This is without a doubt the lest-inspired version of Monopoly I've ever seen. Sections of the board have the same art as the standard board, which comes off as really incongruous. The houses and hotels are completely unchanged (don't let the names fool you; I don't recall any "power-ups" in any game being shaped like monopoly houses), and the properties are now characters. Not levels from different games, which would make more thematic sense... Characters.

Personally, I'm also miffed that a collector's edition wouldn't go to the trouble of replacing the money with plastic coins, or even more fittingly, rupees from Legend of Zelda.

I think the biggest signifier of the laziness that went into this game's creation is the game's replacement of the "bank error" card. It's -precisely- the same as the classic one, but with Uncle Pennybags replaced by a Mario drawn in similar style. Really? I can be more creative than that without ANY brainstorming. Here goes: Bank error replacement card... "Surprise! Hidden coin block! Collect 200 coins!" There you go. Three seconds of thought and I can do better than the creative whizzes at Hasbro or Nintendo on this thing.

Look. I'm aware that the game doesn't have to meticulously follow every aspect of every Nintendo game. I'm very much aware that it's just a silly game. But you know what? If I want to just play Monopoly, I HAVE Monopoly. I'm pretty sure most homes in the United States have at least one copy of the game lying around. If I'm buying a collector's edition of a -themed- monopoly, I want something that's been carefully crafted to be a clever and interesting variation, not something that was whipped up by one intern half an hour before designs had to be finalized.

For those who collect monopoly this is definitely one to add to the collection, the usually changes for variations are the properties and each of those individual properties are based on a Nintendo character. Houses and Hotels have been replaced as power ups and invincibility. The only downside for me on this was how small the tokens were. But overall I still love monopoly and this edition makes it a must have for Nintendo fans.

Got this for twin grandkids. They love it. Being twins, boy and girl, it's sometimes a little difficult to find a gift they both like and can share. This fit the bill perfectly (and it helps them with the money angle also).

The little pieces aren't as cool looking and well made as on the box, and there aren't enough houses for a long game.

man, my niece loves this game and mario bros, the combo made her droll from excitement :D but any ways good print on board houses is the same as other monopoly games, it would be nice if they where castles from super mario world and classic nes. but over all its awesome. i gave it 3 stars because they didn't make the houses and hotels into castles or other homes and stuff features in other games like DK had a tree house they could have done that.

I bought this game for my husband as a Christmas gift for two reasons: He loves (and I mean LOVES) Monopoly, and he loves Nintendo. Well, needless to say, he LOVED this game!! We ended up playing this game together almost immediately after he unwrapped it and it was great to see the classic Nintendo games represented on the board as well as the little character pieces.
