My son became obsessed with the guitar after watching daddy play guitar hero. He's only 2 1/2 but he loves this toy and can not put it down. I like the fact that it doesn't have strings which makes it very easy for him to strum and to push on the frets. The band mode is my son's favorite because it plays music and lets him play along. The only thing it doesn't have that my son has asked for is a whammy bar attachment.
It's also a nice touch that the volume on it goes to 11. Speaking of volume I'd like to buy the amp that comes with it but my wife won't let me. My son and I are both very happy with this toy.

My 8 yr old wanted a guitar for Xmas and this seemed to be perfect due to its price. I was right...it's fun to play and teaches the most basic of hand movements for the frets. If you want to learn to play with all the correct finger movements and notes, this is not the toy for you. On this guitar, the notes are in the approximate, not exact, areas. However, if you want to begin learning guitar the easiest possible way, or just to see if you like it enough to spend real money on a real guitar, this is good enough. Sound is fair...the amp to go with it really pumps it up and gives the music some body so I recommend that to go with this. It's a bit small for a teen or adult, but perfect for younger kids. The volume level is bearable and if you like classic rock, you'll find yourself humming along to the built in songs. All in all, a good buy and lots of fun for budding musicians!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I bought the Hasbro Power Guitar for my 12 year old son this year for Christmas, but we have all ended up having a lot of fun with it (and we range in age from 5 to 39!). There are several things you can do with this guitar and we haven't even tried them all yet. Right now we have it on 'learning' mode. It will play the first few opening notes to a song and you have to copy it. If you mess up, it 'boos' and then plays the same notes again only slower. It keeps playing the same notes until you finally get them right, then it cheers for you and moves on to the next part of the song. There is even an instructional DVD that is included and it really helps you with getting started by showing all the various features step-by-step. I am very happy with this purchase!
