Pooch Packs Potent Portable Light Show,

I saw this little guy dancing to the music in a store, and the next thing you know, he had come home with me! idog is a real cutie. Though you could use him as an ipod mono speaker -- and yes, I consider the speaker pretty robust for such a diminutive pooch -- I think he shines the brightest as a palm-sized portable light show for your music. The LED light display on his face is something to see, with a variety of colors and animated patterns that adapt to the music you play, and from time to time idog will wag his head and raise or lower his ears in time to the beat. Throw in the doggy behavior -- he mopes if you leave him alone without music and growls when you turn him off -- and idog is a most amusing desktop companion. I am definitely looking forward to the idog bags, as it would be fun to bring him to a party, and the bags look like they would give his head the support he needs to travel without injury. I also saw a picture of the mini-mutt wearing one of his "chill sets" -- a hat, ear muffs, and sweater to ward off the cold weather -- and it was hilarious to be sure. I use rechargeable AAA batteries in idog and get hours of use on a charge. A great little pal for all the music lovers on your shopping list!

Fun little iPod (or other portable music player) speaker/accessory!,

I did some research and found that the American Hasbro version is not as fancy (meaning "interactive") as the original Japanese Sega version. Even so, the iDog proves to be a fun little accessory for your iPod. Be forewarned - if you're looking for a robotic dog with full interactive capabilities (e.g. Aibo or iCybie), then keep looking. All this dog does is shake its head, blink its lights, and make some noise - it doesn't even walk around. Speaker quality is okay, at best. Like I said: the iDog is just for fun!

I bought the iDog just because it was so darned cute, and "trick". Though I read a review somewhere that the speaker "bites", it's just right for private listening while I'm reading or paying bills, instead of using the house stereo and making everyone else listen to my personal music. I move iDog from bedroom nightstand to kitchen, hook it up to my XM receiver, walk it down to the basement while folding laundry, or out to the yard. "He" is loud enough to be heard rooms away at top volume (with surprisingly little distortion), but subtle enough at very low volume to be private - and not disturb the neighbors. When my granddaughter listens I'm not worried she'll stick the earphones in and deafen herself. He does "bark" once in a while, a serious source of amusement when the real dogs in the house look at iDog with that tilted-head, ears-up look of "Say what?"
To watch iDog adjust the motion and lights to classical, then hard rock, then to Bill Cosby or The Smothers Brothers.... it's a riot! The batteries have lasted through an amazing number of hours of constant play with no sign of fading. It doesn't seem that a volume control on the dog itself would be convenient; it's easier to grab your iPod or XM remote and adjust the volume. As long as you don't delude yourself that it's a replacement for your $2,000 home stereo system you'll have fun with iDog.

Cute as a Button!,

I-Dog is so fun to use! All you have to do is plug the included cable into your digital player's headphone port and I-Dog will play your music through a tiny internal speaker. I-Dog's face will light up with various patterns and colored lights depending on what type of music you play. His tail serves as a mute button, but be careful because he doesn't like you touching too often! I-Dog will get sad if you don't give him any music to listen to. If you don't have a digital player, you can set I-dog by your boombox or other music device and he can "hear" that way. There are only two reasons why I didn't give I-Dog 5 stars: (1) The internal speaker isn't very loud, so you have to have your music player turned up quite high, and (2) the battery cover on I-Dog's back leg is really hard to get off. You will definitely need some kind of tiny screwdriver to get it off.

My 11 year old received this for his birthday. He had been saving money for an ipod and we bought this to go along with it. He can't get enough of this toy. It sits on his desk and sways its head when he is doing homework and it makes the cutest noises. Even my 5 year old will sit for hours and watch it. It's smaller than I thought it would be, but seems pretty durable and works really well. Quite a hit for that in between age!

