4.0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun for boys and girls!
My 2 year old son got this toy for his birthday and he loves it! Contrary to some of the other feedback listed for this toy, this toy is not scary, gross or disgusting at all. I actually find the sayings cute: 'Let's give this lawn a buzz-cut', 'Power up', 'This grass is thick/tall', Let's give this lawn a fancy cut', 'Power down', and 'The grass is perfect'. This lawn...

2.0 out of 5 stars This toys needs a manners lesson!
The durability is fine, it moves on grass well and the mowing sound is cute...BUT the faces can be a little scary for younger or more timid children. The MOST IMPORTANT part...the phrases this mower has and the fact that it burps...it is just rude and unecessary! These are things I want to teach my children not to do. We returned it and purchased the Little Tykes mower...

I actually find the sayings cute: 'Let's give this lawn a buzz-cut', 'Power up', 'This grass is thick/tall', Let's give this lawn a fancy cut', 'Power down', and 'The grass is perfect'. This lawn mower does not burp as one of the other feedback comments suggested. My son uses the lawn mower in the house as well as outside. What's great is it even has a switch underneath the lawnmower where you can turn the sound on or off. My little girl just started walking and she even loves to play with it. The only problem is that she and her brother like to fight over who gets to play with it first :)

I bought this mower for my 20 month old son and what a surprise I had. He loves his mower, if he could sleep with it, he would! Everyday now, we have to go outside and mow the lawn. The mower is very durable and takes alot of punishment. It provides hours of enjoyment inside and outside. The whole body is plastic and very light-weight. If he runs into something, it won't be hurt. I'm very pleased, as well as my son, that I bought this product.

My two year old son received this for Christmas last year. He loved it when he recieved it and he continues to love it a year later. He has a friend that's one year older and he loves it too. Even my 15mo. old daughter tries to get in on the act. A great feature is the on/off switch for times when Mom needs quite. But the phrases "Mike" says are adorable.

This is the cutest mower. My son loves playing with it, as well with the other pieces of playskool's yard crew. And it is great that it has an on/off switch!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings, May 21, 2003

Though my two year old son (and my three year old daughter as well) love this mower, I have mixed feelings. We've had one of the bubble blower kind which never blew bubbles correctly and didn't hold up well. I like the build and design of this mower better. I love that it makes a mowing sound as one of it's "phrases". My comlaint is...why does it have to burp and then exclaim, "Uh, that was me!" ? I try to teach my children manners and not to chuckle after a good belch and claim it. Yes, I get it that the mower is munching grass, etc. but this is unnesessary in the overall concept of the toy. At least another time one of the phrases burps it says excuse me but I still wish someone would just make a mower that made a mowing sound. Just a plain old mowing sound. No bubbles. No crude phrases. Just a mower that acted like the real thing.

My son received this for his 1st birthday. He was terrified of the voice at first and it couldn't support him like a walker, so we put it away until he was 2. Then he LOVED it and continues to play with it,inside or outside EVERY DAY. A good toy for little ones who like to mow the lawn like Daddy and the mow-mow guys! Additionally, I recommend the Home Depot Weed Wacker...another big favorite in our house!

We wanted a toy for our 14mth old to push around the house and out on the lawn and I decided to buy this one because it was on sale and came with the bonus zip cutter. I was bit concerned about all the bad reviews regarding the phrases that Mike says but after listening to the toy, I really don't know what all the fuss is about. Here is most of what he says:
- Power up - its time to work or its cutting time
- Power down - I'm full; our work is done; this lawn is perfect
- Let's give this grass a buzz cut
- This grass is tall; this grass is thick
- Let's give this lawn a fancy cut
- Yum Yum
- It's lunch time
- Hmm Hmm this grass is tasty
- Ha Ha
- One yard down, 10 more yards to go
- Mow, mow the lawn

The mower is loud with or without the sound on and has a sort of drill sargent voice. My son seems to enjoy it and I guess that is the most important part.

Hope this helps future buyers

1.0 out of 5 stars Need to redo the phrases this thing says, February 20, 2005

This would be a great toy and we would have kept it but quite frankly, the things it says is just downright disgusting. Boys learn those things soon enough and to hear this thing belch is just awful. It's downright embarrassing to hear our son use this thing around company. No one can actually believe that someone would make a toy that says the things this lawnmower says. Ours went back and it's quite a shame because it really is a cute mower otherwise. We replaced ours with a John Deere toy lawnmower and by far, it's even better so our little guy loves it more than this Mike the mower. The John Deere has realistic sounds and actually sounds like a real mower. And, it goes through grass like a breeze. A great investment - the only downfall is that you can usually only find them at upper end toy stores or at John Deere dealerships (where they're usually about eight dollars cheaper than the toy stores). Buy hey, if you have to go to the dealership, then take your son and have a great time looking at all the "tractor" based toys! Made for a great afternoon in our house, plus he got to take this lawnmower home! Try to imagine mom driving home and a son in the back trying to mow in a carseat. That's how exiting the John Deere lawnmower is - Mike the mower just can't compare and the quality. Wow! Great deal for the money and tons of fun. I recommend the John Deere hands down.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like Mike!, December 31, 2007

It came down to either this one or a Fisher Price mower and Amazon had this one on super sale so we bought Chompin' Mike. I'll confess I, too, wanted to buy him because others said he was rude. You can only handle so many happy, happy, joy, joy toys before you start to go a little insane.

So far, I haven't heard anything objectionable out of my Mike. "This grass is tasty," "First down and ten yards to mow," "This grass is perfect," "Power down, our work is done..." are just a few. He does talk in sort of a football coach, manly man voice but that's OK. We also have enough fairy princesses around here to balance it all out!

We like his chomping action and my 18-month-old son pushes him all over the house. Mike's a winner!
