4.0 out of 5 stars great idea for a classic kids game!
I bought this for my 3.5 yr old. She loves it! The game mats are durable, and the dvd is cute. Teaches good listening skills, following directions, and just playing for fun. All I had to do was sit on the couch and hit the remote button as needed, after getting the mats layed out. Works well even if your child is playing alone. I think this game will be a huge hit for...

2.0 out of 5 stars DVD game too repetitive, too few activites for price
The DVD version of Candyland is significantly more expensive than the traditional board game, and it is not worth the money. While my children (5 and 3 1/2) do enjoying playing the game they are frustrated that the games are the same everytime. There are three games to play on the dvd, but they are not random in nature. The DVD version of Candyland is significantly more expensive than the traditional board game, and it is not worth the money. While my children (5 and 3 1/2) do enjoying playing the game they are frustrated that the games are the same everytime. There are three games to play on the dvd, but they are not random in nature. The "gumballs", moves, and character narrative are identical every time you play. After only two days of play my children could tell you what was coming next in each game. I purchased this game because my son has difficulty sitting still for a board game, but loves games requiring physical interaction. I wanted a game that would utilize directions for him to follow and this game does do that, however I could have gotten the same result by playing "simon says" with him myself and saved the $30.

My kids really enjoy playing the Candy Land DVD game. There are 3 different games to play and you can play for fun or play to win on each game. With kids running and bouncing around, I really like the fact that the mats pretty much stay put on the carpet. Unlike other games, the kids are not slipping and sliding or falling down on the mats. I believe this game is rated for ages 4 and up, but I think that most 2 and 3 year old kids could play most of the games if not all of the games. My son is 2 and he can play all of the games (we have to help him a bit of the 'Mister Mint says' game though).

My kids are 7 and 4 years old...they just got this toy for christmas and they absolutley love this game...it's been one of the most popular toys of all the toys they got at christmas...it's super easy for the kids to follow and it's really fun...the best part is there's like four different games they can play so it never gets old there's always something different which they love!

3.0 out of 5 stars OK for younger kids, but still too predictable!, April 14, 2007
This review is from: Candy Land DVD Game (Toy)
Got the game about a year ago for my kids, who were 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 at the time. They did enjoy it at first, but as other reviewers have noted, there are definitly some "technical" issues that could have been improved on. First, the thing with pushing the DVD remote every minute or two...yes, you have to but geez people, does it really kill you to sit in there ane interact with your kids a little?? If you want to let them run around unattended and amuse themselves save the money and just let them run around.

Second, the DVD controls do NOT allow you to skip thru the promos, and the lengthy spells of "lord licorice" talking, which can result in some boredom...this is something that is kind of annoying after you've played a number of times. Also, the games are nearly identical every single time, and you have to be careful or older kids will learn the pattern (such as in Grandma Nutt's game) quite quickly, and beat the littler ones every time, which is also tiresome to have an unhappy 3 year old that his sister ALWAYS wins.

What we do, is get the game out for a week or two and they play it regularly and really enjoy it, and them we put it away on a high shelf where they can't see it for a few weeks, and when we get it back out they don't remember the exact order so much anymore and it's fun again for awhile.

Our bottom line: MUCH better for smaller kids (I can't imagine any kid over 6 being willing to play this thing!) if you can find it on SALE!!! Would be great in the $15 or under range.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, bad execution, July 23, 2008

The idea behind The Candyland DVD is great. However, a moron designed it. Your children cannot do this game alone and will get bored halfway through. A parent or older child has to press the 'enter' key on the remote every 90 seconds or so. So you can't even run to the bathroom, take a phone call, or get dinner started while your kids are playing the game.

There are also lots of annoying segments throughout the game that have nothing to do with the game. For instance, "Lord Licorice" makes an appearance occasionally to bother the host, but my kids just stand there staring at him wondering when they can play again.

If you are looking for an activity your kids can do by themselves or with minimal parental involvement, this is not the game to buy! Or if your kids are used to more high-energy, fast action games, this is not for them!

My 3 year old son LOVES this game and I love all the exercise he gets while playing it. There are commericals in the beginning, but he likes to watch them anyway. He can choose one of the 3 games, set up his mats, and press start. There is only 1 button he needs to push when they tell him to (either play or enter), so I dont even have to be in the same room. Its something he can have fun playing by himself or with his cousins.

I bought this game for my 3yr old daughters as a birthday present (Dec) thinking they could get some physical activity while indoors on these cold winter days w/ a fun game. NOT WORTH IT! As other reviewers have mentioned, you first have to sit through at least 5 minutes of promos that you can't fast forward through. The games move much too slowly and you have to constantly press the remote for them to continue. My daughters and I got bored very quickly. Save yourself some money, make your own colored squares and play Simon Says and other color games with your children.

1.0 out of 5 stars So slow paced - not worth the time OR money, September 3, 2008
= Durability:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars

I agree with the people who say the pace is too slow and the controls are terrible. You can never skip ahead, even if you decide to play a different game within the dvd - you're forced to wait through the entire game cycle. And trust me, kids will often want to bail out on a game before it's finished, because they're just not much fun. The board game version is ten times better.
