The Bulldozer is a big brute of a machine in the best Tonka tradition: 12 inches long, 8 inches high at the cab cage, and armed with a 3.5-inch-high, 7.5-inch-wide blade, this cat-tracked bulldozer is built for serious work. Good thing it's too big to fit on a dinner plate, or there would be earthworks made out of unwanted food all over the place. Instead, havoc will probably be confined to the carpet, the sandbox, or some hapless flowerbed. The main body is metal; the detailing and cat-tracks are plastic. The dozer blade can be lowered to grade level or locked half an inch up to get it out of the way. You could push around a pound or two of material with this thing. --Richard Farr

I thought this would be a great toy for our 3 year old grandson. As I
watched him trying to play with it, I was wishing I had gotten something else. If you want a push type toy, this isn't one for that. He's still into running and pushing bigger vehicles. This one isn't tall enough.
Then he tried moving the blade up and down and that proved to be rather
hard and doesn't move much when it does move. Later we took it to the
park so he could play in the sand with it. The rubber tracks kept
coming off. He finally got so frustrated with that, he went to play with
something else. I kept thinking about how much I had paid for this toy
that had turned into such a disappointing experience for him and myself.
If I had know about these things before I purchased it, I would have gone with something else.

My 4 year old is in his "heavy equipment" phase, and so I went ahead and bought the Tonka bulldozer for his birthday. I thought it was a tad expensive, but put out the money because I knew he'd love it, and assumed Tonka put out a quality product. Well its true that my son loves playing with it, but the rubber tread on the dozer wheels keeps slipping off and has to be constantly put on. I don't think it is worth the money its priced at, and would shop around to find a similar product for a cheaper price.

Be careful when looking for the steel version of this toy. I was aiming at getting the the bulldozer which has a steel blade, 2" wide tracks, and is at least 14" long. This one looks enough like the one I had as a kid. It turned out to be about half the size it should have been, the blade is plastic and the tracks are OK and may be durable but I can stretch them enough with one finger to take them off the track. They're only an inch wide.

Mmmmmm! not like they used to...
This product is not bad but the old ones (pressed steel) were much better. They don't make them the way they used to.

Gift
This was given as a gift to my grandson. My understanding is that he has really enjoyed playing with it and it seems pretty stout as he is rough on toys.

Its a metal tonka so it hold ups......well except for the rubber tracks but those are the first a kids loses

Tonka Review
Product is a vintage high-quality Tonka design. It is missing much of the cheap plastic and push-button sound effects some common with toys today. It allows use of the inagination.
