While this looks good (from the top down) as a jet, and also looks good as a robot, the design is incredibly lazy. The robot does not change into the jet. Instead, the jet is on the back of the robot and the robot simply retracts arms, legs, and heads while the nose of the jet comes down. The robot is not hidden in alternate mode at all.
On the plus side, an easy one for the younger children. Mine is durable and they should be able to easily handle the transformation themselves.

If you have a kid that is five or under, this "ultra" class of transformers is perfect. Thus far, it is the only type of transformer we have tried that says "5+" on the box, and actually means it. For example, my 5 year old got a giant Jetfire transformer for his birthday that also says "5+" on the box, and it took ME twenty minutes to transform it the first time. I don't know what standards they use to make the age ratings, but they are very, very loose. With this Silverbolt, even my 3 year old can almost transform it. On top of that, it makes jet noises and when you complete the transformation by popping the head up it makes a transformation sound like the old cartoon. I wish I could trade in all the frustrating, fragile transformers we have purchased recently for these larger, more durable and more fun models.

Here is a unique opportunity to say to those people that asked for more G1 style transformers, WHY!?!?! What people seem to forget is that G1 transformation engineering was often sub-par at best. There really is no better example of a complete failure to disguise oneself as Ultra class Silverbolt. Honestly if that is an accurate representation of a jet then the laws of gravity and Bernoulli's basic principles of lift are right out the window. I know transformers from G1 often flaunted the ability to deny physical constants but come on guys. IT'S A ROBOT WITH A FOLDED-IN-HALF JET ON ITS BACK!!!!! However when you transform it.... IT'S A JET CARRYING A ROBOT UNDERNEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is what you get when you want an old school design. It is engineered WORSE than the G1 design.
Here Hasbro goes making up some awesome classics G1 characters in modern designs and then my favorite classics line transformers are joined by this junk. I am going to call Tonka and ask if they made this before Hasbro bought the Gobots.

Silverbolt is really cool to me, but, some people do not. It really depends on what bothers you and what doesn't. Seeing as this is the case, I will list the pros and cons.
Pros: -a lot like the pix of G1 Silverbolt -nice color scheme -conversion sounds, flyover sounds, engine sounds and machine-gun sounds -easy conversion -has landing gear Cons: -color scheme in robot mode is very differant from his airplane mode color scheme -extra, extra, extra kibble in both modes -his red missle for his rifle is hard to keep track of -kind of sloppy robot mode If it was possible, I would give him 4.62 stars, but since I couldn't, I rounded up. Overall a pretty good toy. Very durable, so it could be given to a two or three-year-old if you didn't let them have the rifle. Good toy to add to your collection.

THE TOY IS A GREAT TRIBUTE TO SILVERBOLT G1 LEADER OF THE AERIAL BOTS. IS NICE FOR DISPLAY. THE THING IS THAT IS VERY SIMPLE TO TRANSFORM, AND IS ALMOST A ROBOT ATTATCH TO A JET PLANE. BUT ATHER THEN THAT IS GREAT FIGURE, GOOD FOR COLLECTION. ITS SIMPLY A CLASSIC FROM TRANSFORMERS

i got this figure last month and i have to say for a g1 remake this is very good the paint on the figure resembles his G1 self
he is very easy to transform,he is one of the ultra class that is bigger than his original form because of that i kinda doubt if there gonna make the other aerialbots unless they make the other aerialbots in voyager class this is a must own for any G1 fan who loved silverbolt.

While it's nice that this figure pays a good homage to it's Generation One counterpart it's just too dull in it's transformation. The lights and sounds work well and are in keeping the modes and he looks very good in both forms.
Pros - Excellent G1 homage - Looks great in both modes - Good imposing size Cons - Too easy to transform - Gimmicky use of 'Auto-morph' technology - No way of a good size Superion happening *sigh* Overall good as a display piece but disappointing as a toy.

At first,I wasn't impressed with Silverbolt. However, once I got him in my hands I realized how good of a toy he is. He has a simple transformation, similar to his G1 counterpart, which is nice. He's well put together in both modes, and has the very best use of sound and lights ever on Transformers toy!

To the review above me calling this a Lazy design because the jet is on the back of the robot but Silverbolt has always been like that. Now to me real review.
Pros 1: Honors the original silverbolt in every way except It has cool new fighter jet. 2: Very durable toy. 3: Very, Very easy to transform. Cons 1: can't merge to form superion. 2: The batteries are a little hard to get to replace, Thier slightly behind the shoulders of the robot stored in the engines. |
