The original X-Wing with superior detailing. There are many detail lines which make the vehicle look very realistic, along with the paint scratches. The R2-D2 unit in the slot is unremovable and faces the back, just like when it repairs Luke's in "A New Hope". I bought several of these transformers for my 6-year-old son, who is crazy about Star Wars. This review is from: Hasbro Star Wars Transformers - Luke and X-Wing Fighter (Toy)
I bought several of these transformers for my 6-year-old son, who is crazy about Star Wars. He loves them, but they vary in quality -- the Obi-Wan and Anakin transformers are sturdy, but General Grievous has many parts which come off easily, and parts of Luke Skywalker broke within a day. The Darth Vader transformer has held up well (my 2-year old has one of those too, and it has stood up to his handling) but it also has pieces which sometimes are hard to attach well. Still, my son loves these toys and even plays with the broken Luke transformer, though not as much as the others. My advice: buy Anakin or Obi-Wan but think twice about Luke and General Grievous.

2.0 out of 5 stars Breaks easily, November 17, 2006

My son was so excited to get this for his birthday. He was devastated when the leg broke off after rather gentle play within about 30min. We contacted Hasbro and they were very good about sending us a replacement. Unfortunately, the replacement's leg broke in the same place after about 5 minutes and my son was being very careful not to break it. It just isn't a sturdy toy. We also have Anakin, Darth Maul, and Obi Wan and so far, none have broken.

Avoid buying this toy. Though many of the other toys in the transformer line are reasonably sturdy, this one was exceptionally poor. The bond keeping the pilot together immediately broke. The arms and legs don't stay on very well, and after minimal regular handling, you can see stress fractures in the plastic in the joints. The light saber that the transformed robot was supposed to hold is too small for the robot to actually hold.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Hasbro Star Wars Transformers - Luke and X-Wing Fighter (Toy)
The original X-Wing with superior detailing. There are many detail lines which make the vehicle look very realistic, along with the paint scratches. The R2-D2 unit in the slot is unremovable and faces the back, just like when it repairs Luke's in "A New Hope". A miniature Luke, whose arms and feet move swing up and down, fits in the cockpit, though not a perfect fit, is a nice little bonus. There are four lasers, each on a wing foil, which fires, though you have to push the back with you're finger, other than be spring loaded. For some reason, the engines can swivel, up or down. There is landing gear, two on the lowerwings and one on the nose. A lightsaber is attached on the bottom of the ship, but may have a hard time staying there. The lightsaber is also blue, instead of movie green, but George Lucas planned for it to originaly be blue, so this may or may not be a nod to that.
The robot/Luke mode looks like a robot, though all of them do. The forearms, front body, hip area, and thighs are orange. The hands, rear thighs, and lower legs are black. The feet are mostly dark tan with a bit of white here and there. The rest of the toy is gray/dark gray. The sides of the nose of the vehicle form sorts of plates for the feet, which really don't belong. The shoulders have blades(wings) that are very wide, making it look like he can fly. Luke wears a helmet with a yellow visor and the Republic symbol on it. The back is where two of the foils connect, giving him another pair of wings. The laser cannons can be removed or kept on, thogh look out of place IMO. Luke can grasp one of the laser cannons, or the lightsaber, in each hand. My lightsaber has to be positioned just right to stay, and the right hand is loose, though this may just be mine. The Luke mini-figure fits in the chest.
Luke's foot broke while I was transforming him the first time. The foot has to rotate, and the hexagon peg just wouldn't let it. The joint is made of rubber, so I tried until it snapped. My dad fixed it, but I still have to be careful, and the end of the nose is slightly curved off to the side.
Overall, this is a decent figure, just be careful of the foot. I think the detail is superior to most others of its size, so I'm not even gonna try to detail it.

5.0 out of 5 stars For Fans, March 24, 2009

This review is from: Hasbro Star Wars Transformers - Luke and X-Wing Fighter (Toy)
Many of the reviews for this toy take aim with the durability. I will agree that this is not a toy intended for children. There are joints that are stiff (force it and it could break), and joints that look flimsy (the ankle rotation in particular seems to be a common complaint).

My model didn't have the ankle issue but did have the too-large-to-grip-lightsaber issue. You can work around this though, which is acceptable for display purposes.

Additionally, the transformatioon instructions did not perfectly match the capabilities of my model. It indicated some motions that were obviously not available, either due to revision of the toy post production or simply due to changes in the design process not reflected in the literature.

now this might sound like I hated this toy, but that can't be farther from the truth. It is just SO cool. The X-Wing includes some great detail, it just looks fabulous. And to top it off, it transforms. Seriously, how cool is that? the mini-figure fits into both the ship and robot modes, it comes with a lightsaber and makes me feel like I'm 8 all over again. What more could I ask for.

I am not an avid collector so I can't attest to this unit as being worthy of investment status, and I can't recommend it to parents for kids who will actually play with it. But to old Stars Wars and Transformers fans, I couldn't recommend it more.

Last point, try the Hasbro online store. Might get lucky.
