While this looks good (from the top down) as a jet, and also looks good as a robot, the design is incredibly lazy. The robot does not change into the jet. Instead, the jet is on the back of the robot and the robot simply retracts arms, legs, and heads while the nose of the jet comes down. The robot is not hidden in alternate mode at all.
On the plus side, an easy one for the younger children. Mine is durable and they should be able to easily handle the transformation themselves.

If you have a kid that is five or under, this "ultra" class of transformers is perfect. Thus far, it is the only type of transformer we have tried that says "5+" on the box, and actually means it. For example, my 5 year old got a giant Jetfire transformer for his birthday that also says "5+" on the box, and it took ME twenty minutes to transform it the first time. I don't know what standards they use to make the age ratings, but they are very, very loose. With this Silverbolt, even my 3 year old can almost transform it. On top of that, it makes jet noises and when you complete the transformation by popping the head up it makes a transformation sound like the old cartoon. I wish I could trade in all the frustrating, fragile transformers we have purchased recently for these larger, more durable and more fun models.

Here is a unique opportunity to say to those people that asked for more G1 style transformers, WHY!?!?! What people seem to forget is that G1 transformation engineering was often sub-par at best. There really is no better example of a complete failure to disguise oneself as Ultra class Silverbolt. Honestly if that is an accurate representation of a jet then the laws of gravity and Bernoulli's basic principles of lift are right out the window. I know transformers from G1 often flaunted the ability to deny physical constants but come on guys. IT'S A ROBOT WITH A FOLDED-IN-HALF JET ON ITS BACK!!!!! However when you transform it.... IT'S A JET CARRYING A ROBOT UNDERNEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is what you get when you want an old school design. It is engineered WORSE than the G1 design.
Here Hasbro goes making up some awesome classics G1 characters in modern designs and then my favorite classics line transformers are joined by this junk. I am going to call Tonka and ask if they made this before Hasbro bought the Gobots.
