One Major Downfall in a Great Party Game...,
By

This review is from: Hasbro Shout About Movies#1 (DVD)
This game is a great party game for anyone who is a movie fan. There are 8 very different rounds that each have a variety of questions, from movie quotes and naming titles of movies to interseting historical facts.
The coolest part of the game is that it is completed played on the DVD player itself and doesn't require a game board or any game systems. The game tracks your score for you, so you don't need paper or the ability to add. The biggest downfall that nobody seems to mention is that this game can only be played 3 times!! $20 for a game that can only be played 3 times is a little pricey. When you put the DVD in your player, the game asks you to select a game that you haven't played before and gives you 3 choices. The game is not like some of the other movie trivia games that shuffle their questions, it is the exact same game everytime. Final Verdict: A great party game that has trivia for everyone! Buy it used and then sell it or give it to a friend after you play the 3 games on the disk.

This is a great party game, and if you love movies you will have a blast playing this game with a group of friends. While given clues about various films, players divided into two teams will shout out movie titles, or landmarks, or movie stars. The game is simple to play, and the built in instructions and score-keeping are real time savers...there is no gameboard to deal with, dice to lose, or pawns to move so that is a real plus. But the main drawback to this game is that once you play the 3 games per dvd, you won't go back to play it again because the questions asked on each game never change. Maybe if they combined the games on all 4 disks available onto one dvd you would go back and play again....because then it's not as likely you would remember the answers, but with only 8 rounds per game and 10 or less questions or clues per round it's hard not to remember what the correct answers are. The variety of films covered isn't bad, but folks who enjoy older films of the 30's, 40's and 50's won't find too many questions pertaining to films made prior to 1970, and horror fans will not find any questions pertaining to thier blood soaked genre. If you can find a copy of this game used, or for around $10 you should pick it up. But $20 seems a little steep for a game that will played and put away until forgotten.

This game was extremely entertaining for our group of 4 adults and three kids. My 13-year-old was able to answer a few, but most of the clips were from movies before her time (our box read 13 and up). We all had a complete blast and felt this is a game meant to be passed on, since you can only play it three times. It was well worth the $20 (although my sister said she got hers for $10 - maybe she was mistaken).
Basically, it's three different games, eight rounds each, lots of shouting, and lots of fun! This would make a great party game, much like pictionary in the late 80's, but one you wouldn't want to play too often or else it loses some of its charm. Buy it for your holiday get-together and put it away until next year - or pass it along and share the fun!

I'm 16 years old and I played this game at a party with a bunch of my friends. All of my friends are really into movies and it was a lot of fun. The game plays best in a crowd of people, but I played a second game one on one with a friend and it was fun too. The graphics were great and all of the rounds were a lot of fun. You don't even need paper to keep score, the game scores for you!
Thanks for a great game!

This game was given to me as a gift. It is likely the best new game that I have played in years. I play a lot of board games, and there is no other game that compares. It is all on DVD, but it doesn't need a video game system, just a regular DVD player. I am a big fan of Trivial Pursuit, and am also a not so humble movie buff, and this game really tickled me pink. It has classics like Hitchcock and ET, and favorites like Teen Wolf. It has a lot of elements of a game show, with a live host and a final jeopardy type bet at the end of the game. But, it also looks and feels like a video game and the graphics are top, top notch. I recommend this to anyone and everyone.

I played this game at a party, and it's a lot better than "Scene It." Anyone that likes movie trivia will love this game. It has great movie clips, and it's all on the DVD player, no board, cards, or dice. There's this cool part where there's a movie still but with parts missing, like a guy's head. It's really cool, I've never seen anything like it.

I received a copy of the disc. One of my close friends is VERY into movies and so played against him. Here are some of the basics:
There are 8 rounds, and there is good variety in the rounds (mutliple choice, matching, ect). The game is very easy to play, just pop in the dvd and you are good to go. Can be played on a DVD player, computer or ps2. The host is suprising good and enjoyable to watch. The game is VERY fun and keeps the sense that its anyones game throughout. Ok, there are the problems. Each disk has only 3 games, so it doesnt have much replay value, however they can be replayed it would just be mean to not tell people you know all the answers. And its not that easy. Depending on your needs this may be a good thing or a bad thing. And the good: Great host. Lots of variety within a game. There is always a chance for losing team to catch up. Easy. And of course a boatload of fun.

My friends and I, all in college, are major movie buffs, so when another friend told me about the game, I was eager to try it. Some parts are tough, but with the team setup of the game, it seems to even out. Favourite rounds were Still Crazy: a round where scenes are built piece by piece, a word association round: 6 clues are provided and the idea is to name the movie, and the quotes round, of course! The hardest rounds were the matching and the trivia rounds. Still, we had great fun. Its better if the teams are evenly matched, then its more fun. The main objection I have is that in the 8 rounds, many of the movies are dated and overused. There are great ones, though...Rain Man, Cast Away!! Also, this game is linear in progression, there is no variation in the order of the questions. Scoring uses the honour system. There are 3 games, each lasting around 45 minutes at the very fastest, its the same as the cost of a regular DVD and is much more fun with lots of people. I have bought this for several people and some of my friends have as well. Recently I played a game where a 12 year old and an 82 year old were playing so don't worry about the age thing, both enjoyed it. Really, I recommend it.

Played last night after Thanksgiving dinner. Fifteen people shouted, yelled, screamed and laughed. Simple to play, lots of fun. It got real competitive (my family's like that). Each game lasts about an hour so we figured it was less than $.50 per person. Great idea for a party.

My family and I LOVE this game! I broke out this game one night to play with my sisters who are huge movie buffs. We had a BLAST! By the next day we were up to game 3 and included 4 more family members including my 8 year old son and my mom. This is truly a family game. There is no learning curve - just put the DVD in the player and start. The game keeps track of the score (you enter it after each round) so you can just play.
Others have mentioned the downside - you can only play the games once. I am not sure how you can get around this with this medium. I suggest selling (or buying) this game at eBay to get the most of your money. Great fun! |
