Monopoly Deluxe is a grand update of the monopoly game we all used to play in our grandma's basement with our cousin Jimmy. Now that I'm grown up and my mother has died, I have taken the opportunity to teach my kids how to play. This game is incredibly fun, and Hasbro made extra sure that players would be delighted by this games new features. There's a wheel that conveniently holds property for you, wooden houses and hotels, a restructured bank, and a brand new look and feel to the board game. There's no other game on the market that will teach you so many things about business and money counting and conservation. This will be extremely helpful when your kids work at a fast food restaurant. In my mind, this is the best version to buy if you have enough money left after paying your third mortgage on your trailer home. One downside, however, is that the money is easily ripped and bent. I find this to happen most often when your brother in law comes over and you start to quarrel. Overall, kudos to Hasbro!

I started collecting different editions of Monopoly (and copycat games) when I was a little kid. This is how I began learning about money... and how expensive rent really is... I received this game as a gift, and prefer this edition over the others. With twice as much paper money, it's a heck of a lot more fun to be the banker. There's a nifty stand for the Title Deeds... and the wooden houses/hotels don't need to be straightened out every time someone throws the dice, either.

This deluxe version of monopoly is in-cre-di-ble. Sometimes we play it so much that we stop and don't play it for ages, but after a few months we play it and this deluxe version has made playing it so much easier.

First, the wooden Houses and Hotels. They are a lot more fun to use and much easier to handle. They're not hollow and look real nice, even if they're not so detailed as the plastic ones.

Second, the Gold pieces. The pieces are absolutely elegant with their simple designs and their beautiful shiny gold. Not real gold, but it makes them all look incredible! Plus, their's an extra token. It's a train token, and I find it one of my favorite tokens now. (The money bag is also included)

Third, the banker's tray. Some people may not like this if they are too used to taking money out of individual trays, but this keeps the money together much easier. Their is a slot where you insert the money like you would drop an envelope in a drawer, and you can take it out easily. Plus, it has three little compartments for the houses, hotels, and a small one for the tokens and dice. It really is wonderful.

Fourth, the Propert Carousel. If you ever got angry about keeping the properties in order, you don't need to anymore. It is a small turntable with slots for each property including railroads and utilities. You can spin it around whenever you're searching for a particular one. It is extremely handy, as you can spin it very easily and it never wears out. (If you take out all the properties and spin the turntable on a smooth surface, it will spin for ages :-) )

Fifth, the Community Chest and Chance cards are not paper. They're now plastic cards with coloring in their pictures. It looks real shiny and new, and they're much easier to shuffle and handle.
The board also has a large specially colored Rich Uncle Pennybags in the middle with DELUXE EDITION below him in gold letters. That really gives the whole thing a brand new work. (The money also has DELUXE EDITION on it, so you can tell it apart from the original).

Seven, the other tray for holding things. If you have ever gotten fed up with using rubber bands or plastic bags to hold your pieces and properties and cards, this will make your life ten times easier. It has a spot for holding everything together leaving no room for scattering unless you turned the box upside-down. It has a progressively larger compartement (from the bottom up) sunk into the tray, leaving spaces for the Community Chest and Chance cards first. Then the Title Deed cards, then the property carousel, and tow big slots beside that for the money. You can put it all away and take no more than five minutes in the next game to start.

Altogether, not only is this game an enormous improvement to the original (the original was good too :-) ) But it saves you hours of time just putting the game together or putting it away. I found monopoly much more enjoyable when I didn't need to take so much time to move things around or sort things out. If you love monopoly, then get this. You will really find the gameplay much more enjoyable with fancy pieces and easier sorted out areas for your house, hotels, money, ect. It may cost a lot, but it is worth ever penny. I think I can gaurantee you will not be disappointed.

The only thing "Deluxe" about this addition is the glossy foil cover of the box, which is designed to make you think you are getting something special by paying more money. Nothing could be further from the truth. This edition screams "CHEAP" from the second the lid comes off.

The board is a quad-fold affair, redesigned presumably to allow a smaller, less expensive box. It has much less rigidity than the single-fold board of the "classic" version. When it is left out for an extended period of time, especially overnite, the ends of the board curl up and refuses to lay flat.

