A dice game version of Battleship,

First off, this game has nothing in common with the classic game of Battleship in which players place ships on a hidden 10x10 grid and then attempt to locate their opponents ships using trial and error. The only similarities between classic Battleship and this game are that they both involve sinking boats as a core theme of game play. Battleship Express is actually more like Yahtzee than Battleship.
The game consists of rolling six sided dice (up to 7 at a time) and attempting to roll 'hits' which are denoted on the die. Each die has 1 'hit' and the other 5 sides are images of the different boats. There is no hidden game board on which ships are placed. Players just alternate choosing a boat to attack with, choosing a boat to attack, and then roll dice to see what happens. There is little to no strategy in the game. Players who enjoy Yahtzee will probably like this game, while players who prefer strategy games will hate it. The game is suitable for children, as it is very easy to play. Games last 15-20 minutes, so it is great for younger kids with shorter attention spans, or those cramped for time but looking for some naval warfare gaming action. I did not like this game at all and found it to be monotonous. However, I can understand how many others might enjoy it (especially children) so I am giving it 3 stars. The game is well made, and the 'everything fits in a small case' element is quite nice. However, I would suggest getting the full size Battleship instead, as I think it teaches more about strategy, systematic problem solving, and even diligence (some of those games take forever!) while this game teaches little to nothing, aside from how to roll dice.

These games have reinvigorated game night for my family. I highly recommend this product for families, ages 7+ years.
We usually do a game night during the week. Our main problems were two-fold: 1. The shorter/quicker games often became boring or repetitive, or 2. The more exciting games could, depending on the game, run for longer than we had set aside, leaving my kids frustrated that we couldn't finish the game before bedtime. Hasbro created these self-contained Express games that can be played approximately 20 minutes. These games come in a plastic container that hold everything you need to play. Pop open the lid and begin! Battleship comes with two different games. It is based on cards that have the different battleships and rolling dice. The basic premise is that you have a fleet of ships that you line up in a particular order. Each one comes with "strength" numbers, meaning how much fire power it can emit and how much attack it can sustain. The dice are labeled with different colors or an explosion symbol. At the beginning of your turn, you decide which ship you are going to attack with and which player you are going to attack. You then roll the dice three times to attempt to sink their ship. The first player to successfully sink three ships wins. This game is exciting but has a discreet play-time (usually around 20 minutes). We often are able to play a couple of rounds before bed. It is satisfying in that we can finish several games before bedtime and have multiple "winners" so everyone is happy. We have now purchased all but one of the "Express" games from Hasbro, and all of them are equally as good. We own: Battleship Monopoly Clue Sorry (we don't have Scrabble) They are also great for travel, because everything is contained in the plastic container for storage and the dice can be rolled inside the container for easy play. I highly recommend these games for family game night, travel, or any time you just want to have a little fun.

I love the traditional Battleship, and had been very impressed with the other 20 Minutes Games in this series. Battleship is a lot of fun giving you a great spin on the traditional version. I have only played this with 2 people, but I'm sure the more people that were playing the greater the challenge and thrill of the game there would be. It is certainly worth the $5!

This portable game I gave to our 11 year old son, but we bring it camping and we all enjoy playing it. It has a sturdy hard plastic case to store the game in, and the game can be played in a short amount of time. I recommend it.

The Express games are great for all ages - our "gang" of forty-somethings plays them all the time, but I bought this one for my 12 year old niece, confident that she will have just as much fun with it.

This Battleship Express blew me away by veering hard to port from my expectations! Instead of the tedium of calling out individual spaces to sink stationary ships, players roll dice to attempt to sink their opponent's lead ships.
The game is now open for two to four players, and it is still over in 20 minutes or so. This game is not Battleship--but it is a new twist, and it is worth trying out!

The great thing about this game is it is fast. It was easy enough for my 6 year old to understand, and everyone enjoys it! My teen sister loves to play, as do my husband and I.
The only draw back to this game is it is not the classic Battleship game. This should be very obvious. It is completely different from battleship. However, that does not mean this "new" version is any less fun!

We took this game on a recent family vacation and it was a huge hit. Each game takes about 20 minutes to play so it is quick and fun. You roll dice to try and sink the ships of other players. While it doesn't have much in common with the original battleship it is still a great game. As a parent I like how easy it is to clean up and keep all the pieces in one place. I also like that the game can be played by two, three or four players. The game was simple enough that my 5 and 7 year old kids understood the rules and could play it with each other. It was fun enough that my husband and I also liked to play. It's hard to find a game that kids and adults can enjoy together. We've been home a week and they still want to play it every single day. The Sorry Express game is fun also. We like this series of games so much we are going to try out a couple more.

We got this battleship to take travelling, but it's not really that fun for our children (who LOVE the classic battleship). It's really just a card game where you have to line up your cards and then attack each others' ships by rolling the dice. The whole appeal of the traditional game IMHO is the hidden grid where you're mapping coordinates, and this game doesn't have that, which is a disappointment.

This is a fun game that is definitely quick if you don't have much time. I prefer the real battleship but this one does the trick.
