Book Description

September 12, 2003
Liberal political humorist JasonJohnson channels left-wing enmity of George W. Bush into biting politicalsatire, sometimes caustic, often enlightening, and always funny. His targetscross the political spectrum, and his irreverent, controversial views willengage and offend virtually everyone. Aside from sniping at the conservativeright, Johnson is also a debunker, shedding light where there once wasignorance. Religion, teen sex, abortion, gun control, gay rights, and humanextinction are just some of the not-so-serious subjects on which he gives hiswitty and unflinching spin. This collection of essays proves that Johnson'sreputation for savagely hilarious political commentary is well deserved.

3.0 out of 5 stars Oh, It's Okay..., September 26, 2003

This review is from: I Hate Bush and So Do You (Paperback)
Johnson's essays are often funny, if wildly uneven. He steals styles (and sometimes jokes!) from Al Franken, Bill Maher, Dennis Miller, Dave Barry, to name a few. Unfortunately, he's not as funny as any of those writers, but he does make me chuckle from time to time. He's definitely on the pitbull side of liberalism (doesn't shy away from jokes about those drunken Bush daughters, for example). Although mostly about Bush, there are essays of varying topics (a lot of the early ones deal a lot with then-Gov. Jesse Ventura). As with all essay collections, I suppose, some are funnier than others and are better in part than in whole. But some lines bring it home for me: "The Pope says clones won't have a human soul, so what happens if we clone James Brown? Will he wear turtlenecks and belt out You Light Up My Life?" Funny. Wish there were a lot more lines like that, but that's funny.

1.0 out of 5 stars Written like another disgruntled, liberal postman, May 29, 2004
By
This review is from: I Hate Bush and So Do You (Paperback)
Johnson shows his true liberal colors in this tacky, rinky-dink joke of a book. He is a perfect example of an author who tries too hard to be funny. His jokes are written in a "I think making Bush jokes are funny and so should you" fashion. He takes pleasure in ridiculing other authors without thoroughly reading their books all the way through (reading the Introduction & About the Author segments excluded).
Johnson's "cheap" book cover and writing style are a perfect example of an amature (oops, sorry Johnson, that was a "dumbed-down" typo)writer that lacks creativity and conviction. Is it worth your time to purchase this book? Not really. If you like laughing at silly "I hate Bush" books then by all means buy it. The cheesy cover is a dead give-away to a shallow book. Johnson's writing style is one of an angry move-on.org fan. He is a great example of someone who lives in a liberal dreamworld.
Personally, I think it's a waste of a perfectly good tree. One last word of advice to this disgruntled postman. Never write a crappy review of another author's work without actually reading it. Also, Johnson needs to learn the difference between factual data and "so-called" fire and brimstone hate speech. If he took the time to do some actual research, he would clearly see that there is quite a difference between the 2. (Oops, did it again. I meant two.) Sorry Johnson, please don't make fun of my writing.
