4.0 out of 5 stars I'm out of the demo, but love this little doggie!
First, I'm 33. I think this might be a kids toy, so take this review with a grain of salt. I just wanted to be able to play my ipod without the headphones and saw this as a cute, entertaining way to jam out in my kitchen. I think its adorable and lots of fun. I'm a little annoyed about the dog having "moods" which you have to satisfy by "feeding it" music. Sigh...

I purchased this as a speaker for my MP3 player to use in my office. Big mistake! His movements are much to loud to allow me to use this as a speaker at work. I would have to turn up the volume much to loud to be practical at work to drown out the mechanical sounds.

I'm a little annoyed about the dog having "moods" which you have to satisfy by "feeding it" music. Sigh. That's probably fun for kids. I'm not sure how durable this is, it feels somewhat breakable to me. I'm very gentle with it, and maybe unnecessarily. The light show is excellent. Somehow the idog recognizes the beat and sync's up the flashing colored lights.
Love the stereo, love the tapping foot and rocking head. A fun way to listen to your tunes instead of a boring old plug-in speaker system.

To be fair, he is absolutely adorable! His paw tapping and tail wagging are really sweet. I LOVE the way his head moves to the beat. He'd be perfect if I needed a speaker at home, however he's just too loud for work.

I bought this for my 9 year old daughter for Christmas this year. She really wanted one and I really knew nothing about it. She is very pleased with it and I find it a cute and fun toy for her. The I dog even has a little personality. It enjoys attention and the colors it displays show how happy or sad it is. She still has a lot to learn about her new "pet" which adds a little educational value as she needs to read the directions and apply it to i-dog. I would recommend this toy for ages 7 and up.

Someone gave this to me for Christmas because I'm a huge dog person and kind of a "gadget girl" too. It's very cute and looks great next to my computer (which is also white; they match!).

I probably would have been better off with the original iDog, however, because I'm not much for all of the movement. It taps it's foot, moves it's head and ears, etc. while dancing to the music. This was cute at first, but the movement noises are a bit loud, so after a while I got a bit annoyed. Also, the iDog has a bit of a personality, i.e. it gets "bored", "sick", "angry" etc. To cure it or make it happy, you have to play music for it. I don't know, I think I might prefer an iDog without any personality.

Thankfully, there is kind of a "silent" mode where you can turn off the movement and the iDog then just responds to music by displaying its lights. It still barks and makes all of those noises, however, when you turn the music off.

I suppose some people just leave their iDogs running, but when I turn off my music I turn off the iDog as well, so it won't bark at me and make annoying noises.

All in all, a cute accessory, and something that kids would probably adore like crazy. The movement sounds can be noisy and can be aggravating, but other than that it's a fun little toy.

My daughter got an Ipod Nano for her birthday four months ago. She has enjoyed it greatly. She then saw I-Dog Amp'd and thought it would be great to be able to play her music through it and see it react. I didn't quite understand the appeal, but then I'm not nine anymore. However, she got it for Christmas and it has been love at first sight. She has been very entertained with the colorful face patterns, tapping foot and head movements. She also responds well to the dogs request for attention and more food (music, it wimpers if it doesn't get enough). Although she has only had it for a short time, I don't get the impression that it will end up on a dusty bookshelf a month or two from now. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys music, dogs and gadgets.

2.0 out of 5 stars I-Dog Static, March 10, 2009

We bought two of these I-Dogs because we thought they were cute, and we wanted a small, portable speaker for our music player. They are cute, but while playing music through the I-Dog, every time it moved, which it is supposed to do, it sent a wave of static through the music it was playing. This pretty much did away with any enjoyment of the music, and since that is one of the main reasons we bought these, we sent them back.

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit noisy, January 2, 2008

I bought this for my 10 year old daughter for Christmas. She seems to enjoy it. It has a little personality of it's own. It cries/wimpers when it's hungry and you have to feed it (music). The lights are awesome and synch nicely with the music. You can even "mix" the music when you run your fingers over the face. I bought her the Barbie MP3 player which she hooks it up to. It will also hook up to her cd player or her computer speakers (if you have a headphone jack on them).

The down fall I found is that you have to turn up the volume with the tail and it seems to be a bit flimsy. Also you have to turn it up all the way to try and drown out the motor noise of the unit and it still seems to be louder than the music and is a bit annoying when it's moving.

Also the clothes that are available for the regular idog don't fit this version very well. The ear pieces, hat and scarf seem to go on without any trouble, however you really have to very carefully stretch and pry the sweater on and the booties for the feet don't fit at all. We also purchased an idog carrying bag for her. The idog amp'd is a bit large for it so the strap that is in the bag to keep it from falling out doesn't go around the idog amp'd. Therefore, You will have to be very careful that your idog amp'd doesn't fall out when carrying it. Also the location of where you plug in the wire to the idog amp'd is in a bad location and really you can't have it plug in to your mp3 player while in the bag and zip it.

This item was a big hit this Christmas! I researched at all the variations of iDog including the Penguin and the basic iDog and found the Amp'd Dog to be the most highly rated overall. I purchased the white because it's the most neutral and allowed my 10 year old daughter to dress it in any colors she preferred. Sure, you could buy a regular dock for your iPod or other mp3 player but this adds so much more interest! It's priced in the $30 range and performs very well! I'd recommend this to anyone who's looking for an MP3 speaker that's high on the cute scale!

If you're looking for big sound or great sound, buy a stereo. These work very well for what they're intended. All three of my kids have these and use them often. No problems with breaking or malfunctioning and the batteries seem to last quite long. The i-dog is a nice replacement for ear buds so the kids aren't plugged in and tuning out while they're at home. They use them while in bed at night, while reading, when friends are over, and even outside while playing. A great buy!
