2.0 out of 5 stars Who the heck needs indoor hoops like this???
For those of you who missed the fact, like I did, that this is an INDOOR ONLY basketball hoop, be on alert! This is a big contraption, with a base that is filled with water for stability, close to a full-sized hoop. Who has the room in their home for an indoor-only hoop that is this big? Do most people have a gym with tall ceilings in their home???

As soon...

I have scads of grandkids, and 11 in one family. I wanted to keep them away from the TV and from video games, so after asking permission from my son-in-law, I ordered this nifty gizmo for them to have in their living room (vaulted ceiling).

They have a blast with it, but they are already on a replacement unit. The scoring device failed pretty much right away, and the nerf ball, which has a plastic coating on it, split with normal usage.

Amazon was great with the replacement unit (so I wouldn't buy it anywhere else), but what a hassle to repack the thing.

It's just a fun family indoor toy, and even has a drink dispenser built in.

4.0 out of 5 stars 9 year olds have a blast with this set-up, February 21, 2007
This review is from: Hasbro Nerf Showtime Hoops Interactive Indoor Gaming System (Toy)
We did experience, after 5 days, lose of scoring mechanism. Also, the ball split. Amazon was 110% helpful with the exchange. We kept our box, re-packaged and were given a new one. So far, 2 months later, scoring is working. Ball did split, even on carpented surface. 9 year old boys have a blast with this game! Our son says it's the best gift ever!

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy with Purchase, March 9, 2007
This review is from: Hasbro Nerf Showtime Hoops Interactive Indoor Gaming System (Toy)
Just purchased this indoor hoop for six year old son's birthday (although his 9 yr old brother plays as well). I was worried about the height of it after reading reviews, but it fit in our basement fine. i wish that somewhere online it had said the minimum ceiling height requirement. Sure enough, that measurement is on the instructions so here it is: 86 inches
The box it came in was gigantic--way bigger than what i was expecting. Anyway, the hoop was quite easy to assemble and didn't require any special tools or expertise. We had it assembled in less than 15 minutes for sure. Then we plugged it in and we started to play! My boys LOVE it!!!!! I've never seen anything like it. The spotlight feature is really unique and makes it a ton more entertaining. The man's voice who speaks on it can get annoying after awhile, but my boys think he's funny. (Thankfully, you can turn his voice OFF.) I think NERF really thought about the details when designing it. Volume controls, many games to choose from, optional MP3 player, drink dispenser, ball holder, adjustable hoop, non battery operated, etc.
Only drawbacks: ball doesn't really bounce and apparently will wear out quickly. Also, it has a place for 2 balls to be stored and it only comes with one. I hope they come out with replacement balls that can be bought separately.
Overall i'm a big fan of this hoop. And when my boys have friends over, that's usually the first thing they want to play with now instead of gameboys/playstations etc. YAHOO NERF!!!!! Thank you!

My 9 year old son received this for Christmas and absolutely loves it. It keeps the kids entertained for hours. He likes the fact that it has a drink dispenser and he can hook up his IPOD. My only complaint is that is it very big and takes up alot of space in his room.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Toy, January 5, 2007

I bought this item for my 10 year old when I noticed it on sale for $100 with free shipping. Don't think it's worth $200 + that it normally is when you include shipping.
Anyway, he loves it. It is rather large and sturdy for an indoor unit. You have to put on lowest height to play indoors unless you have high ceilings. It has been on my back deck since Christmas, which makes it much more fun to play because of all the additional room. One warning though, if you don't fill the plastic base with water, it can blow over and break. To make it easier to move around, we didn't add the water. It is sturdy enough to do so, but gusty winds blew it over and the wired platic rim shattered- so now I need a replacement part.
The additional features of ipod connection, talking backboard, lights, adjustable height, etc. really make it a fun basketball set up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Basketball Goal, January 23, 2007

We bought this for our 9 year old son for Christmas. HE LOVES IT. It is very well made and very entertaining. He plays basketball by himself every chance he gets. We haven't used the MP3 speakers yet, but the water dispenser works great. Playing PIG with the spotlight is fun. I wouldn't pay the original $250.00 for this, but it is definitely worth the $100.00 we paid for it.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Hasbro Nerf Showtime Hoops Interactive Indoor Gaming System (Toy)

As soon as I began putting this hoop together, I regretted buying it. I had searched high and low for it because my son named it by name after he'd seen it on tv (kudos to Amazon for actually having what none of the stores did, though). But as I put it together, I realized that this would have to stay indoors because of all the electronics. It didn't fit in our basement, which has low ceilings, and I know I didn't want my son running around inside the house, or breaking windows or other breakables with the ball (even though it's a Nerf basketball). So what'd we do? We wound up putting it outside anyway, and wrapping it in a large tarp to protect the electronics that are on it.

The electronics on this are pretty neat, and I can see why my son asked for it. There is a strolling spotlight that roams the "court" while the kids play. There is also an announcer voice that commentates on the playing. The board keeps score, but only for one person--no way for it to break down score for teams. But when a basket is made, the crowd cheers, and the recording is abound with realistic sound effects. There is also an attachment in the back for an mp3 player or cd player, and in fact, the thing comes with a cd. There is a drink dispenser as well, which is a nice feature.

None of the above runs on batteries...it's all on electricity...so be prepared to have a long extension cord. The Nerf ball provided pretty much does NOT bounce. SO if you use the hoop for what it was apparently intended--repetetive free-throws--then the Nerf ball serves its purpose. But if you expect your young ones to actually play basketball in front of it, you need to replace it with a small sized youth basketball (which we happened to have--it fits perfectly)...unless, of course, you actually DO use this indoors as it's intended.

Bottom line--unless you have a spacious basement to put this sort of thing, DON'T BUY IT!! A regular hoop for your driveway will serve your young sportster much better, and will set you back FAR less financially than this one did to me.

Fun game. Delivery was incredibly fast. I ordered it Thursday before Christas and had it the next day. Only drawback is the ball that comes with it. Just a Nerf foam ball so not much bounce and the cover on ours came off after a few hours of use. We will buy a small inflatable, which will be better for dribbling.

I bought this for my two grandsons - 14 and 12. They were delighted and it was a huge hit. It was easily assembled and they have been having a great time with it. It was a little too tall for their finished basement so we set it up on an outside covered porch.
