Completely different transformation than original toy,
By
This review is from: Transformers Deluxe Classic Grimlock (Toy)
This toy is very much more articulated than the original toy, in legs, neck, tail, in short just about everything. This also meant that the transformation mode also was modified to accompany the new features.
In my own opinion, it's a very solid toy, but not quite the type to give to a child under 7 yrs. Too complicated. Otherwise, it's great, sturdy, and after a bit of practice, transforms nicely. Looks great next to Prime (Voyager) and Ultra Magnus (Voyager).

With my Transformers nostalgia running high due to the recent movie, I picked this up on a whim, along with Deluxe Classic Ramjet. Though it took me a while to warm up to this figure, I've been quite happy with it overall.
Pros: Both the dinosaur and robot modes look very good, and the dinosaur mode has quite a bit of flexibility. The figure is a bit of a departure from the traditional look of Grimlock, but it retains the essential look of the character. I actually prefer the dinosaur form on this figure than the one on the original figure, and I like the way the two weapons lock into the back of the figure in robot mode. Cons: The transformation is a bit complicated, since you have to swivel the dinosaur's hips and legs around to form the robot's arms. It took me a couple of tries to get everything right, and I still have to look at the manual to make sure I'm getting everything right. I am also not terribly fond of the feet in robot mode. They are someone thin, and though the figure seems to balance well, it is not as stable as some other figures in this line. Overall, I am happy with my purchase. The transformation is a little more complicated than some of the other figures in this line, but the figure gets high marks overall, especially for its great dinosaur mode.

I own both the first released and this modern version of Grimlock.
This second version is much better articulated than the first one. The T-rex mode is superior to the prevoious one, especially by its posture and articulated tail. I like the fact that no item or weapon stays out both in robot and T-rex versions. Overall he is quite sturdy and true to the spirit of the original version with a plus.

I was born in 1984, which means i'm as old as Optimus Prime, Megatron, The Dinobots, etc. Generation 1 transformers was a great series, so I grew up collecting transformers from every generation, and watching everything transformers. The cival war between heroic Autobots, and evil Decepticons was my "Star Wars". Now this "classics" figure is a great reboot of the Grimlock my generation knew and loved. better articulation than the G1 version, including an articulated tail. With or without his blaster on his t-rex back, he still looks like a zoid, the Berserk Fury resembles his beast mode best. plus the t-rex head resembles that of Mechagodzilla, and he has the G1 rub sign on him, his t-rex arms are on a ball joint, leg articulation is much like a real t-rex, his mouth opens, plus he can look up and down. his paint scheme is very g1-esque, due to his complex transformation, i recommend him for adult collectors only, a 5 yr old might break him. in robot mode, the front half of the t-rex becomes his robot legs, however, like in g1, his t-rex legs become his robot arms, his blaster has a firing missile which shoots far, and a blade on the barrel, so you can have him do to a Decepticon, what Revenge of the Fallen Megatron did to Optimus in the forest battle, and his t-rex tail becomes a whip, much like beast wars transmetal Megatron's t-rex tail, with a little creativity, the gem on his robot chest can serve as a spark crystal, and his tail can have that charge cannon feature as transmetal megatron's. and there's great light piping in both modes and his weapons can be stored in both modes as well.

This is a much more pose-able figure than the original. It transforms differently and has a bit of a different appearance but it's still cool. I admit to being a huge G1 Transformers fan and I still have my original collection. Because of this, I like to supplement with some of the re-makes and I was thrilled to add this one to my collection. If you're a fan of G1, or you have a kid who is a transformers fan, this is a great addition to your collection.

I was a litte concerned with Grimlock's legs when i first opened this toy, but he's grown to be one of my favorites. His transformation is easy, after 2 or 3 times. He's well balanced and has no problems standing. Excellent for kids and collectors.

Awesome transformer. I like the dinosaur mode better than the robot mode. The gun/sword is killer. The tail does not hold very well on the dinosaur mode. it keeps popping off. But the tail is also a weapon that grimlock can hold on his hand on robot mode. I would recommend it, although the price is a lot more than what I paid for.
