A fine enough game for its age group,

I bought this for a 4 year old who loves the Princesses. The box is quite attractive, all glittery and with pictures of the princesses and castles. The box is even pretty sturdy, I don't see it coming apart at the seams too quickly. The wishing wheel spinner is two pieces of plastic that you place on top each other and whirl around. It doesn't come attached to the game board, so you have to put it there before each game and take it off afterwards to fold the board. Not a big deal. The plastic for this wheel is a nice weight, but if someone steps on it or tries to bend it, it won't hold up too well. The playing board itself is very colorful, almost too busy with pictures of castles, trees and stepping stones, sometimes we would lose the die on it because it blended in so well. They give you a white cube for a die and you have to stick 6 stickers on it for the numbers. They are glittery number stickers and not the easiest to read. I wish they had put a nicer border on the game board like is shown on the back picture of the box, but instead it looks like the edges were just cut off and not finished off with a black border. The playing board isn't as thick as the type I am used to, like Monopoly or Clue boards, and mine did not lay perfectly flat, it had the slightest bow in it which did not affect gameplay.
The game has you pick one of four princess figures, which is wisely encased in plastic so the play peice won't get ruined. To play the game you go around the outer perimeter of the board and each time you land on a WISH stepping stone, you spin the plastic wishing wheel. If a wish token on the wheel lands on one of the 5 spots designated for your princess, you get to choose one of the wishes. When you get your three wishes, you then move your character into the inner circle to look for your special birthday gift. Those are designated by 4 cardboard shaped presents that has either an apple for Snow WHite, tiara for Sleeping Beauty, slipper for Cinderella or a rose for Belle. When you find which one belongs to your character, you win. Yahoo. I also wish those cardboard presents were hard plastic or such, because if one gets marked or bent, you will forever know which present goes with it. The instructions are not the clearest, but a few re-reads and trying the game a few times, you will get it. The spinning wishing wheel has its flaws, not terminal, but sometimes annoying. When my 4 year old tries to spin it too hard, the top part will sometimes fly off the board, knocking game peices over and such. It's not the end of the world when that happens, but inevitable. You also cannot roll the dice on the board, which is a nice convenience to have, and if you try you will invariably hit the wheel, a game peice or one of the waiting 'presents' to open. Happily the game doesn't go on and on, it can be won in 5-10 minutes. Even though I have mentioned a few dings on the game, I really can't say I hate playing it. It is a nice change from Candyland and it will hold up until she grows out of it. When you buy it with the Buy One Get One Free deal going on, you can't complain too much. If your daughter loves the Princesses, I would buy this, they won't notice the little things that we parents do.

My daughter received this as a gift when she turned five. Do not buy this game unless you are willing to spend an hour putting it together and figuring out how to play it. And while you're doing that, your child(ren) will be whining about it taking so long. I was doing okay until it came time to put the two stickers on the spinning wheel. The directions for this part were incredibly confusing, and the directions for how to play the game were about the same. I also couldn't believe that I had to put stickers on the die (first time for everything!). That said, once we FINALLY figured it all out, my daughter loves it. I think it's the "secret" aspect of the game she enjoys -- pick three things out of the box without peeking and look for your match to your princess w/o showing anyone else the card to win the game. Still, I had to rate this 2 stars for the poor construction of the game.

My husband and I are both college educated and can't figure this game out for the life of us. Not only are the directions confusing but the game itself is cheap and flimsy. The only time we play it (which is very rare) is when we "make up" our own rules. Please don't waste your money.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thought the instructions are as clear as mud. I did finally figure out where the "beam of light" was...but still haven't figured out how you get to the gift. Do you go thru the princess starting point? Is the blue stone in front of it a space, is that how you get to the gift at three stone space? HEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLPPP!!!!! What do the castles on the corners have to do with it, is that the gate? &*$#&^@*^*
Talk about a kids game that will make you feel like an idiot!

I was anxious to get this game for my daughter for Christmas, as she loves all princess things. Unfortunately, the instructions were so confusing (do they even test these games? with real people?), we quickly grew disenchanted with it, and tossed it. Quality is not top notch, and the instructions and actual game concept are poorly thought out.

Spinning wishes review,

The whole game is very poor quality. The spinner is made of cheap plastic and comes apart when spun. You have to apply number stickers to the die. Instructions too confusing for the age group.
Very Disappointed.

My daughter (5 years old) received this game for her birthday. The game looks cute...but the instructions can be complicated and confusing. The spinning wheel is not sturdy, and when you spin it, it comes off the base (Disney should have put a center pin on the wheel to keep the spinner on it's base)....By the time you assemble all of the pieces and place everything on the board, there is hardly any room to roll the dice onto the board! There is also a good chance that one player will only hit the spaces where they lose a turn. My daughter had it happen 5 TIMES IN A ROW (she and I finally got frustrated and put the game away). Please save your money, skip this game, and look for something else.

This is a great game for little girls who love princesses. My 5 yr old got this gift for Christmas. She loves to play it. It is easy to set up and has easy to follow rules. Basically it is rolling a dice and moving the princesses around the board, spinning when they get on a wish space. Yeah the spinner is cheap plastic but these days what isn't. The princess player markers are very sturdy. We even play it as a family with my 2 1/2 year old daughter. We have modified a few of the rules and for example, let the girls select their own wishes. This is the always the first game of choice when it is game time. This is a great gift for a birthday or Holiday. Highly recommend!!!

First off, this game does look absolutely enchanting. The packaging is extraordinary. The game board is quite busy, but pleasing and colorful. The playing pieces do come with hard plastic, which is very helpful. Having said that, the game is NOT difficult, but the directions aren't ultra-clear. The one thing that really tripped me up was the idea that you can't take gift unless the spinner lands in your princess' "beam of light" or some other very similar term. I was like "what beam of light??" This was very unclear. Finally, I discovered that underneath the spinner there are "sprays" of color - one color for each princess - these are the noted "realms of mbeams of light." If you spin and a gift lands in your princess' "realm" or "beam" then you get to take the gift. This literally took about 15 minutes for me to figure out, so I hope this explanation saves someone else some time. It should have been more clear in the directions.
Aside from that, the most annoying thing is definitely the spinner. Most times, when my daughter spins, the thing flies off and goes sailing across the family room. It's just really shoddy and needs a better design. I've coached her now to be "gentle" when spinning and it seems to help. She was never harsh on it, but it doesn't take much to have it fly off. Because of the color and the princesses, this game will certainly appeal to young girls. I'd say best age for this is about 3-5. If your child is 6 or more, I'd go with the Disney Princess Junior Monopoly instead.

Cons:
Game is overly complicated. Directions are not clear. I would describe the rules here, but i still haven't figured them out. I have played the game twice so far with my 4 year old daughter, and it was better for us to make up our own rules along the way versus following the actual game rules. Pros: My daughter is a Princess fanatic, and this is afterall a princess game. The pieces seem to be sturdy, and the game itself is colorful and pleasing to the eye. My daughter doesn't seem to mind that we play the game not according to the original rules - she likes spinning the wheel and collecting the gifts. So.. despite it being the worse game I've ever seen, my daughter does seems to like it, and isn't that what its all about? so its tough for me to give it just one star - hence, the two star rating. Its just too bad; i wish the game maker could have made the game simpler to play. |
