Great way to make changes in your eating habits,

I bought this book because someone close to me needed to get his sodium down immediately. I've made several recipes from the book: turkey chilli, chicken tagine, coq au vin, chicken paprika, and several appetizers and desserts. Generally, the recipes are quite good-- guests at your table will not be able to tell the difference. I haven't had as much luck with the desserts, but if you are looking for really good recipes that don't taste like wallpaper paste, this is the book. I really like the extensive appendices of information on how to locate low sodium products and adapt your own recipes. I definitely recommend this. I did have to buy quite a collection of spices and cooking wines to flavor food, but now that I have all that, most recipes are easy to put together. Warning: when she says spicy, she means it! She has a tongue of steel. I've learned to back off the cayenne and Tabasco in her recipes.

This a no-nonsense approach to reducing your sodium intake, even suggesting brands that offer low and no sodium products. After having a high blood pressure reading recently, I started looking for ways to reduce my sodium intake. This book was much better than others I looked at. The recipes are easy to follow and the food that you make with them is very good. What more do you want?

I love salt. I do not like the low-sodium diet that I must follow. I bought most of the low salt cook books that Amazon offers. I think this is the best of the group. It has good recipes, excellent resources and good advice. The problem I had was the book literally fell apart. It is a perfect bound book and the glue appears to have been applied at a temperature too low to properly adhere. This happened after little use and fortunately only 26 days after I received it. It is on its way back to Amazon for replacement. I hope I have better luck with the next one. I would rate the content 5 stars.

The recipes in this book are excellent. I've tried several and didn't have to run to the store to find "x" ingredients that I didn't already have at home. Two things help replace the "salty" taste in our food - vinegar and/or mustard. Rice vinegar with 0 mg of sodium works well, as does basalmic vinegar but it doesn't work in all dishes. A small amount of lower-sodium Dijon mustard can be substituted in many dishes, including chili, in which I use both a variety of vinegars and mustard. Because my husband has CHF, I need to keep the sodium level in his food as low as possible, between 600mg. and 1000 mg. daily. It's taken over 3 months to lose the craving for salt that he and I acquired decades ago; it's not easy, but it can be done. The recipes in this book were very useful as are some of the tips by the author. I use this book several times a week.

The Hasty Gourmet Low Salt Favorites is exactly what it says it is. The recipes are easy to make, don't take a lot of prep time, and in spite of their low sodium content, are a delight for the palate. It's a must-have for those whose sodium intake is restricted, but still want to enjoy preparing and eating meals that take no more fuss or bother than others. The selection of items is varied enough so that even the most picky eater would find meals that please their taste buds. Perhaps the best review is simply to say that in our home it gets used often!

This book is a great resource for both recipes, reduced salt products, and general information on making your diet both healthy and tasty. I've been quite pleased with the recipes in this book and have found most of them to be "easy keepers". It has helped me improve my eating habits and still have tasty meals. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys food and wants to stay healthy. Enjoy.
