Excellent Translation of Hasbro Standards!,

It's an expected hazard of having children and wanting to play classic games. We have several game boxes in our closet that are unplayable because of missing pieces, not to mention the precious closet space they inhabit. That's never a problem with "Hasbro Family Game Night". You'll never lose the game pieces and the Wii interface is extremely simple for all members of the family.
Nothing fancy here, just the standards like Boggle, Battleship, Yahtze, Connect Four, and Sorry! It's a good mix of games with a variety of skill sets for the entire family. The games play like the standard non-electronic games, but also incorporate a number of interesting variations of the standard games. We also enjoy having Mr Potato Head serving as the Master-of-Ceremonies, though we wish he spoke more. He does not say much, but DOES celebrate or shake his head sadly depending on your performance. The graphics are not remarkable, but are crisp, clean, and well-rendered. The user-interface is well-designed, with a few flaws here and there where you may trip over your fingers. This game does NOT represent an innovative use of the Wii controller, though it IS a nice touch to shake the Wii-mote to shake the dice cup. Overall, no major complaints and we are enjoying the game. Probably should be listed at a lower price than $36, but cheaper than buying each of the individual games. This game makes a good edition to your Wii library as a game that doesn't take videogame playing skill. If you can play, the physical versions of these games, you will have no problem with the electronic edition. As with the original versions, these are more fun when played in a group, but they also work well in one-player mode. Highly Recommended!

nice wii port of classic game,

My kids are 4 and 6, and I find little game pieces in every crevice of our home. We love games.
The kids have played some of the games in HFGN: Sorry, Sorry Sliders, and Connect 4. The port of Sorry is a little easier to play than the original (they deal out 5 cards, and you can choose to play one of them), and that works better than the original for my kids. However, we play on a 25" TV, and the blocks are a little small on our screen. Sorry Sliders is probably the most fun: it really works on the Wii nicely. The other games are good, but the controls are a little clunky. It would have been nice if they included a round-robin tournament for 2-player games like Battleship and Connect 4, not unlike the way they do Table Tennis in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. The game also awards trophies and prizes to each player, a lot like Mario Party 8. The kids really like that. Overall, we like it. It has room for improvement, but it's fun for us

Hasbro's family game night is a fun twist on well loved board games and you don't have any pieces to lose!
Our favorite games were definately Battleship and Boggle and with an age range between 9 - 53 years in our household it was enjoyed by everyone. My husband and youngest daughter loved battleship and found the variations to the regular game a lot more fun. The controls are easy to use for children and not complicated in any way. Boggle can get a little confusing when you have 4 people all trying to highlight letters but I think that added to the fun of it all. Connect Four was a little boring, but it's not really a game I like to play much off the wii. We couldn't figure out Sorry, but we were having so much fun with Boggle and Battleship we didn't really care and I'm sure if we bothered to read the booklet that came with the game we'd figure it out quickly enough. Overall I'd give the game a 9 out of 10 simply for Battleship and Boggle.

My kids are 6 and 8 and were done after about 30 minutes of playing this game.
If your family enjoys these board games, then play the board games. Trying to play them on the Wii just doesn't work. Not only did I have to explain the game rules (which is fine), but then I had to explain how to get it all done using the Wii remote. "Sorry" was particularly frustrating since it's a board game we already own. It would have been so much simpler, and faster, to just haul out "Sorry" and play it rather than try to re-explain how to play it on the Wii. It's cute and looks like it's going to be a lot of fun, but it just isn't. My oldest was dying to play "Battleship." After about 1/3 through, she turned to me and said, "I want to be done." "Me too," I said.

I have found this game to be more fun than the board games, because there are more features and play modes than on the traditional board games.
After a seven hour marathon with a friend playing Yahtzee, we realized we were addicted. Fun twists on the Battleship like super weapons & Salvo (which lets you have a hit for every ship you have left on the board.) Connect 4 has Super Chips that have special options, and Sliders is a fun stress reliever. Also has fun competitive modes for parties, where you have to do little tasks (like roll a certain dice or shoot the pawn at a certain speed.) I would highly recommend this game for adults & families. In response to the reviewer who said their kids were bored after 30 minutes--that is the normal attention span for their age. Hopefully you were playing the games with them since 6 is a bit young to play the board versions and they would normally get frustrated for not having the cognitive skill set to fully play the games.

