Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Clue has been a fiendishly clever board game for almost 60 years, and this DVD edition adds a whole new level of enjoyment to the deductive fun. Experienced Clue-doers will recognize the floor plan layout of the game board, as well as the cards and character pieces. What they might not recognize this time is the crime: The game's central intrigue has been downgraded from murder to a more family-friendly larceny. It's up to players to figure out which of Mr. Boddy's guests is the thief, which item was stolen, as well as the time and location of the theft. The enclosed DVD serves as game master, with animated butler and inspector characters prompting you with questions and/or doling out clues. It may seem like a gimmick at first, but there are several smart ways in which the DVD makes set-up a snap and games both fair and interesting.

Aside from the bells and whistles, this is Clue. The object of the game is to gather clues without giving away too much information to the other players. Once you feel you've adequately sussed out the case, you can test your theory in secrecy through the DVD menu and the special decoder lens. If you're correct, you'll get a satisfying detective show round-up of how all the clues work together to eliminate all of the other possibilities. If you're wrong, you're going to have to show some of your info to the other players. There are ten different mysteries built into the game plus a general game that is more like the traditional Clue board game. It comes with game cards, decoder magnifying glass, DVD disc, game board, four plastic locks, case file envelope, and 10 suspect pawns. --Porter B. Hall

Product Description

Step out of your living room and into the mystery. Scotland Yard needs your help to crack 12 challenging interactive crimes, such as "The Monte Carlo Affair." Find out who, what, where and when the crimes took place. Investigate all your favorite suspects, plus four others, and more crime scenes. Collect "virtual evidence" as you go, and use the DVD to make secret accusations.

Game includes game board, tons of game pieces including character figures, and one DVD. There's even a bonus game for more mystery-solving excitement. For 2 to 8 players.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tricky but fun, December 28, 2006
This review is from: Clue DVD Game (Toy)
Clue DVD is only for people who love Clue. (If you are just a moderate fan, it might be more than you want.) Instead of just figuring out 3 things as in regular Clue, you have to figure out 4. And there are 10 possibilities under each of the 4 categories. Plus some of the clues only become available as the game moves along. (But there are extra clues given by the Inspector and the Butler.) So it is much more involved!

As a previous reviewer says, the instructions are not as clear as they could be. On the basic menu that comes up for each player's turn, it is confusing what you are supposed to do. You can either move to the next room, or use a secret passage. If you just move to an adjacent room, then you don't use your remote on the DVD menu. You only press the remote if you use a secret passage. Then when you get to a room by either of those two means, you also have to make a choice. If you are making a suggestion about who, where, when, or what, then you don't use the remote. But if you summon the butler, look at the inspector's notebook, or want to see an item card, then you use the remote. Tricky? Yes, but it is not too difficult to catch on to.

Once we got used to the game, it took us about an hour to finish a mystery. We have thoroughly enjoyed it. Regular Clue seems tame by comparison.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rockin Clue!, September 30, 2006

This review is from: Clue DVD Game (Toy)
After I saw the advertisement for Clue DVD I immediately went out to buy it. I've always been a fan of Clue and this updated version provides players with some new twists and excellent graphics. While you are playing the game, the Butler and an Inspector often appear to provide you with Clues about the case. Another addition to the game is added locations and having to figure the time of the crime. Any Clue fan will appreciate this version!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the original, February 13, 2007
This review is from: Clue DVD Game (Toy)
More suspects, more rooms, more items that could be stolen, and now you also have to solve the time of day. A much harder game on the surface for sure. But the inspector and the butler are constantly providing extra clues from the TV set, and they occassionally ask everyone to contribute 1 card each to help solve the crime. The extra clues make solving the crime easier, but it still takes a bit longer than the original game to solve. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoyed the original game, as it's similar but more entertaining for the family.