The houses and hotels are completely featureless, just small blocks of wood. They looked to be dipped in some type of vegetable dye rather than painted. This is probably an attempt to eek out a few extra cents of corporate profit. The "bankers tray" and "property wheel" are flimsy plastic jokes. Neither would last under play by children much more than a few games.

This edition is a sad legacy to a classic game, and the cheapness of the set detracts from the joy of play. For the additional cost, all you are really getting is the fancy foil cover and one extra play token, plus a board that curls up at the edges: Whoopee!

My advice: Save the extra money and buy the "classic" version.

This is proably the most durable Monopoly game I own. I own several other games such as the Star Wars edition, the 60th Anniversary edition and the plain old Monopoly. The game is also very fun and is a great family game. If you want a good fun game that is going to last get the Deluxe Edition.

I decided on a Monopoly Deluxe Edition set after more than 30 years of familiarity with various of its predecessors, so everything fell into a frame of reference. I think my favorite feature is the large supply of 2-color printed money. Monopoly money has been one of those grand ubiquities to have enriched my life since I was a kid. The supply of tokens, large as it is, will satisfy the most demanding of purists, since none of the historical ones I can recall are "missing". The wooden houses and hotels, also feel much more substantial to the touch. To my general gratification, the bulk of the game has the endearing format that might be lost by someone's ideas about "improvement", with one notable exception: the playing board that folds into 4 sections, with the unavoidable "crack" from one side to the center. The board never lays quite as flat as the old 2-fold style. I have been fortunate enough to find some truly devoted players throughout my family and friends, and a game of Monopoly, played for 2 - 3 hours or to the bitter end, is a fine lesson in living, planning, acting and interacting, as well as the art of graciously winning (or losing). The counting of payments, change, etc., also provide useful skills for the 7-and-up crew, as does the monitoring of the game situation, such as who owns what. Some people, I know, will buy this product to squirrel it away into a collection, but my set is definitely one I want to use.

Monopoly has been a traditional family-favorite for centuries now. When I was around 7, I remember playing with the original $10.99 one. Now that game is lost and broken, so I wanted to get a replacement. I was originally going to buy the 2000 millenium edition but there were sooo many bad reviews. When I read the reviews for this game, every one was good. AND IT IS A GREAT GAME! Its durable, definitely educational, and fun! It is very attractive with the gold pieces and it comes with a plastic stand for the cards, of which is ingenious! I love everything about this game. No problem storing all of the game pieces and the game doesn't get damaged in its box either. BUY IT TODAY!!

Choosing the deluxe edition of monopoly was a great decision. It is faster to deal out properties with the spinner and faster with money with the organizer. It is fun to play with Monopoly. There is alot to think about in this challenging, yet fun game. I hope you too can enjoy this addicting deluxe edition of Monopoly also.

I bought Monopoly Deluxe to replace my old set; it was so old, it only had the 8 tokens (no battleship or cannon). I never knew those were part of the current sets! Looking at Monopoly.com I discovered the new moneybag token and saw the locomotive which is exclusive to this Deluxe set. The tokens are a beautiful gold tone, the carousel is clever for holding the deeds and you get twice the amount of money of the original set. Community Chest and Chance cards are redesigned and in full color. Rules are nicely written. I had to contact Hasbro concerning the wooden houses; I had to replace them due to some defects and deformities for a very small fee, but Hasbro made the transaction painless and enjoyable. I agree with some reviewers concerning the way the board is built to fold away; a strong-handed person like myself has to be extremely careful when handling it, lest it becomes torn. The box should have been made sufficient length to make the board fold out the regular way. The board in the Deluxe Edition allows you to only lay it out on a flat, hard surface. These are only minor complaints, the game is great, and made me a bigger fan than before. The tokens, money and design of the Deluxe Edition has enough wonderful nuances to make most Monopoly fans happy.

I love this and Sorry, only two of the greatest board games ever made. They've stood the test and time and still bring promise and old fashion fun to everyone. In fact I recently had to replace my monoply game, since my old one had missing pieces and wear and tear from years of use.
