Try to look at it first,
This review is from: Hat, Mittens, and Scarves Deck: 25 Cool and Cozy Projects (Cards)
I was able to look through this deck at a local Barnes and Noble. The patterns are nice and classic. If you have no other books for these types of patterns, this may be a good buy. If you already have a lot of this type of stuff, you may not need this. I'd really try to look through it first.
Personally, I may end up getting it, but not for the almost $17 Amazon price. If I could find it cheaper, I'd probably pick it up, but since I do have other patterns for these things, it's just not worth that price to me. I give it 4 stars because the patterns are classic and do look nice.

Disappointed,

I purchased this set of cards about a month and a half ago and am very disappointed in it. The projects are boring and uninteresting. There aren't even many patterns for the money. I wish I'd been able to examine this one before buying ... I'd never have made the purchase.

the patterns are very easy to follow unlike a lot of other patterns that I have. They are classic yet still cute and great for intermediate knitters who are just starting to read patterns. you will need to know the very basics before you attempt these patterns but they are not difficult to follow and will help you to understand the basic structures of making shapes beyond flat knits. also the cards are handy and you don't have to take the entire box along - just take the card of the pattern with you and you can knit on the go. the box is very nice as well. I wish that I could find more patterns written by ms. Tung.

Very beautiful book but pattern are very complicate to follow for beginners, not very extended explanations, however for advance users it may be a very interesting compilation of ideas.

I would NOT recommend that beginners get this deck unless they truly know increasing, decreasing, and yarn overs. Other than that, the patterns are simple and classic for everyday wear.

A Knitting Card Deck that will stay around for a long time!,

This review is from: Hat, Mittens, and Scarves Deck: 25 Cool and Cozy Projects (Cards)
I've been pretty leery of knitty card decks - unable to look thru project cards, the more abbreviated format than a book, will I like most of the projects, do I really need the amount of projects offered (in this deck - 25)?
This set pleasantly surprised me as it has a nice variety of classically styled hats, scarves, gloves/mittens for different ages. I really like the range of difficulty and range of items. The items aren't frumpy - they're designed by a wonderful,long-time knitting designer, Andrea Tung. If you're short on time or have more time to knit something complex (eg: cables) this deck has the knitter covered well!

Purchased these knitting patterns and when it arrived was thrilled to see how different this was. Came in a box with sturdy and separate instructions for several great items to make. Just love it ! Thank you for having this choice available for shoppers like me !

Inaccuracies,
This review is from: Hat, Mittens, and Scarves Deck: 25 Cool and Cozy Projects (Cards)
I am disappointed in the quality of the instructions for these projects. They are inaccurate to say the least.
All of the mittens patterns just direct the knitter to make two, with no right or left differentiation. If one follows the Thermal Mittens instructions, the result will be two right hand mittens. Also in this pattern the instructions for the thumb state to knit all rounds, but one should instead use the thermal stitch pattern for the thumb for it to be consistent with the body of the mitten. Lastly, the stitch count is wrong at the end of the K2tog round at the completion of the thumb. The pattern instructions for Irina Mesh Scarf will not work. For a pattern that is only 2 rows, it seems like it would have been fairly easy to write it correctly! Row 1 should end with K1, as should row 2. The repeat should be only row 2 and not rows 1 and 2. My set included 2 cards with the Harajuku Scarf. I wonder if I am missing another pattern, since there were two of this one. There are several other patterns that I'd like to try, but my confidence level is low: I'm concerned about mistakes in the instructions. Why are the odds that the two that I've chosen to make are the only ones with errors? |
