This is not a voice changer, this is something that kind of adds on to your voice, droning in the background. I put it on, and of course, like all the "1"s said, the head peace busted right off (that's what I get for being born with a big head) --- but it's not as bad as they say, you can put it back on if you know how to work it right... But lets get real, this thing does not make you sound like Darth unless you have your ear right up to the little speaker that will sit on your chest. It's really kind of weird that they put the speaker at the base of the control panel... if you were really short, and the person wearing it were really tall, maybe then it would make sense... Anyway, long story short, but the TRANSFORMERS voice changing helmet... the Darth Vader one is kind of lame.

This is a great item for any Star Wars/Darth Vader fan. Kids and adults can own and love this toy. It has 2 adjustable straps to provide a good fit for just about any head. The straps adjust for the distance around the head and for the vertical length of your head. This is great for lining up your eyes right where they are supposed to be and so that the weight of the mask isn't resting on your nose at all. The mask can come apart from the helmet easily so you can find that perfect fit without too much getting in the way. There is all kinds of air holes for proper ventilation to the face. So, you don't have to worry about your child wearing it for a long time and not getting the proper amount of air. It's made of a durable, hard plastic and has a nice, glossy finish to it. It's not a protective-type helmet, but it can take a fair amount of abuse. The only thing that bothers me is the voice changer function. The movie phrases and "movie breathing" sounds come through nicely, but the voice changer tends to cut in and out. I don't expect it to last as long as the rest of the helmet. I don't know if I just got a bad one or what. You almost have to speak very loudly for the voice changer to work effectively. And, when your ears are inside the helmet with your mouth, you're speaking loudly right into your own ears. One nice feature that the voice changer gives is that when you breathe, the microphone picks that up and you kind of sound like old Darth Vader when he's breathing. They don't tell you that on the box!! If the voice changer had worked a little better for me, this toy would have gotten 5 stars. But considering all the other nice features that this toy has, it is definately worth purchasing. If anything, it's still a COOL mask of a very COOL character.

I am a huge Star Wars fan and recently purchased this helmet and mask from Amazon.com. This toy comprises of three main parts: The mask, the helmet and the chest piece, which serves as the electronics panel for the sounds.
1.The MASK -The mask is made extremely well, it is all an even black except for the tusks and nose which is painted with a silver metallic ink, made to look like silvery metal. This may scratch off easily at the tips, but I imagine it can be easily touched up with a permanent silver pen as well. -It is very well ventilated at the mouth area, the chin area and even in the cheek area (hidden holes). -The lenses are made from dark thin curved plastic which easily fogs up. Visibility is sometimes slightly reduced as a result but you would expect this from any costume mask. -There are three main strapping devices to hold the mask in place, all are extremely sturdy. It was made presumably for young adults and children but unless you have an immensely HUGE head it should fit, because of the adjustable straps. -The chest piece and the mask is permanently connected via two thick fabric straps. Inside the mouth area is where the plastic insulated microphone sits, it is connected to a hidden cable which extends through one of the thick fabric straps down to the electronic chest piece. -The mask is an excellent representation of the movie character. 2.The HELMET -This is the second part of the costume. Like the entire toy, the helmet is made from an extremely durable plastic. It slides on to click onto the mask, and where it sits on your head may depend on the size of your head. The simple fastening tab is located near the bridge of the nose and forehead. It's not the strongest way to hold the mask and helmet in place but it gets the job done. -The shape of the helmet is very good, but it is maybe about 15% SMALLER than the movie version, presumably to save the manufacturer a lot of cost. As a result, if you are a discerning collector, you may not get it 100% accurate, but it still is a lot of fun. 3. The ELECTRONIC PANEL/CHEST PIECE -The panel serves as the speaker and button section. The panel comprises of three buttons: 1. Breathing sound. You get the signature Darth Vader breathing sound by pressing this button. It 'breathes' 4 times, then you have to press it again. 2. Assorted Movie Phrases. Press this button once and Vader's electronic voice says one of these phrases: "Your powers are weak" "Don't make me destroy you" "You DON'T KNOW the POWER of the Dark Side" "The Force is with you" The phrases come one at a time in that exact order. 3. The Voice Changer Button. Press this button to activate the microphone. At the bottom of the panel is a slider button, marked 0,1,2 and 3. Make sure it slides to either 1,2 or 3 to activate your voice changer. Then, you'll need to speak loudly, with as best a James Earl Jones voice as you can, accent and phrases and all. You will obviously hear your own voice in the mask, but the panel speaker will create the accompanying Vader voice, which is not perfect but hey it's pretty good. Selecting buttons 1,2 or 3 will give you different tones of Darth Vader's voice, so pick your favourite. Don't expect miracles, just a lot of fun. Overall, I have to say this is a great toy for Star Wars fans of all ages, it's not an exact replica because of the size of the helmet but it's very close, it's durable, it's fun.

