimes.
