2.0 out of 5 stars Most not Low Carb as written...but pretty pictures July 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I cringe to have to leave such a low rating, but let me explain why.

I am an experienced low carber and have a huge cache of several hundred low carb recipes I've written or reworked from traditional high-carb recipes. I cannot eat traditional high-carbohydrate foods any longer due to health reasons, yet I never stopped craving delicious food simply because I couldn't eat a ton of sugar and flour any more. Sometimes it takes amazing feats of reworking and creativity to make a traditional recipe work for a low-carbohydrate lifestyle, but most of the time it can be done. These recipes are simple enough that the substitutions could be seamless....

The photography is appealing and enticing, each dish looks amazing. But it's reading the ingredients that really made me wonder what in the....? These ingredients are used, and they are by no stretch of the imagination low carbohydrate: Rice, hamburger buns, kaiser rolls, all purpose flour, flour tortillas, sugar, brown sugar, bread crumbs, maple syrup, ketchup, potato chips, honey, cornstarch, corn flakes, pineapple/orange marmalade. Sure, *I* could figure out substitutes for any of these items, but if I were going to rework all the recipes, I may as well get an author credit! If I wanted to rework recipes I would raid my own huge stash, I should not have to do it to a book that is selling itself as low carbohydrate. If I buy a book that is advertised as low-carbohydrate, then I don't expect that I'll have to reformulate anything to make it fit my desired eating plan. To be fair I took advantage of a free copy of the book when Prime offered it, but I would have purchased it due to the title/cover and been really angry, so in the interest of full disclosure I think it's important to lay out what this book is, and isn't.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy to find this resource November 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Years ago I went on the Atkins diet and lost weight. I began adding carbohydrates until I was certain what my maximum daily allowed kept me at my desired weight. I pretty much eat anything I want and as long as the total carb count is within my limits my weight stays the same. I was so excited to find this book . These recipes are so delicious.
If you have a very busy lifestyle but are committed to cooking dinners that taste good for your whole family, buy this book. It is definitely worth adding to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very tasty recipes November 2, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
It is valuable for my health and my weight to monitor my carbohydrate intake. I am not a radical low carb dieter but do search for recipes that are delicious, easy to prepare yet keep this critical factor in mind. These dishes are sooooo good and I can prepare them quickly even with my very busy schedule. There is a good variety and even my kids like them.

They all have less than 30 grams of carbohydrates. That is easy to fit into my total permitted daily count. One of my favorites is South of the Border Chicken with Black Bean Salsa. Even the Ultimate Cheeseburger, with a whole wheat bun, is only 28 grams of carbs. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for really good tasting dinners that can be made quickly and still keep their carbohydrate count down.

Finally, a low-carb cookbook that combines great tasting food that is also quick to prepare! The Hasty Tasty Low Carb cookbook is just what I have been looking for after sifting through literally hundreds of diet cookbooks in the bookstore.