I recently got an iDog, wanting to see what all the excitement was about. It turns out that is is a fun little toy to put next to your stereo. It flashes lights in tune with whatever music you have playing and shakes its head and ears as well. I found I didn't use the built-in speaker too much when it was with my regular stereo, but it works well when you plug it into an iPod or other portable device. It certainly won't revolutionize your music system, but it's a fun little toy and a welcome diversion from work or whatever else you have going on while listening to your music. It picked up the music coming from my stereo at a pretty good range. This is an especially great toy for young children. It gives them something to look at while playing music and can be a great tool to introduce kids to any sort of music. It also seems pretty durable and I've had no problems at all with it. It also features a few interactive modes. You can "pet" it by covering a light sensor on the top of its head, and you can push its nose to play with it as well. It also will play back the type of music you lisen to the most if you double-tap the nose. That was an interesting little feature since my collection is fairly ecclectic and it was interesting to see how that changed. This a great buy for you if you have small children, or if you're like me and just like little robotic gadgets to go along with your other electronics.

Fun, Cheap Toy for your I-Pod,
By
This review is from: Hasbro i-Dog Robotic Music Loving Canine - White (Toy)
I've been trying to get some sort of way to listen to my I-Pod without the earbuds. I was not going to spend $100 bucks on another boom box just for I-Pods. So it caught my attention while I was in Herbergers and noticed I could listen to music through the dog. It was cute so I grabbed it. You have to put two AA batteries in the dog's leg. Then you just plug in your I-Pod and instant music. The sound isn't as good as with a stereo system which makes this good for me since I live in a condo and do not want to make a lot of noise. The dog is cute and its head turns and its ears go up and down to the beat of the music. There are also lights that go on and off to the beat of the music too. It also cries and barks. That kinda gets annoying after awhile. It demands attention. And if you pull its tail it growls. You control the songs and volume through your I-Pod. This is a cute cheap way to listen to your I-Pod without spending a lot of money or a lot of hassle.

I'm surprised that I-Dog is as popular as it is. I thought people would see something ike this (a cute dancing dog) as an acecssory for kids and chicks. This is really not a replacement for a speaker -- it's an interactive companion that is just right for music lovers and the techno-savvy. Even guys can use it w/o worrying about seeming girly. It's a great unisex and age-defying gift. Basically, the doggie dances and flashes lights to your music and ou can 'pet' it. It's like a 3D Tamgotchi but not quite as intelligent, which also means you don't have to expend a lot (minimal) energy to interact with it. Which, if you think this is cute, you will definitely want to pet it once in a while.
The price is right, too. I bought one for myself for my birthday, am happy with my purchase, and don't feel guilty. I love music, I love anime, I love the net, I love dolls and plushies and collectibles -- this toy is perfect for me. The i-dog is sophisticated and sleek enough to pass as not a 'toy' and veers into gadget territory. It honestly doesn't do much but is a kick to have on your desk. I like it.

I just got an iDog and I love it! It lights up according to the kind of music you are listening to. It also moves its' head and ears. You can see if iDog is happy or sad by the sequence the lights move when you push his nose twice.
Also, you do not have to have an iPod to play with iDog. All you have to have is a stereo or some kind of music player. If you put iDog next to a speaker (and turn the volume up louder than normal) he will move and act normally. For those of you who would like to use an iPod, you just plug in the cord (included in the box)to the iPod and to the iDog. It's so easy! You won't have a problem with it. :) There is nothing negative about iDog. iDog is cute, fun (as mentioned in the title)and you won't ever get tired of watching him move his head to the music. You will love it!! I sure do! Have fun! (...)

I'm 50 and I love my i-pod and my i-dog. My grandson is 3 and he can hook it up and loves to watch it. I teach school and take it with me- my students love it--- and you don't have to walk it or clean up poop. By the way I love cats, but i'm not sure what the love of cats has to do with reviewing this toy- although that sure seemed important to alot of people. my cat is not real sure about the i-dog, but does not hiss at it- so I think they'll get along.
great toy-- dawn |
