A great introduction!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Harvest (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) (Mass Market Paperback)
The first novel based on the WB series introduces you to the characters. It's an exact copy of the pilot episode were Buffy comes to Sunnydale and meets Xander, Willow, Cordelia, Giles and Angel as they learn more about The Master and his harvest plans. This is an excellent book for all who missed the pilot, but also for those who watched it, it's still a good read. I gave it 4 stars. It lost 1 star due to the fact that it's an exact copy.

I am a latecomer to the Buffy mythos. The show had already been on TV for a year when I finally rented the videotape. And it wasn't until the end of the second year that I started watching it regularly. As a result, there is a huge gap in my knowledge of Buffy lore, which can only be made up by studying the ancient tomes. "The Harvest" has eluded me for some time. One of the problems with being a middle-aged Buffy fan is that your friends look at you strangely when you mention it. Not only did I have no idea how Buffy got to Sunnydale, how she met the rest of the Scooby gang, etc., I had no one to ask about it. "The Harvest" is a fun, easily read book that covers the first episode perfectly. For me, it brought a lot of the puzzle pieces together. It lacks much of the pain and anguish of the Buffy of the later years and so is quite a bit of plain good fun. Buffy's quips at vampires seem quippier and Xander's antics still have their charm. Willow's honesty is winning, and Cordelia is, well, Cordelia is Cordelia. Giles doesn't get as much play as he should, but that may be a bit more characterization than it's fair to expect from an 146 page retelling of a TV episode. As a matter of fact, it's amazing just how fresh this book is, even after countless Buffy books and episodes. We get to follow Buffy as she makes new friends and discovers that she didn't quite manage to leave Slaying behind. Right of the bat (bad pun) she is embroiled in the battle with the master that spills over into many episodes. This is necessary reading for beginning Buffyites. Be prepared for entertainment, suspense and a whopping good finish.

Novelisation of the first episodes...,
By Alaria (England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Harvest (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) (Mass Market Paperback)
"The Harvest" is a novelisation based on the first episodes of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series. We are introduced to Buffy Summers, the vampire slayer of her generation, as she arrives in Sunnydale hoping to escape from the vampires and start a new life. It soon becomes apparent that she has picked the wrong town... This was an easy-to-read, well written novelisation. It kept me hooked and I read it straight through in an hour. I have seen both episodes it is based on - Welcome to the Hellmouth and The Harvest - but that didn't stop me from enjoying it. Even though it's pretty much a transcript of each episode, it's interesting to be able to read what the characters are thinking. I recommend this to all Buffy The Vampire Slayer fans. ~Jenna~

What an excellant way to start out the Buffy series.,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Harvest (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) (Mass Market Paperback)
I found out that the series had started when I read an issue of TV Guide. I went to the library when they were having the annual book sale and there it was begging me to buy it. I took the book home and read it all in a short period if time. It was hard to put the book down, as any other good book. Buffy and the gang won the battle and used their knowledge and Buffy's power to accomplish the task at hand. I won't miss another book the the series. Keep up the good work. Watching the series will also keep the need of the books to be published so the fans out there keep up the good work and keep this series alive.

Premiere book in the Buffy Series: off to a great start,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Harvest (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) (Mass Market Paperback)
I was in a bookstore one day in the young adult section when I noticed it. 'The Harvest'. And there they all were, on the cover-Buffy, Xander, Willow, Giles and even (ick) Cordelia. So I bought it, exstaticly. The book is well written (it's by the same author who wrote the movie novelization of Buffy) but considering it's just a novelization of the two-parter premier, she won't really get any points for originality. I enjoyed it completely though, and if you love 'Buffy', pick up this book NOW.

the pilot for buffy,

buffy is new at sunnydale. she just wants to fit in. make new friends, date boys and try to survive school. but what even her own mother does not know is that she is a special girl picked to fight the evil that lurks just around the corner. how can a girl like this with superhuman powers blend in with her lifestyle that is anything but normal? this makes for a fascinating book but not as good as the tv show. for all who have not caught the buffy bug this is a great place to start. at the beginning.

Definitely a good buy,

A year earlier, when I was going through my Buffy obsession, I picked up as many books as I could with my birthday money - The Harvest being one of them. I read it, but since I had already rented the first episode, I put it down. Then I lost interest in Buffy but came back to it again a couple months ago. I picked up The Harvest and was surprised at how much I had missed in the episode, but I found myself knowing what witty remark the characters were going to say next. It was great to follow along and read the book again - especially since I had seen Welcome to the Hellmouth and The Harvest - because I could see the episode happening in my head. (It didn't help that I was listening to my Buffy soundtrack at the time. :) ) Anyway, this book earned its rating.

This novelzation tie-in about the hit TV show was great. I really enjoyed it. I love the show, but I even think the book was a bit better because you got more info. Learned more about what they were thinking, and wanting. I loved it. Read it, enjoy. (This novel was especially written for the critics of the series who say this could never happen- it could. Buffy is just a normal teenager with wierd problems. I can relate.)

I am a huge fan of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer and I have to say that these novelizations of the episodes could have not been written any better. I had not seen the first episodes of Buffy before reading this book, so reading "The Harvest" was a good way to catch up!! I recommend this book to anyone. Once you start reading it you will not be able to put it down!!

The book is descirbed in the best ways of an author could descirbe in it. Its got great charcateristics, a good way to visual it so that you can see it in your mind. Its also got some good action that you could tell that it was going on. Once I saw it on TV, I liked it and from then too now andI haven't missed a single one. The series is the based on the book. I had walked into the library and I seen the book, and the next thing that had happen is that it came home with me. Once I started to read the book I could not put it down. Since then I have been reading every-single book that comes out on Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
