This hand held, battery already included, Electronic Battleship is fantastic to play- right through the protective plastic covering - which I figure is a great way to save on wear and tear hours. It is a great challenge to the mind game because once you start competing with the computer, you become addicted to figuring out how to place your ships on the grid to trick it. Math calculating and strategy skills are definitely a part of this game. The three different skill levels allow you to begin at a primary level and work your way to learning the most advanced, thus it is appropriate for all ages - which means it is acceptable for the entire family. And being able to place your ships yourself makes the game that many more times interesting and exciting. Or, you can choose for the game to place your ships automatically, which adds even more possible ways to play. Having the three different strategy types of games is new to me - what an eye opener, to give each side more than the regular one hit each. You can decide to play game two, where, if you get a "hit" you win an extra turn, what a way to get one up on the computer! Or, you can choose game three and take multiple turns each time, then your opponent (the computer) takes their full share, ...back and forth. And you can hear the special sound effects loud and clear, which adds fun to the game, especially as you listen to the "sinking ship eulogy." :) As you may be able to tell by my exhaustive yet very sincere enthusiasm, I spent a few hours of non-stop playing as soon as the game arrived, then I had to turn it over to my children to enjoy. This hand held electronic Battleship will definitely be a great vacation travel companion for our family! And its size and durability is perfect to drop into a beach bag and carry with you to enjoy while relaxing in the sun and watching the surf.

When I first got this toy for Christmas I didn't think much of it. But when I played it once it was hard to put it down. It was perfect for the long rides in the car.

I have looked at some other hand held electronic games, and this is one of the best. It's small, durable and, for anyone who used to play the regular game when they were younger, this is a LOT of fun! The computer is quite hard to beat, I should add. It seems to get a lot of "lucky" breaks. All in all a good and inexpensive game!

This Electronic Handheld game is a great game. It is a great part in my game collection. Instead of lugging around the regular game, this one fits right in your pocket! My family owns these electronic games: Yahtzee, Uno, and Battleship. I've played them all, and I have to say that they have addvantages that the regular games don't. Yahtzee: Instead of keeping track of the dice, cup, papers and pencils, it's all in a pocketsized game. Uno: Ever had a problem with all those cards such as shuffling, puting away, or just keeping track of. Well, in this pocketsized game it keeps track of all of that stuff. And Battleship: The regular game can be played electronicly, but there's still all those small pegs. With the electronic game, all of the pegs aren't needed. Just a simple dot on the screen tells you where you have shot. The only problem (which isn't much of a problem at all) with electronic handheld games is the batteries. They will wear out, but a simple replacement will put you back in the game. So when your shopping for a present, or just a fun toy or game, consider electronic handheld games.

This toy is pretty stellar. I mean, you can play battleship anytime you want w/o having to ask someone else to play with you. It is awesome for long trips or just something to do if your bored.

Approach this game as an educational experience, and you will be disappointed. It is a one-player time-consumer, nothing more. However, if you keep that in mind, it can be lots of fun. I have played mine for almost a year, and I have enjoyed trying the different modes of play and the different patterns. I have found that the computer really does have an almost limitless choice for ship locations, which keeps the game fresh and fun!

The computer intelligence is quite poor. For e.g. there have been times when it attempts to locate lets say my battleship (a ship that requires 4 hits) in an area where only a ship that requires 2 or 3 hits can be located. This should not be really. The computer's attempt at locating ships seems to be purely random.

Very fun if you're a battleship fan.. the other two modes and other skill levels is a nice touch. The only complaint I have is that the sound effects rather suck.

This game is fun but, it does get boring on long vacation trips. The durability is good, yet I wouldn't say to drop it every where you go. And educational value, well I really don't see any educational value in this game except where to line up your ships.

This toy was purchased for my 86 year old mom. I was concerned she wouldn't be able to figure it out, but she did fine on Level 1. I bought one for my husband, he likes his.
