Here's an embarrassing thing- I love this helmet. And I'm in my 40's. I first saw it in a video on YouTube (MarkDayComedy) and was smitten. It actually fits the adult head, and is very adjustable with lots of straps inside the helmet. You have to get it positioned correctly, or the nose pad will sit very heavily on the bridge of your nose- which is not comfortable! But fidget around with the straps, and it will fit anyone. The eye sockets are golden in hue, and while you can see fine to stalk around the house, I certainly wouldn't recommend driving in it! The supplied voices are very clear. The helmet comes with well known Transformers phrases- "I AM OPTIMUS PRIME!"- and the microphone is adjustable so you can speak in to it and have your own robot voice boom out nicely. If someone is standing next to you, they can hear your voice as well, but that's a minor point. The battery casing is on top of the head, and covered by a snap on piece that I fear will break eventually, but what do you want for a little over 20 bucks? Small children will probably break the pointy bits off the top of the helmet first, but older children (10? depends on your kid) should be able to keep it in one piece. (UPDATE- HOLY COW??!! THIS IS SELLING FOR NEAR EIGHTY DOLLARS?!?!?! NOOOOOOO!!!! Look around for a better price! Wooo...) And if you don't have any makeup on and the postman or UPS guy comes to the door, you can always pop the helmet on and scare the heck out of him :)

I give this product 5 stars across the board. There are two versions of this helmet one that has Peter Cullins voice "the true Optimus Prime voice" and the other one with Gary Chalk I beleive who does the voice of Optimus Primal in Beast Wars. You can tell be the phrases next to the "Try Me", Peter Cullins "The Real Prime" voice will say "Real Movie Voice" and Gary Chalks' will say "Battle Phrases"

I am 43 years old and bought this for a Christmas present for my 4 year old. It arrived at the office today and I just had to open it to check it out and make sure there were batteries in it. This thing is awesome. I'm an officer and just could not resist putting the helmet on walking around my office making statements like "Halt, who goes there" and "get down on the ground with your hands behind your back". My peers of course told me to grow up, but they laughed and it was all in good fun as they called me Robocop.I think I made more sales for amazon today in my office alone. I know if I had this much fun with it my 4 year old should have a grand time. It is a large helmet that will fit an adult, but there are adjustable straps that should fit a child with no problem. It lacks padding inside and could be dangerous for a young child if the straps are not adjusted correctly. It is made of fairly strong plastic that has some angles inside the helmet. I will most likely add some padding from an old bicycle helmet. Knowing my child, he will get in some fictitious battle with his sister and she will probably conk him over the head (playing) and he might get hurt. You may have to supervise a young child while they wear this. Thats the only con I see with this. It is rec commended for ages 5+, but even for ages 5-10 this product can be potentially dangerous due to lack of padding inside. Overall, this is a well built product that should provide hours of fun. I purchased the Transformers DVD as well so my child can watch the move and get into the character. I think I will have more fun with this than he will, such is the life of a big kid ;)

This helmet/mask is really cool! We bought it for our 4 year old grandson (who just loves the Transformers), and we all played with it!! There are 3 buttons on the side--2 of them have pre recorded messages. The 3rd button actually changes your voice & makes it sound like Optimus Prime!

A well constructed and fun item. I got one for my 8 year old nephew and liked it so much I got one for my daughter. I often justify my purchases by saying it was for "the baby." Frankly, many of the baby's toys get played with by me! The toy is well made and I know she will grow into it...as for me...I like having it around to make guests wonder a bit.

Ahh the joy of toys that make noise. My children each received one of these for a gift from their grandmother at Christmas. Here are some bullet points to know before purchasing:- Does not work as a safety helmet, particularly on bikes and scooters. - Actually, helmets make riding bikes and scooters more dangerous because they apparently make mailboxes and bushes invisible to the wearer. - Voice box does not work after going into the tub, even if you were just playing that the transformers were fighting in the rain with the shower on. - Two helmets, when hit together while being worn by a 6 and 10 year old "head butting" cause cracks in the plastic and make the voice boxes create a lovely screeching crackling noise. - Helmets do not protect against younger brothers with large sticks - Though the voice boxes make a variety of noises, they can turn parents into raving lunatics after just 1 hour of being worn by a 6 year old. - 6 year olds apparently cannot see when wearing the helmet, and will create marks on your walls and doorframes from the "ricochet" they do while running through your home at top speed with the helmet on. - Tying a blanket around your neck to create a "cape" while wearing helmet still does not allow flight off of the landing on the staircase. Helmet does not protect against the "landing" from such an attempt either. Lucky for me (since I can't stand toys that make noise) the voice boxes on these were killed within the first month of ownership. They are now used as costuming and crash helmets by my not so bright children. For the price they are at now, if you can stand the noise until your kids kill it; these are great fun for little boys. (I haven't had the pleasure of testing on girls.)

Our five year old got this for his birthday and loves it. Not real keen on the programmed voice, but he is using the voice changer option to drive the rest of us to distraction. It makes for an especially lovely rendition of all the songs he learns at preschool - imagine "this little light of mine" and the like. All the time.He loves it though, and that's pretty much the point.

I really liked and enjoyed this one since i got the package i had the child smile on my face, but after i knew that was two versions of this i got really sad because i would really wanted to have the Peter Cullen version cause it really sounds like Optimus Prime you know what i mean, so... i really enjoy it but Cullen's version sounds really better.

Okay, even if you hate the movie, you should get this, whether you are a kid or an adult. Not only will it give you fits of nostalgia, but it has so many uses! If the movie is a hit, this will be a must-have for Halloween. If not, it is still fun (adults particularly seem to like it). You can use this to role play Transformer scenes or you can simply use it to...jump out and scare people. Works pretty well at driving dogs bonkers, especially if they're high strung (I am NOT advocating animal cruelty, just noticed it had this effect and took it off the offending person's head). The voices are really cool, too.

Unlike the Darth Vader helmet (which I also own) this actually takes your voice and converts it, so you mainly hear Optimus's voice and not your own.Voice is very loud if you want it to be, or quiet if you don't. Overall, it is the best voice changing helmet I could find. It is sized to fit almost everyone on this planet (I wear a 7 7/8ths hat and it fit, barely, but it did fit fine none the less). And the voice quality/conversion is excellent. |
