Talk about cheap. We got one of these for my daughter's birthday and I was excited. I had one when I was a kid. It turned on when I put in the batteries (more later) but the on/off switch did not work. So I took it back and got another. Same problem, on/off switch did not work. Talk about quality control issues.
Another complaint. I would prefer the old school electric plug, but they've switched to batteries. Fine. The bulb they use is smaller than a night light bulb, yet it takes 3 D size batteries to run it. Are you kidding me? I think you could light that with 1 C in 1970. Inefficient, wasteful, bad for the environment, expensive to run. Design could not be much worse. Find a 20 year old model on eBay.

You'd be crazy to buy this toy here for $44.00. It's only $10 at Target and Wal-Mart at regular price.

Still a Lite Brite, but not the one from your childhood,

I suspect a lot of people have bought this for their kids, remembering their own sturdy (perhaps slightly hot) Lite Brites. This is not that Lite Brite.
Pros: - Small, compact. Won't take up much space, and it would travel well. - Case for pegs--excellent idea. (See cons) - Battery-powered--don't have to put the kid near an outlet. Use rechargeables, of course. - It's a Lite Brite! Cons: - If you don't open the peg case carefully, pegs go everywhere. It only took me a couple of tries to learn how not to spray pegs, but I don't think my four-year-old will take the same care. - I *think* my old 80s Lite Brite had a place in the back to store the templates. If it didn't, it should have. And this one should too. Then it would all be self-contained.
