5.0 out of 5 stars Great Toy
My son became obsessed with the guitar after watching daddy play guitar hero. He's only 2 1/2 but he loves this toy and can not put it down. I like the fact that it doesn't have strings which makes it very easy for him to strum and to push on the frets. The band mode is my son's favorite because it plays music and lets him play along. The only thing it doesn't have that...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good toy for 20 bucks
Let me first start by saying that I paid $20 for this guitar right before Christmas--with free shipping no less! That being said, the toy is worth 20 bucks. If I would have paid full price I would have been very disappointed.

My kids got this and "I Can Play Guitar" for Christmas. Power Tour is nice because it comes with a guitar strap, you can plug in...

The only thing it doesn't have that my son has asked for is a whammy bar attachment.

It's also a nice touch that the volume on it goes to 11. Speaking of volume I'd like to buy the amp that comes with it but my wife won't let me. My son and I are both very happy with this toy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock on!, January 6, 2008

My 8 yr old wanted a guitar for Xmas and this seemed to be perfect due to its price. I was right...it's fun to play and teaches the most basic of hand movements for the frets. If you want to learn to play with all the correct finger movements and notes, this is not the toy for you. On this guitar, the notes are in the approximate, not exact, areas. However, if you want to begin learning guitar the easiest possible way, or just to see if you like it enough to spend real money on a real guitar, this is good enough. Sound is fair...the amp to go with it really pumps it up and gives the music some body so I recommend that to go with this. It's a bit small for a teen or adult, but perfect for younger kids. The volume level is bearable and if you like classic rock, you'll find yourself humming along to the built in songs. All in all, a good buy and lots of fun for budding musicians!

I bought the Hasbro Power Guitar for my 12 year old son this year for Christmas, but we have all ended up having a lot of fun with it (and we range in age from 5 to 39!). There are several things you can do with this guitar and we haven't even tried them all yet. Right now we have it on 'learning' mode. It will play the first few opening notes to a song and you have to copy it. If you mess up, it 'boos' and then plays the same notes again only slower. It keeps playing the same notes until you finally get them right, then it cheers for you and moves on to the next part of the song. There is even an instructional DVD that is included and it really helps you with getting started by showing all the various features step-by-step. I am very happy with this purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars FUN FUN FUN !!!, December 29, 2007

Purchased for my 11 year old son. He could not put it down once opened.
You can play in different modes. My son would start with with learning mode. The guitar came preloaded with 12 songs that can be choosen by touching the flashing frett button. He would learn the cords and then practice on jam mode and once he had it down he would go to band mode and play it with the backround music. He just loves it!! I also tried playing and found it to be quite fun myself. Great for just playing around or actually learning the songs that are preloaded on the guitar.
I would definately recommend this to any parent who has a "rock star" wish list.

Let me first start by saying that I paid $20 for this guitar right before Christmas--with free shipping no less! That being said, the toy is worth 20 bucks. If I would have paid full price I would have been very disappointed.

My kids got this and "I Can Play Guitar" for Christmas. Power Tour is nice because it comes with a guitar strap, you can plug in your MP3 (nice feature--ICPG doesn't have that), and you don't have to be plugged in to a TV to play it. It also comes with an instructional DVD, but my kids never cared enough to watch it.

I am somewhat disappointed in its ability to play MP3s. The volume just isn't there. I'm sure there is some great reason for this, but it touts "jam along with your favorite songs." When my son started jamming along, the volume of the guitar so greatly overpowered the volume of the MP3 that it was difficult to hear and follow. Also, the specific frets light up for the programmed songs, but for your own MP3s it only plays some cool light show that would be impossible to follow along to.

The strap is a great feature. ICPG does not have that. When purchasing this toy think more along the line of electronic response games, like Bop-It or Simon Says, rather than something that will actually help you learn to play guitar (which, incidentally, I don't think ICPG does either). If you do that and you are able to get a good deal on it, you should be pleased.

4.0 out of 5 stars This thing is awesome, January 8, 2008

I bought this for my little sister this X-mas (she made a not so subtle hint about how cool she thought it was) and I assumed that like most toy instruments it would be fun for about 5 minutes. Once she tore it open on the big day we messed around with it and I really have to say that it was the hit of the year, toy wise. The guitar sounds are rockin', you can strum or play single notes and you can palm mute. Iron Maiden watch out! The only gripes I have are that the guitar can start freaking out if you strum too fast and the "learn a song" function is really frustrating... not easy for a kid (or adult) to follow along with. That said, it was so cool I bought one for myself as well.

This one was on-sale in Amazon, and for the price, it is a terrific little toy. They included some niceties like an automatic shut-off to conserve battery power, which is terrific when you have kids and hate to buy a truckload of batteries. It doesn't feel cheap either, it has a certain heft and solidity to it.

The thing we liked about this is that is has a few layers to it. They can jam with it right out of the box, and have a lot of fun, and then when they get a bit bored of just playing the thing, we found that there is a memory-like instruction game in it that help kids (and adults!) learn to remember fretwork. It's sort of like that old game Simon, only with fun music instead of random sequences.

There are parts to the guitar that we haven't learned how to use yet, like the MP3 function, and some of the more sophisticated tone controls, hammer on and hammer off, etc.. But this toy is a blast, and our friends immediately wanted one for their kids when they tried it.

Easy easy easy, no skills needed. Great for kids who want instant gratification & lets them think they are really playing a guitar & it sounds great. While you can learn some notes, it's a toy really, which is exactly what my son wanted - something to play with. The noise it makes is quite tolerable for parents too - if your goal is not serious lessons, this is a great toy.

This guitar was a gift for my Grandson who is 2 1/2. His Dad plays the guitar and he wanted to be a big boy like his Daddy. The guitar isn't just a plaything because they can both play and learn together.

The guitar was such a hit, I purchased another one for a little girl for Xmas this year and I know she will love it too.

Thanks for a guitar that was affordable, a good learning piece and something that will bring many hours of good fun - and not be in front of the TV!

I got this for my 6 year old son and immediately it was a hit and my 3 year old son wanted it too. Before we had major fights, I got him 1 too. They both play with it and enjoy it. In fact the 3 year old daughter of a friend also got it .
It is a good TOY, does not have strings. you strum on something which looks like strings. Has a volume control, which is great , else you can get fed up of the noise.
It has 3-4 seletions, 1.learn where the display light goes on as the guitar plays a song ( for like 10-15 seconds ) and then you gotta try and remember it and play it ( it also has another button to select rock, pop indie and 1 more music type ). 2. Jam play your owm stuff. 3. bank, where it plays music and you can play on top of it.
Cannot remember the 4th.
But its great, the kids enjoy it.
I do not know why they write its for kids above 10. I think these days a kid over 10 might not like it too much as by that time they want the real thing or the guitar hero stuff.
Overall for 20 bucks or 27 with shipping its great.
They show the msrp over at hasbro as 69, not worth that much but still its a fun guitar.
They have a white one and a black one , the white one sold here for 27 and the blck for 42, don't know why, seems like one color is in demand .
