3.0 out of 5 stars Fun adaptation, but cheaply made.
I am basing my comments on the fact I had the classic Game of Life back in the 80's. That game was fun and it was solidly made. The spin wheel was made more like a flywheel (of sorts) to give it that "Wheel of Fortune" level of spin. I am basing my comments on the fact I had the classic Game of Life back in the 80's. That game was fun and it was solidly made. The spin wheel was made more like a flywheel (of sorts) to give it that "Wheel of Fortune" level of spin. The extra parts would fit in so perfectly on the board and into the box that you didn't need to take apart the board. The little things they threw in the game are fun too. However this isn't the original. So here the comparison:

- It's not as solidly made. The parts of the game board you attach are made of a lot thinner plastic and aren't made to stay on the board when you pack up back in the box.

- The spinning wheel is a travesty of design compared to the original. It's just a plastic wheel you drop in it's place. No effort was made to reduce friction and give it that "flywheel" feel.

- The game is still fun in spite of all this.

This Simpsons version of course adds the flavor of Springfield to the mix. Many of the landmarks you recall from the TV show are there along with a mess of little details that make the game fun for fans. I won't go so far as to say it's a dream come true for major fans expecting lots of trivia and inside jokes, but it's still fun.

I can understand why it was cheaply made. Companies cut corners all the time. I don't like the fact they did so on the spinning wheel here as that does cut into the quality of the game significantly. However the rest is understandable and acceptable. All in all I still recommend this for Simpsons and Game of Life fans. Just don't spend a whole lot of money on it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sort of cheaply made, March 26, 2005

All the Simpson's trivia is fun, but the quality of the game is poor. Seems like it was made so cheaply so the Simpson's franchise could suck all the profit out of it. I read the other reviews and decided to buy the game only because of the buy one get one free offer. The spinner barely spins. I think I need to go buy a 10 sided dice.

2.0 out of 5 stars LOVE the Simpsons, but this is cheap & poorly constructed, January 5, 2005

Let me start off by saying that I adore the Simpsons, and I just love playing Life, so I was thrilled to get this game for Christmas. When it came time to play it, however, I was deeply disappointed. Maybe I am spoiled because I have one of the great old Life boards, but this game is super flimsy. The buildings don't fit in the slots on the board right and come out while you are trying to play and even the spinner seems like it's going to come off when you spin it (it did once while we played it) and it doesn't spin smoothly. In the old game of Life, when you are done you can just fold up the board and put it away. In this version, you have to take the whole thing apart- all the buildings, bridges, the spinner and all to make it fit in the box, then reassemble it when you want to play again (which in my case, probably won't happen).

The rules are a little different, and not quite as fun, but I do have to say that some of the cards and spaces are pretty funny, which is it's saving grace. It was a great idea, just not executed very well. I would only recommend this to diehard Simpson's memorabilia fans, just not anyone who actually wants to play the game.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Huge Disappointment, January 10, 2005

The Game of Life: Simpson's Edition is a failure of concept and design. The quality of the game is so low as to be almost nonexistent. The board and the spinner are terminally flimsy--the spinner almost being useless it is so unsmooth and rickety. To require assembly of all the houses and everything every time one plays the game is a slight against anyone with patience or capacity for joy. The game itself isn't very fun--differing from classic Life, in that its not very fun. I love the Simpson's. I hate this game. With my whole heart.

2.0 out of 5 stars Do NOT pay full price!, January 13, 2008

I feel like I always get a lot out of the games I buy b/c we MAKE them fun even if they are duds. We alter the rules to suit us. For ex, we often make a kid and teen/adult team so the little ones can play along too.
This game is very cheaply made. (95% of Simpson products are the same. Those Krusty product jokes must be based on the real Simpsons merchandise.)It takes a long time to set up and disassemble the plastic pieces for each game. Your token is still the classic Life car with the colored pegs. Come'on, couldn't they have done better?
Life is a bit of difficult game b/c it's harder for children to understand and by the time they do, they probably won't want to play. Adults are unlikely to enjoy the novelty of bills, etc b/c that's their everyday life.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hasbro made this Edition ... the Origial was made by Milton Bradley, December 11, 2005

After reading all the other reviews I noticed at the bottom other products people looked at...I did not realize until then that The Simpsons Edition is made by another company...Hasbro. Maybe that explains the difference in the quality that all reviews seem upset about. I have not check out to see if the current The Game of Life (still manufactured by Milton Bradley) is also as poorly constructed.

I would not go out to purchase this game, however, it is a request on a child's Christmas list that we are to purchase a gift for in our family name draw.

The game's cards and bills have their own simpsons humor, and each spot on the board reminds me of the moments from the TV show- love the details. Only the game would be more collectable if the figures for the buildings were coloured instead of plain white. Other than that, Love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly fun... must-have for any Simpsons' fan!, January 28, 2008
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Hasbro The Game of Life - Simpsons Edition (Toy)
I love this Simpsons edition of the Life board game. It is hilarious and includes many small fun facs or direct quotes that a diehard fan like me remembers from the series. The first time I played it with my two smaller siblings, I couldn't stop laughing all through the game.
As far as the gameplay goes, there are many nuances like buying a house, getting a job (depending on your level of education,) buying insurance for your car and/or house, all with humorous names (like Otto Insurance.) True Simpsons fans will understand this pun.
The durability of this game is great! There is nothing to break in it. The tokens are plastic cars which couldn't be broken short of a direct nuclear missile hit and the game board includes plastic houses (like Springfield Elementary School, the powerplant, Burns' Manor, etc.) and only the money is likely to be crumpled during gameplay (especially with my kids.)
Overall it's a GREAT game and I recommend it very much.

If you love the Simpsons and enjoy the game of Life, you will love this product. Very funny Simpsons references, we still laugh at them even after having seen them 100 times while playing the game. It creatively integrated all the elements of Springfield into the game.
