I needed larger sized hats. I made the sun hat and the beach hat. The directions are right, you must use heavy weight interfacing for the brims. I had to online that item. Very nice hats that fit. I am ready for Saratoga!!

Anyone with basic sewing skills and an interest in head coverings would find this a great value. This book would be a great source for handmade gifts. Practical to high-fashion; men, children, and babies are not neglected. Includes foldout pattern sheet.

Bought this book at a local Quilt Shop (which I thought was an odd place to discover it.) I LOVE IT!!! It is a great resource & reference book. It is full of patterns and lots of detailed, step-by-step photos too!

This book contains a great variety of projects, from cute kids hats to fancy fashion hats for women. Some of the women's fashion hats have a fabulous vintage feel and a creative sewer could play around with different fabric and embellishments to personalize the look. It is a great idea book for people interested in try out hat making, and for the home sewer who wants to make some great projects. I found a number of projects that I would make for myself, plus a couple for gifts for my family and friends. All the patterns are included and need to be photocopied and enlarged for use. It does not explain how to design and draft hat patterns.

The instructions are good, with step by step pictures for most of them. My major complaint is that there was only one photo of the finished hat for each project, and some of them would have benefited from multiple views to help with the construction and to give a better idea of what the finished hat would look like.

This book does not explain traditional millinery techniques, and is NOT a good technical reference for a beginner milliner. However, I would recommend beginning milliners to get it out of their local library as a look book for ideas for shapes and embellishment and use of fabrics.
