The Pokemaon Master Trainer Board game is a lot of fun for the Pokemon fanatic. We do not have the electronic Pokemon games. If we did, I suspect that the enjoyment of this board game would be somewhat diminished. Our 7 year old is a Pokemon lover and mastered the rules quickly. He plays at least twice a week and would play more if he could find a willing opponent. The game exercises some basic math skills and requires the use of some minor amounts of logic and strategy. Which brings us to the downside of this game. It usually takes in excess of two hours to play the game. It also has a lot of gamepieces, cards, etc. to get lost. However the game is well made and fairly durable.

This game is complicated to learn, but is alot of fun for kids and adults too. My son is 4 1/2, and it really is great to play the Pokemon battles with him, helps me know what he's talking about, and also the game requires alot of math skills--dice, adding numbers, recognizing both numerals and dice spots--which offers a great educational opportunity. You can also play simplified versions of the game by creating your own "rules" and leaving out certain aspects of the game. Playing with 3-4 people and following all the rules equals about an hour-and-a-half to two hour game...which kept my son's attention! You need to keep track of all the pieces, though, don't let kids carry them around the house, or they will get lost. My son's six year old friend loves it, though her 3 1/2 yr old brother got too frustrated (unable to count, throw the dice, etc. ) The age level on the game says 7+ but if your child is 4+ and knows numbers and how to count, and is familiar with playing games and taking turns, they should do ok. Young ones-- or any kids at first-- may need the parent going over the rules "tutoring" play as it goes along. It's alot of fun, though--and never the same twice.

Very fun and easy to change the rules for more fun, November 25, 1999

I played this game with my 6 year old daughter and 9 year old son and we had a great time! Pretty long instructions so make sure your kids are in the right mood to listen before you play. Midway through the game we changed the rules, my kids seemed more interested in collecting the pokemon and cheering for each other and less interested in doing battles with each other. They didn't fight and played for over two hours happily! Recommended for long vacations and cold winter days.

My kids love this game. My 6 year-old has a quick temper and my 10 year old likes to be the boss all the time. This is the only game in our house that they can actually play for more than 20 minutes without fighting.I timed them once and they were on the floor playing for 21/2 hours-without fighting. This is the first thing I have ever heard them actually have a conversation about, asking questions and giving helpful answers to each other. It has been a great help to my youngest in math and reasoning. It is a lot of fun to sit and watch them play and watch them think. I actually think I can see the wheels turning!

My 6 year old brother got this for his birthday. We all liked it right away, but it did take a while to figure out and takes a couple hours to play. I recommend it for kids ages 6 to 15. Don't play it on a school day because it takes too long and you can never finish it! We will have a lot of fun with it over the winter holiday. The best thing about it is that when you get this game you get 150 Poke'mon pogs!

Our whole family has enjoyed this game. I hate to admit it but the kids got the game for Christmas and we all enjoy playing it. Not only does the game involve adding (to see if youv'e got enough attack power to battle the supreme trainers) but it also involves strategy. I'd rather buy the game than all those booster packs

My son loves to play this game. His dad and I also play. It gives us some insight into his Pokemon "world". Getting the rules down is time consuming at first but smooth sailing after that. Good educational toy. Teaches math and strategy.

My son is 7 and loves the game. If your child can learn the tradeing card game they can learn this one too. It will take some time figure out the rules but it is very fun once you do. The goal is to catch your pokemon and win a battle with a trainer. The game takes at least one hour to complete. My 9yr old niece tought herself.

Pokemon Masters - great game (at first), December 29, 1999

My brothers and I tried to figure out the rules to this, the beginning was pretty simple - you roll the dice and if you land on a Catch 'em! space, you flip over the (previously turned-over) pokemon pog-like piece of cardboard that corresponds to that space and roll a die. If you roll the number(s) pictured under the Pokemon on the card, you catch that Pokemon! You can use items like master balls to help you - add 1,2,3 or 4 to your roll to try to get then # you want, you can pick them up along the way on spaces that don't have "Catch 'em!" I think the best part is the unknown dungeon, there are 4 mystical pokemon in a random order upside-down - Mewtwo, Zapdos, Articuno, and Moltres. You choose one - flip it over to see which one it is - and try to catch it, which you can only do by rolling a six! When you have all your Pokemon (and meet some requirements,) you're on to meet the elite! However, it's particularly tough because you have to add up the amount of damage your pokemon can do (it's on the card) plus the # on one roll of the die, plus any +attack items you have, and your enemy - one of the elite 4 or gary - adds up the amt. of his pokemon's attack (an outrageously high level compared to yours) plus a roll of the die (and correspond it to a chart on his card) and all this complicated stuff. This game was really fun but it took a LOT of time and I would suggest carefully reading the whole booklet through especially on the elite 4 BEFORE you play ^----^. Good luck! Have fun! And remember....Gotta catch 'em all! (hehe) o_o ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~O ~ O

What can I say about this game except that it is as fun as the original gameboy game mixed with the card game. The rules are hard to understand at first, but once you get the rules down, it's a fun game. If you have just watched Pokemon : The First Movie, a couple of characters are missing from this game. Mew, for instance is not in this game. Other than the abscence of some Pokemon, it's a good board game.
