Or maybe just one: Pointless.
I have played a hand-held Yahtzee game that was more fun. My wife is an inveterate Yahtzee player, she gave up after ten minutes. It moves so fast you'd have to be under 12 or have ADHD to keep up with the automatic re-rolls. It proves the adage, "the house always wins", and as this is primarily for solo play, you are the house.
How can you lose a game with no competition? It auto-scores for you, and even calculates the total. It might as well be completely automated for all the interaction involved. I felt like a chimp performing basic intelligence tests.
The technology is pretty cool, so a star for that. But one of my favorite parts of "real" Yahtzee is the interactivity- poring over which combos of dice to hold, which to re-roll, adding score- human interaction- all gone. The forth game allows for multiple players, but the first three are so frustrating I can't think of anyone I would choose upon to inflict.
Sometimes it simply does not respond. When choosing a game from the "menu", it often as not fails to accept the choice. When lining up the tiles in an attempt to play a game, I see the first 4 displaying their numbers, but the 5th is giving that weird "up-arrow" display, and noting I can do can talk it out of it.
It's hostile and unfriendly. Not only are you expected to make your keep/re-roll choice in about 3 seconds, sometimes it does not respond at all. Low battery? I don't know, but sometimes I seem to have to fight it just to get the game to launch. It's aggravating.Read more ›
I also found it hard to see the little screen and I tried several different kinds of light to find the best one, none of them seemed to work. The scoring happens really fast not giving you a chance to figure out what is happening, but then it takes a long time for it to reset back to the game choice menu.
My two year old grandson has had fun playing with these little squares, using them like blocks. That is about the extent of the entertainment value. These might be fun if you were stuck with no power for some reason but 5 dice which would take up less room would be far more useful. You can't even make up your own game on these, they must work according to the program.
There are four games included in the package. Three of the four games are solo games and the only multi player game that exists is sad, try to get 5 of a kind faster than anyone else. I am glad I didn't pay money for this item or it would be going back immediately.
Don't waste your time or money on this game. It is only Yahtzee because they slapped that name on it!
There was just something more fun about blowing on the dice and making a fool of myself trying to believe that would bring me luck. ;-)
My husband does like playing the solo Poker game...so it's not a total loss. If you have a poker lover in your family..it might be worthwhile to check out for that person.
On another note, the packaging here is watseful. The plastic was difficult to get into (yes it is not shoplifter friendly but I also ruined a pair of scissors on it and found it to be excessive). Also there was a rules card in the package. Why not make this a set of stickers for inside the storage box so that they never get lost. Five years from now..no rules card...no play game. :-(
You can play Yahtzee poker. You can play Yahtzee wild. You can play Yahtzee Max, and you can play Yahtzee Pass. But you can't play Yahtzee.
I just wanted to play Yahtzee. That's all. It's not much of a request. I mean, a Yahtzee game that lets you play Yahtzee.
What were they thinking?
You press the button on each die to turn it on, line the five dice up so that they're all touching. That links them so they can pass information back and forth. On the game menu, you choose which game you want to play. That triggers an automatic dice roll. The numbers flash on the little screens and you watch what comes up. If you don't want sound, you can mute the game by pressing the buttons on the two end dice.
Once you see what you rolled, you decide what to keep and what to reroll, just like with "real" dice. To hold dice, leave them touching. Separate out those you want to reroll - so they're not touching each other - and after a short (very short) pause and beep they will reroll. To hold a rerolled die add it to your collection of dice touching each other. "Unholding" a die will cause it to reroll. It's very simple, very cool to watch.
The dice are very cool. It's fun to line them up, turn them on and watch them do their thing. I love the absence of the sound of dice rolling. It really grates on me after awhile and has always been the big downside to any game of Yahtzee. Rattling in a plastic cup is even worse. I've always banned that in my games for sanity's sake.Read more ›

This is a pretty fun game. You need a flat surface to play since they need to stay connected most of the time to play.Published 8 months ago by Krissoccer12
