I always try to fix my divots on greens. My grandpa always said "fix yours, then fix one other". I played last week and no one was behind me, and because it's a public course and we're nearing the end of the season, no one was fixing their divots. So, I had ample opportunity to try this thing out!
It's a big thing - bigger and heavier than any divot fixer you've owned before. It's easy to find in your pocket full of tees because it's so large and heavy.
It's super surdy. Solid steel. I thought the bottle-opener part would not allow me to easily press the divot fixer down to repair a divot, but it didn't interfere that much. I was still able to press down to repair divots.
The tongs are huge - and wide - too wide, if you ask me. Because the tongs are so long, and because this thing is so sturdy, I found I could fix most divots with just one press, instead of having to prop up multiple sides of the divot. In doing so, it works OK. I don't think it's terribly gentle. It has these giant prongs and they leave sizable holes in the ground when you're done. I digs up quite a bit of ground so it's not as easy to tamp it back to be a smooth surface again. But it works OK. I mean I play public courses and at least I'm fixing my divots no matter what.
The ball marker stays on sturdily enough. I thought for sure it would fall off because that's where your thumb goes when you're prying out a divot. But it never fell off or got lost.
The bottle opener is nice to have on hand.Read more ›
I can't see using the bottle cap opener much since I don't usually have bottled beverages on the course, but if you are a cigar smoker, the same thing functions as that. The tool also has a heft most others lack - made of a thick, polished metal, it definitely has a solid feel in your hands.
However, my favorite aspect of this tool is as a unique bottle and can opener. It's unique because there is a cleverly placed magnet which grabs your bottle cap so it doesn't fall! This is fabulous! I live in the land of the long-neck Shiner and I hate having to get down on my hands and knees to retrieve stray bottle caps after a party. This bottle opener will end all that.
It's made of metal and is satisfyingly hefty for it's size. I wish it came in a little pouch because the magnetic ball marker will likely get lost if I don't out it in something but hey, that's what freezer baggies were invented for, right?
I think this would make a useful little gift for a golfer and even occasional, social golfers like myself will love the bottle opener feature.
For me, this is a great bottle opener that looks good at my bar, and does a great job at opening bottles. I really like the little magnet that catches the bottle cap for you. As a bottle opener, it gets 5 stars. It is solid and looks great in the bar. They say it is also a can opener, but I don't really see that. They must just be referring to its ability to pry open a soda or beer can tab for which it is fine at, but so is my finger..
As a ball market it isn't worth the effort. The marker is kind-of cheesy, and worst of all it is really hard to get off. Prying the ball marker off the tool is nearly impossible.
Cigar holder and club rest are fake features in my opinion. Silly. A pint glass or golf cart can be a cigar holder and club rest too, but you don't see anyone marketing pint glasses or golf carts as "3-in-1" devices. Maybe you can see yourself sticking this thing in the ground, so your putter's grip doesn't get wet, but I can't.
It works fine as a divot tool. I personally prefer things with smaller prongs, or just using a tee. If had an integrated clip to attach it to my belt or to my bag's strap, it might be more appealing to me as a divot tool, and in general. As it is, I'm not going to carry something this heavy and pointy around in my pocket while I play. If I stick it in a pouch on my golf bag I'll probably just forget that its in there and never use it again. For me, its place is in the bar.
Bottle Opener: 5 stars
Ball Marker: 1 star
Can Opener: 3 stars
Cigar, club, and sand rake holder: 2 stars
