Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Magic Jinn is a witty new friend who loves to try to read your mind! In the game Magic Jinn Animals, Magic Jinn will challenge you to think of an animal. He will then try to guess what you're thinking of by asking you questions. If Magic Jinn guesses your animal, he wins, but if you stump him… you win. The harder your choice is, the more fun Magic Jinn has, so see if you can stump him.

Try To Stump Magic Jinn By Thinking Of An Animal He Can
Press his nose to wake him up, and he'll ask you to think of an animal. When you're ready, he'll begin to ask you questions about your secret animal to try to guess what you're thinking. Magic Jinn will interact with you in a fun, sarcastic tone. You can never tell what Magic Jinn will say next, and he might make silly guesses just to try to fool you.
Try To Stump Magic Jinn
Questions he might ask about your animal are, "Does it have two legs?" or "Can you keep it as a pet?" Answer by saying yes, no, I don't know, it depends, OK, say it again, or go back. Magic Jinn is good at guessing what you're thinking of, but he'll admit defeat if you stump him.
Magic Jinn Will Try To Read Your Mind

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
When I read about the Magic Jinn game, I thought it sounded like a great deal of fun--perhaps like a junior version of twenty questions. While I didn't expect it to be a sophisticated toy, it is really quite inexpensive looking and tiny (the difference between a Christmas gift and a stocking stuffer, this comes across as more of a novelty stocking stuffer). With the assistance of three triple A batteries, your tiny blue cat is ready to challenge you. Think of any animal, no matter how obscure, and the Magic Jinn will ask endless questions until it narrows down your guess. An adult with a wicked streak might be able to outsmart the Jinn, but most small children will choose appropriate animals that the Jinn can guess. So far, sounds good.

I know that some might object to the cat's rather sassy attitude. I, however, didn't mind that it poked fun at our intellectual prowess. If your kids can't withstand the playful taunts of this plastic cat, I worry about their survival in the big bad world.

My problem with the Magic Jinn is much more fundamental. It simply isn't much fun. The kids thought it was amusing once. Once you've done it, though, it becomes unbearably repetitive. It asks the same questions, it utters the same phrases, oftentimes it doesn't hear your responses. It's a decent idea, it just lacks replay value. After two turns, Magic Jinn was left behind and there has been no interest in reviving him. Might make an interesting diversion at a party (a very quiet party) where the kids only do it for a day, but not something that will be treasured or thought of very often otherwise. KGHarris, 10/13.

As a bzzagent I was given the opportunity to review the magic jinn and I am proud to say that not only did the kids love it but so did I!! We are not only having fun playing with this but are also learning about all types of animals. Some we have never even heard of. All in all this toy is fun and a great learning experience for all! I highly recommend this toy for kids age 6 and up!

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
The Magic Jinn is a toy that tries to guess the animal you're thinking of. The voice recognition is surprisingly very good. The Magic Jinn obviously has a very good databank of animals programmed, because he'll guess completely off the wall things. When I have thought of various animals I thought he could never get, such as a wombat, he's still able to get them.

His sense of humor is sarcastic, spoken in a slow British accent. For example, he'll guess that you're thinking of a big bad wolf, or talk about how smart he is. This may be bothersome to some users, but it comes across as him being competitive and having a bit of a superior attitude. He also sometimes throws in kindnesses, such as calling you his friend. Overall, it's similar to how someone might rib you if playing Twenty Questions.

However, there are some little boo-boos and other issues with the Magic Jinn. For example, he'll repeat questions you've already replied to. There are also possible errors in the programming; though I've only found one so far. It has to do with guinea pigs. You must answer that guinea pigs do NOT come from South America in order for him to guess them. If you say they do come from South America, his response is always to guess that you're thinking of a chinchilla. Guinea pigs are from Peru (South America), so this is an error in his programming. That's one thing I wish could be changed. There's no user programming in this, as there are often with similar games. The Magic Jinn can't learn or be corrected. His database is set in stone, and it could be teaching inaccuracies about animals.

Additionally, some cliches get old. The "That's what *I* thought" comment is the one we've tired of.

Another issue--though not a biggie--is that the orange paint on him can chip off.

This toy is pretty simple, you think of an animal and start the "Magic Jinn" who asks you questions to try to guess your animal. It takes 3 AAA batteries and we found the voice easy to understand. It also is pretty good at recognizing what you say.
It was very fast at guessing a cat, somewhat slow at a dolphin, super long for a penguin and couldn't guess a human (maybe that's not an animal in its database). It did guess an animal that I'd never heard of so it does have a varied and wide collection of animals.
I thought the questions it asked were good, since they are all yes or no but you can also say "it depends" or "I don't know". Some of the questions were about where it lives, its color, its size, if it swims, if it has a beak. It never repeated a question but it did sometimes guess wrong. It does repeat itself sometimes to your responses by saying things like "Interesting" and "I thought so." but my son didn't find it irritating. I am not sure how much I could repeatedly play with the toy, but my 9 year old liked it a lot. I'd definitely recommend it.

I received this product to test for free. We were very excited when we received it and I barely got batteries in it before my 7 year-old and 4 year-old ran off to play with it. My oldest was sure he could "stump" Magic Jinn with all the weird animals he could think of. We all loved Magic Jinn's accent and personality. However, due to more frequent than not comprehension issues, my kids quickly lost interest with this toy. Magic Jinn registered many responses incorrectly or would get hung up, saying "I'm sorry. I didn't understand you. Can you say it again?" over and over again until we had to shut it off. The kids would have to start all over. Even saying "Go back" wouldn't reset the Jinn most of the time. I tested the toy myself, making sure to clearly enunciate my answers and speaking at a reasonable volume and the Jinn still registered some of my answers incorrectly. I believe this toy has a lot of potential and it definitely has tons of personality, but the "communication" issues it has are a huge frustration for kids and causes it to lose its appeal very quickly.
