Anyone who's ever done it knows the indescribable feeling--getting Yahtzee in one roll! Of course, this five-of-a-kind phenomenon only happens once in a blue moon. The rest of the time, players must be content with a three-roll full house, large or small straight, or any other combination of five dice. In this seductive game of luck and strategy, players have three tries each turn to roll dice in hopes of obtaining the elusive Yahtzee--or racking up points in one of the 12 other scoring categories. For a real challenge, go for a bonus Yahtzee--two or more in one game! This parlor classic has captivated and vexed players, young and old, since 1956. Game includes five dice, dice cup, 10 bonus chips, score pad, and instructions (English and Spanish). For one or more players. --Emilie Coulter

A year ago, I bought the original version and was immediately addicted. Yahtzee is a really fun game, however the dice are really cheap; the black paint in the number holes comes off easily and the dice themselves are too lightweight. My best advice to any future Yahtzee players is: buy either the Deluxe Edition or the Deluxe Game Folio Edition. The dice are better quality and the cups and playing trays each have felt lining so there's less noise when you roll. Pencils are also included. The best feature with the Game Folio Edition is that everything is stored in a convenient carrying case; You can pack it up and take it with you, which makes it great for travelling.

In addition to being fun, playing family games can be "quietly educational" (i.e., we know the kids are learning something, but it's not the overt purpose of the interaction). Yahtzee, a classic in its own gaming right, is also a wonderfully educational game. Consider how quickly young folks just beginning to grapple with addition and subtraction pick up the necessary skills when their score is on the line. Yahtzee is noisy, wonderful fun that everyone in our family enjoys. Unlike games targeted specifically for little ones (think Candyland and Chutes and Ladders), Yahtzee excites players old and young and in between. Happy gaming!

We got this game for our nine year old son for Christmas. We only had to play it with him a few times before he and his seven year old brother got the hang of it. Now they can play without any help from us. It is also a great game because it is one their dad and I like to play with them. Our two and four year old can even get in on the action by teaming up with one of us and rolling the dice for us. It is a great family game.

my video speaks to the pros & cons of yahtzee:

PROs - family/group friendly, easy to learn, educational aspects are counting, process of elimination, points accumulation
CONs - bulky packaging, cheap plastic cup that is VERY noisy (suggestion: use a coozie instead)

I love Yahtzee, and for years, I had just used random 6 siders taking from other games, and printed the scorecards off the internet, but I was out shopping and saw this "classic" edition in the clearance bin for $7, and thought, "The dice look cool and maybe its time to get a "real" version. So I bought it and took it home and we played it, and now I see why it was in the clearance bin. The black holder for the dice, that is supposed to act as a rolling cup is rubbish. It doesn't stand up, so someone has to be constantly holding it upright or all the dice spill out. The dice themselves are cheap, lightweight dice that feel like you could crumble them in your bare hands, and I fully expect them to break at some point. It does come with a full sheet Yahtzee score cards (yippee), and NO rolling tray. Even my moms "cheap" Yahtzee game from the 90's included a really cheap rolling tray. Hasbro has redefined CHEAP for games, a bit too cheap for my taste. Someday I will just buy one of the Deluxe editions and be done with it.

I got this game for my son and we have been playing it for years. Its a game I played as a child and loved. The thing about yahtzee is that it can be a very simple and straight forward game...as kids play it...or you can add some stragegy, more like adults play it...
I got this regular edition instead of one of the fancier editions that are available from time to time. I would say that the box on the regular edition is pretty prone to not being all that sturdy.. I have had to tape the corners a few times. The *limited editions* i have seen seem to be a bit more well made. When I replace this game, it will probably be with one of those just for the sturdiness factor.
That said..this is really the perfect family game. Easy for all but the youngest kids and fun for adults. It takes up little closet room when your storing it... (an issue when most kids games come in gigantic boxes)...it doesnt require a huge set up before playing (something that makes me nuts, altho doesnt seem to bother my son any)
Its really perfect.

This action-packed, high intensity, role-of-the dice thriller will leave you breathless; it will leave you shocked; and it may boggle your mind when you find out that your opponent(s) just beat you by one point during their final turn. This game is a game of luck; it's a game of skill; and it's a game of chance. The suspense that builds inside you everytime you roll the dice is overwhelming. Nobody knows what the dice will read once they leave the cup. I recommend this game to the entire family. The emotion that is felt during the play of the game is one that you'll want repeated over and over. This is why Yahtzee is my number one favorite game of all time.

This is a superb fun and a little bit of strategy with some luck game. It is great for couples.
The only room for improvement for this particular version is that the plastic cup for rolling the dice is CLUNKY and NOISY. You can still roll the dice with your hands. You may want to consider the deluxe version for the valvet board.
A lot of FUN. Make sure you read the instructions to get the most out of the game! Happy Yahtzeeing....
