Tonka trucks are nothing if not tough: this one has a body of yellow steel, and even the black plastic caterpillar tracks, backhoe, and shovel are solidly made. Large, simple levers operate both the backhoe and the front shovel, and both can be locked in an up position for driving from site to site. There's a large seat in which to pose a driver (not included). An excellent toy for re-landscaping the sandbox, or even Mom's favorite flower bed. Measures 18 inches long by 6 inches wide by 8 inches high. --Richard Farr

We are buying this toy because we have had our neighbor's toy at our house for the past 5 weeks while searching desperately for another. To say that my son loves his backhoe would not be enough. He needs to lie it on the ground by his crib before sleeping, he brings it in the backpack with him on walks (not comfy for me!), he brings it shopping with us, and, of course, uses it non-stop in the sandbox. Over the past 5 weeks with this VERY durable toy, he has learned to master the levers and increase his fine-motor skills. I recommed this toy to anyone with a child over 15 months.

My son Carter is having a hard time working the levers that move the trencher and especially the backhoe but will grow into it. It's a little frustrating now. This is a well made product and very sturdy and durable, and for all the maltreatment it's received, it has not rusted or cracked in any metal or plastic parts.

Somehow we have avoided letting our little guy take this to the shops or to the playpark - but that's about the only time day or night he can bear to be parted from it. A real hit for any little truck enthusiast.