I am a long time fan. I remember waiting on long lines at the movie theater as a teenager to see the first movie (yes episode IV!) at least a dozen times. And Darth for me, like many others, was THE icon of the sci-fi generation. We would run around the yard with sticks and "pretend" to be Darth. How embarassing.
So, naturally, when a friend of mine whipped the box out and showed me the Voice Changer I instantly had to have one. I must admit I was skeptical. Does this thing really work? Of course, he couldn't show me the VC feature because it was a present for his nephew. Well, after weeks of unbearably waiting out the holiday season rush, I finally got mine! Hahaaaa! The fit at first was too small, but after adjusting the straps, it fit perfect. And I have a big brick like chin. So, yeah, it fits adults. As for the VC the truth is it works well if you try to talk like James Earl Jones. No problem for those of us who practiced for years as kids! Yeah, people can hear your own voice, but it adds a nice reverberating touch with the mechanical sounding voice over. So, yeah, I am pretty satisfied, particularly given the price. It's a must have. Again I ask... WHY COULDN'T WE HAVE THESE THINGS WHEN WE WERE KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Marc, Germany

My Cousin Recently Bouoght This Toy And It Is Perfect For Any Star Wars Freak. When I Put The Voice Changer Funtion On It Was Choppy. But Hasbro.com has The Best Quick tips to help achieve the best performance with the DARTH VADER VOICE CHANGER:
This toy is packaged in a "Try Me" mode, which has de-activated the Voice Changer feature. To re-activate the Voice Changer feature, slide the switch to one of the 3 settings before first playing with the toy. See instruction sheet for details. The microphone is adjustable. Bend it closer to the wearer's mouth for optimal voice clarity. Adjust the straps for best fit. See instruction sheet for complete details. If the voices and sounds are slow or unclear, check the batteries to make sure they are inserted correctly and are fresh. IT Will Definitly Be On My Christmas List

I just bought this item today at my local toys r us store. It is alot higher quality than Vader masks being sold at costume shops for upwards of 50 dollars! It is very sturdy plastic and easily adjustable for all sizes. Furthermore, its electronic! I think that the movie phrases and breathing features are nice touches in addition to the great voice changer that it is. If you are contemplating on buying this toy, don't hesitate. It would make a great addition to any star wars collection or costume.

With the release of Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith; Toy Shop owners have been busy with their own kind of revenge, hitting us with numerous Star Wars gizmos but this Darth Vader Voice Changer helmet definitely stands out. Wear it and you'll instantly sound like the dark one, with voice conversion, breathing mode and five Darth Vader quotes to draw from. The breathing thing is the coolest, not too keen on the quotes bit nor the voice conversion mechanism. A piece of advice; do not order pizza with this helmet on, you won't get on the pizza places' good side, besides I can't imagine Darth Vader saying "a large double pepperoni with everything, extra jalapeno, extra cheese" it just doesn't quite sound the same. The Helmet is adjustable for all head sizes, that's good for me, I am a single 30-something with a big head, so it is good amusement not only for closet moments, show it to the guys when they come over & its an instant hit albeit for the first half an hour or so, then it ends up with everything else lying around the house. Still its worth it; even if its for a laugh. May the Force be with you!

This toy is very amazing. This a great toy for any kid even if that kid doesn't like star wars (Why would anyone not like star wars). This is cool. It has 3 modes. Vader breathing, movie phrases, and the voice changer. The helmet comes so you can adjust the size. It will fit anyone. This is a cool star wars toy. It's better than those electronic lightsabers. It is so cool. I reccomend it.

My son is a huge Star Wars fan, and loves this helmet. He is only able to wear it for a short time though, because the ridges inside of it start to hurt his face. Also, visibility through it is not great, it's hard for him to play Darth Vader very well when he can't see. Because of these problems, he loses enthusiasm not very long after he starts to play with it. It is VERY cool, the voice changing is not complete, but it does have other buttons which do the breathing thing and some pre-recorded sound bytes, which he uses more than the voice changing. He actually wore it for Halloween because it was better than any other Darth Vader Masks we could find. Worth the money.
