The man who wrote the bible,

This review is from: A Harvest Saved (Text) (Paperback)
This slim but fact-filled and well written book is a biography of Francis O'Neill (1848-1936), The Chicago Chief of Police whose pioneering collections of Irish music (particularly the 1850 and the 1001) saved dozens, perhaps hundreds, of beautiful tunes from extinction.
There are many musical examples given, so it helps to be able to read; but this is not essential to enjoy the story. Thoroughly recommended to anyone with more than a passing interest in Irish folk music. |
