The Monopolies are more basic than other version of same-titled games,

I played Monopoly Hear and Now and was expecting the same game. This one is much more basic in some of the graphics and also when bidding sums, you actually have to click on an arrow for each dollar! The other version of the same game allows you to click on dollar bills to quickly get to the sum you want.
The computer is much smarter than in the other version and more human-like, which is more enjoyable to have as an opponent. It really should be disclosed that these Monopolies are different. Scrabble seems great. Haven't played Risk.

This collection of four Hasbro board games works great on on my desktop with Windows Vista. The games installed right into my game folder without my having to do anything other than insert the CD, they worked perfectly the first time (and every time since), and they're a good value for the price. I'm very pleased.

I have old versions of Monopoly and Risk (originally for Windows 98) and I've kept them working up through XP, but it was time to upgrade. My review is a little mixed because there is A LOT missing from this version of Risk that was in my older version. There were two different ways to play the game and a lot options for different play within each game, whereas this has just one very basic version. It is fine, and it is the version closes to the board game, but I really liked some of the alternative versions better. So I'm disappointed in Risk and not playing it much.
The two versions of Monopoly, on the the other hand, are great. I really enjoy them and they have even more features than my old computer version. Plus, I like the updated Here and Now Monopoly version even better than the regular because it has new properties and more realistic prices. (Monopoly was due for an update...can't buy property for a couple thousand dollars anymore!) While I mark it down for the fact that this version of Risk is a disappointment, I give it four stars because I really enjoy the Monopoly, and because the prices is very affordable for four classic games. (I'm not a Scrabble player so I can't really compare it to other versions.)

I purchased this product because of the value. I had previously purchased Scrabble by itself for $3 more than I paid for this. My little sister loves Scrabble, so I gave her that and I won out in the end because I made her happy-----I got more than just Scrabble, and I use it ALL the time! What did I ever do before I got on Amazon?

If you are looking for something different (and maybe a little nostalgic) to while away the hours, this gives you 3 good games to do it with for a great price.
Monopoly - Both Monopolys are well done, including trading. The AI could be smarter, but they are good enough to have fun with. Their biggest weakness is not trading with each other when there is no other way for them to win. No human can endure the game for very long without a monopoly when someone else has one. They also make lopsided trades (like give a monopoly without getting one in return) which can skew the game in an unrealistic way. If you didn't like Monopoly because it took so long to play, it goes much faster with a computer, and you don't have the tedium of counting out all the paper money. Scrabble - The scrabble is perfect, and you'll learn a lot of words you didn't know, like the English names of foreign plants, animals, currencies, etc. I always thought words like el (meaning the letter L) were cheating, but I guess not! Scrabble is enough to give it 5 stars for educational value. Risk - I had never played Risk before, so I can't comment on the skill of the AI, but I'm having fun learning the game. It seems to offer enough intrigue for a novice at any rate. All in all, a great set of games.

Installs easy, looks great if your sitting in front of your non-widescreen monitor. Gameplay is good, the sound is a bit repetative. The graphics look nice and the custom features for the rules make the game just like how we play the board game. Plus if your buying it on Amazon then you are definately saving some cash.
Ok, now on to the real reason I gave this only 2 stars. I read all the info I could before buying this game. I had intended for this game to be played on my Home Theater PC. The intent was for the family to be able to play the game in the living room where we can relax and enjoy ourselves, with the convenience of the widescreen TV and access to the kitchen for snacks...we all know how long monopoly can take. The game only plays in the now basically non-standard 4x3 format not the widescreen 16x9 format. You cannot maximize the screen, there is a check block in the settings for this but it does not function with widescreens. This being said, the resolution is so small you have to strain your eyes or sometimes actually walk to the TV to see what is displayed. There is a mouseover feature that allows properties to expand a bit, but half the people in the room still had to move closer or stand in front of the TV to read the game. If your playing this in a office desk setting on a regular monitor, or you don't mind sitting 3-4 feet from the TV, then this is the game for you. If you intend to play this with the family in front of the TV buy something else.

Love this Hasbro Game Collection. No problems installing or playing. Absolutely addictive...and really great for rainy days after I have tidied up my house and finished the wash. I get a real jolt out of kicking the 'computer's' a.

Hasbro Classic Game Collection Review THE TRUTH,

Hi my name is Ashton and I'm 15 years old this game my family recived as a Cristmas gift it instaled quick and easy onto are windows XP computer and instaled just fine on are windows Vista computer. Ok I am going to give each game there own short riview.
First I will review RISK, Ok first I will list all the problems with this game, one thing that really bugs me is that I can't play this game with just two people sometimes I just want to play this game with my Dad or just a friend but you can't do that you eather have to get a third player to join with you or have to play with the stupid computers, and thats the next problem with this game if you have no one to play with then you can do up to six people(five of them computers one of them your self)or you can do a minimum of three the computers are so stupid that you can win the game in like six turns when you play with just two computers they will just ignore you and kill each other and you know that there not very smart when my 7 year old little brother can win easly agenst the computers, now you can choose what level they play as but from 1 star to 5 they are really easy to beat. next problem with this game there is no customizing the game and it does not even play by the real rules when you turn in a set of cards it does not give you the two extra guys on the spaces that are on the cards if you own them. now besides all that this game is still really easy to play and goes a lot faster then the board game but next time they make another one they need to fix this. Ok next review monopoly this game is perfect except for one thing the computers are hard to make fair trades with, but other then that the game is perfect I can play with 2-4 players human or computer I can make my own rules with it and is over all a great game and its way faster then playing the actual board game, then there is the monopoly here and now game its the same just there is new pices prices and properties we played this once but we could not get used to the new money values so we just play the regular one. and the computers have 3 difficulties and they are actualy really good on hard. ok then there is scrabble I have not played it yet so I can't tell you any thing specific but my Dad has played it and he loves it the computer has 3 difficulties and you can make them really hard or easy and my Dad enjoyed this game a lot. so in the end I really recemened this game its a great deal on amazon(less then $10)and has a great selection of games there are a few problems but its really fun by your self or with friends and family so get it wall you can for this great price and have fun!

The game works well, even on my Compaq lap-top. What is lousy, is after playing five times the 'chances' of me landing on Go to Jail shows me that there's a fault with the artificial intelligence in the programme. Almost every second time round the board I landed in Jail. The Computer owned the three orange properties and put houses on them and every time I went around the board I landed on them
This is either really bad luck, or poor programming. But it seemed that my version was impossible to win. |
