Power Tour Guitar Rocks!,

This was by far the best gift my son got for his birthday. He hasn't put it down. He has been wanting to learn to play guitar for a long time and following the lights on this guitar makes it easy and fun to learn. The songs are great too and he even uses his MP3 player more because he can play along. He feels like a real rock star now!

Can I Give It Six Stars? Seven? Awesome Guitar Toy!,

Can I give it six stars?! Hands down the best birthday present my 12-year-old got. His 16-year-old brother loves it too. It feels great in the hands, with a nice heft, and shiny smooth "frets" and "strings" that work like touch pads -- no buttons, just touch. NICE.
It's educational, creative, and an awful lot of toy for not much money. BIG hit. It plays in several modes, you can play it like a regular guitar, or play along with your MP3 player plugged into the guitar, or do the fun exercises included in the guitar's pre-programmed tracks. It has a fabulous real guitar sound, very loud, we have to keep telling him "Turn it down!" You don't actually need the amp they sell separately, but I think the grandparents are buying that for Xmas next. He will love that too.

Really cool musical toy,

This is a really cool electronic instrument. You actually will learn something about musical scales (There are 12 notes that you can play on the fret board...all the notes of a chromatic scale) If you want to play rock, you're all set...power chords all the way.
The guitar has a few modes...(1) playing (2) jamming with external audio (3) 'simon"-esque mode where you follow a pattern that the guitar shows you and (4) 'visualization mode' (you plug in a music source and the fretboard animates to the music while the guitar's speaker plays the audio) You can also choose a different styles for the guitar so the notes you play will sound different (ex: with distortion, or echo, etc.) I find some of the mode to sound very similar. Overall, it's a great piece of technology for a good price.

I bought two of these for my two sons (2 and 5). They both love playing the guitar and they are definitely the favorite Christmas gift this year. I have also been using them and I've been enjoying learning the songs.
As a tech-type, I was EXTREMELY impressed at how much went into this product. Each of the fret points are touch-sensitive. There are no buttons to push at all. The "strum" zone is motion-sensitive, so you don't really need to touch the strum board to play. There is a sensor behind the strum board to simulate palming the strings for a short-played interval. ALSO... (and this took me by surprise when I was messing around) there is a WAH sensor in at the top of the fret board that when you move it up, it will bend the note! The song variety is really impressive. The difficulty increases as you move down the fret board. There are several familiar titles and everything is taught in stages. The one thing I wish it had was the ability to practice PART of the song instead of starting over at the beginning. BUT, for what it is, it's tons of fun. I recommend this for the 5-8 range, but my 2yo likes the Jam mode alot. You can't beat it for the price. =-]

The stated recommended age for this product is 10-15 years of age. Try doubling that. Or even tripling it. For anyone who ever wanted to be a rock star, this is for you. I couldn't put it down. And when I finally did, I found myself picking it back up again. My only gripe is that since it's made for kids, it's a little small for an adult. (But it doesn't affect my overall rating of excellent.) If you have friends like mine, there's a whole late teen/adult demographic out there who would love this thing. For fans of "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" the Power Tour Guitar is a must-have. Just read the rest of the reviews and buy it. You won't be sorry.

Looking Forward to Version TWO...,

This review is from: Hasbro Power Tour Electric Guitar (Black) (Toy)
This is what I would call a perfect toy guitar for kids (teens and adults too). I've got a 4 year old son and a 7 year old daughter and they both love it. I also gave one to my 11 year old god-son and he too loved it (his dad too). To be honest, I love the darn thing too (already mastered 5 songs). I can play an actual guitar but this thing really makes it very simple to teach kids how to strum and understand what a beat is (chords will come later). This is worth every penny.
The guitar teaches basic guitar skills that can be carried on once you jump to the real thing. It sticks to main chords (power), and I can see why this is classified as a toy. There is actually a lot more potential here, hence the title "Looking Forward to Version TWO". I actually play and own an acoustic and electric guitar. After figuring out the chords, I was actually able to to quickly play some songs that I play with my actual guitar (sounds pretty good too). My buddy (god-son's dad) thinks its great too. If anyone in "Tiger Electronics" is reading this review, awesome product!!!

This was a gift for my son that was, in all honesty, a little bit of a guess. He is six and just starting to get into music. The Power Tour guitar was perfect. The fact that he can experiment with the guitar sounds, listen to his music, and even learn a few chords has kept everyone interested. We have had it for under a week so the durabbility is unclear, but it seems decent.

I bought this guitar for my 9 year old son for Christmas. He wanted a guitar but I didn't want to spend the money to buy him a real one when I'm not sure how serious he'll be. I read the reviews of this item online and decided to buy it. I am very impressed with how much fun it is and must admit that I've played with it more than my son. Each of the 12 songs programmed into the guitar include a lesson on how to play it with each one getting progressively harder. It not only teaches the right notes but also the right method (strum, hammer or palm). The one drawback is that it's plastic and may break easily. Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase.

This toy is lots of fun,but don't believe you'll learn how to actually play guitar by using it.It teaches you how to play songs by following the flashing lights, but even if you master it, you would not be able to pick up a real guitar and play. Great finger excercise!!! Lots of fun,my 11 year old played it all day long when he got it,and still plays it often!

I worried that this toy might be a bit juvenile for my 13 year old, but decided to give it a try because
of the good price (20.99 for white guitar.) The guitar was bit smaller than anticipated, but I was pleasantly surprised at what a hit it has been at our house. My 13 year old son loves it, and has not put it down for very long since he got it yesterday. It is very fun and challenging for him. Although it takes some practice (which is good!) , he has steadily moved through the "learn" levels. Both my 9 year old daughter and 5 year old son love it too. One reviewer said that it was frustrating and too hard, but we have not found that to be true. Once you figure out the basics, it's very simple. The levels start out very easy and uncomplicated and work up from there. It was addictive for the whole household--even for my husband and I! The only drawback is that you have the beat of the songs continually running through your mind long after the toy has been turned off! Great fun and highly recommended! We were glad we took the chance on it. It has been the most played with toy this Christmas . . . and we got a lot of other fun stuff too! |