This is a great game to have for the family!
My son and I love to play board games, but can seldom get the other two people in our family to play. Then there's the issue of missing pieces, or needing to stop playing for a while for whatever reason. Having the game on the Wii neatly takes care of all those issues. The added attraction of showing it all on a 60 inch TV doesn't hurt either. The prizes and trophies are a really nice touch too. Although we would like to be able to see the prizes better, it's still neat to be able to look around our "room" and see everything. Probably the best thing about it is that in addition to the standard version of the game, there's an advanced version offered AND a customizable version. This enticed our other two family members out and we very quickly ramped up Sorry Sliders (a game we'd never played before) to the hardest settings we could come up with with and had a wonderful time complaining about our bad luck on our turns! I don't care much for playing it all by myself. But I can see my son doing so in order to get all the prizes and trophies available. We do have a reall great time playing it together. It's so rare that we get to play a game with more than just the two of us, that the computer players are a real treat. I'm hoping they come out with more classic games ported over to Wii in the future.

Presentation:
Great graphics for a mini game collection on the wii - not bad in today's standards, everything is crisp & clear & easy to see. The room has 4 themes you can change & the large windows behind the game board have at least 15 animations of outdoors from seasons, fantasy, even underwater. This game keeps stats of everything you've done, how long you played, your favorites, etc. you can earn trophies & earn the ability to change the style of the furniture & knick knacks in the room. Potato head only has a few cute noises, flies around to everywhere as an indicator & even acts as a spectator in games by woo hoos, sucking in breath & shaking his head which actually can give hints to players. The games open/close as if in real life which is a great detail. Settings Yes, you can play alone with how ever many AI opponents you want. There are so many for each game which gives great replayablity & adapted to different people's tastes. You can turn on/off music (well done, catchy, upbeat changes for every song & room theme), event sounds, rumble, hints, timers, rounds of games, AI difficulty, variations of the games, potato head, etc. The controls work well & flawlessly. Sorry Has classic style & bonus card (has 5 wacky cards like side-wiper that puts all pawns in on your way to the corner back to start). The only thing it needed was more instructions on how to play. Connect 4 Has classic, also has advanced Column Drop so every so often, a whole column of any chips fall which can add some randomness to the game. It shakes before it does & even does a fake out sometimes. Since this will add more 4 in a row, those chips disapear & can add more challenge. There is also power chips option which adds even more strategy since you get more 4 in a ros & chips do things such as 2x the score, blocking any chip from going into that column, pushing the lower chip in that column out, etc. Battleship Has classic & salvo style (in each turn you get 1 shot for how ever many ships you have still standing). Also has missiles, decoys, etc. Once the ships are laid, you can't see your own ships, so in some of these variations, it's important you remember. Every play, it switches between a player's turn & their side then to the other to show explosion or upshot of water for every shot. Sliders Never played before, kind of a variation of Sorry. Small metal-like gaming area that's little more then a board with slight ramps, you swing your pawn to the center bull's-eye & closer gets more points = moving to home on your small board of only the safe zone/home area. There are KO penalties instead of a person getting SORRY & losing their pawn if smacked into a corner. Also has different varations of the bulls eye area or even having it spin. The thing I had trouble with was the swing ability, I can use the d-pad to start my pawn on anywhere from left to right, but couldn't figure out angle, yet mine did have some on occasion. Boggle I never played this before, but it has word hunt & many customizable settings like panic flip, portable cubes, auto rotate, how many rounds & time limit. Yahtzee If you have the hints on, it does the math for you as well as highlight your options. Classic, advanced, black out, custom (also includes half card, reverse, speed battle, wild dice & score stealing) choices. Party Mode If you have more then one person playing w/you, you can have 10, 20 & 30 round games, and 4 more game style options to each of the games. The only serious deficit is that it could have a semi walk-thru of how to play them game for those who haven't instead of a short amount of small font text. Metacritic gives links to several gaming site's detailed reviews.

My niece and nephew, who are [...], enjoy playing Connect 4, and my mother-in-law enjoys the Yatzee game. As for Sorry and Sliders it takes a while to get through the games but they are still fun to play. My favorite game of all is the Battleship, the graphics and creativity on this game makes it a lot of fun! Overall I think if you are looking for great family fun then this will be a huge hit.

Tried four of the games on here; Battleship, Connect Four, Yahtzee and Sorry. The only one in which there were no problems using the controllers was Connect Four, and the price is not worth it just to play Tic Tac Toe. The worst of the lot I tried was Sorry. it is simply impossible to use the Wii remote with this game, as the program does not allow you much (if any) control. I spent several minutes in frustration wagging the remote all over the room trying to get it to engage on Sorry before just giving up. Battleship is a little better, but onscreen it gets boring really quickly. Yahtzee's controls are very shaky and it's tough to get to the score pad. I didn't even bother with Boggle after what I read on here and I had no interest in Sorry Sliders after the debacle of trying to play the original. This game fails on every level. Thank god for GameFly or I would be out $35.
