Obama 1000-piece Puzzle

I'll admit, I bought this puzzle as a joke and brought it to a family party. All uptight conservatives, my family-- except the one sister who spent too much time back East. But guess what-- it was a hit! Lots of fun to put together, easy design kept the flow going, and with 3-6 people working on it at any given time, it was put together pretty quickly.

As we worked to shape the distinguished features of our beloved president's face... our heart swelled with pride at the grandiose marvel, the star-spangled magnitude, and as sure as humble community organizers can rise to lead the free world, we donned that American spirit and rose to say, "Yes, We CAN!"-- finish the puzzle, that is.

My "blue" sister ended up taking it home with her.

I do several 1000 piece puzzles a month and on my last run to buy puzzles I picked this one up to do for inauguration day 2009.

Putting together the puzzle is very quick. I got it done in 7 hours. (over 100 pieces per hour!).

The image consists of several quotes layered in the background from Mr. Obama's victory speech.

It was inspiring to work on because to complete the sentences I had to keep repeating the sentences to place the pieces properly. It was great!

The borders and all of the blank pieces that run around the sides and up at the top was the most frustrating part. There are three layers deep of blank similar pieces up at the top. I did the border edges last for this reason.

Also, the pieces are cut to fit very loosely. They don't go in very snug so there was a bit of second guessing. If you have pets or plan to transfer the puzzle to another board, be careful!

The image and the layering of the quote text that you can't quite see unless you have the pieces in front of you makes it very simple, fun to do, inspiring and with a rewarding finish.

I've rated the educational value based on the quotes holding historic significance.

For anyone intimidated to do a 1000 piece puzzle I'd definitely recommend this one as a starter. I don't think I've done one of this size with that kind of detail that quickly.

I bought this puzzle to put it together and make it into a clock and then selling it for a nice profit. But President Obama isn't too popular these days and I don't know whether I'll be able to make a profit on it or not. BUT all in all it was fun to put together and I'll still make it into a chiming clock and hang on to it and maybe someday it will become valuable. I believe it is a very nice product and woul buy it again.
