We are a very debt-averse family, so my first thought upon cracking open this game is, "Why would I want my child to play a game that encourages her to take on debt?" Consequently, I first gave her a lecture about how it didn't reflect real life, and in real life you should avoid debt and save money. However, once we played it a couple times, I realized it did, in fact, contain decent life lessons.

Yes, you have to take on debt to move up, but in order to win the game, you have to use debt wisely: you have to take on only as much debt as you can afford to pay off in a reasonable time frame, and you have to weigh the costs and benefits of what you are buying and think about whether the business will pay off in the long-term enough to both cover your debt and turn a steady profit. In order to "move up," you have to pay off all your debt and have cash on hand. In short, it teaches kids how to use short-term debt to achieve long-term gains rather than simply consuming willy nilly, and it teaches them that you must pay off your debt if you want to advance. Basically, unless you pay off your debt every go-round the board, you will incur enormous costs; so, in this sense, it teaches them about how best to use credit cards - charge, but always pay in full on or before the due date. Do this, and you build good credit and enjoy an interest-free loan (which reflects reality).

It's really quite a complicated game in terms of the many rules (we had to re-read the rules the first two times we played and throughout the play), and there are lots of pieces. But oddly, none of this was daunting to my nine-year-old.

I recently picked up Charge Large for my younger cousins (ages 11 & 13). What a perfect game for all of us!! It's a modern-day money game w/ properties and all, this time around w/ credit cards too. It taught the younger ones responsibility & how to build credit, and for me and the bf we had just as much fun with the challenge of the game! I'd say it's a great learning tool, (they won't even realize they are learning.) Cute packaging too, I definitely recommend.

Charge Large is an excellent educational game that helps your little one learn a little about credit cards. It recommends the age start at 12; however, my 10 year old played the game well. With the exception of all the rules you have to remember, the game reminds you of Monopoly. The only thing that bugged me were all the little pieces you have to keep up with. Otherwise, it is an excellent game.

I only purchased this because it was on sale. Gave it to my granddaughters for Christmas. It was a hit! They are having fun and hopefully learning something as the advertising suggested.

I buy these financial games so I can really learn more finance education and see it in action, but, it's Basically a monopoly with a few more rules and peices and credit cards, I learned nothing from this that I didn't already know from monopoly. A complete waste of money, I would have rather just play monopoly.
