This book gives basic ways to attempt to find "workarounds" to some of the most madding parts of Windows 8. This was the first book I purchased to try to make my way through the "Metro" desktop. Most other books about this subject that I have purchased don't really give much better advise on Microsoft's attempt to create a competitor to the Apple iPad. Even some of the functionality of the previous Desktop are missing and apparently Microsoft is not in any hurry to resolve these issues. There are times when a tablet is useful and times when the previous windows desktop are needed but at this time I have not seen ANY tablet OS that fits the bill for both casual and power user of a personal computer.

5.0 out of 5 stars I do hate windows 8! March 2, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have been frustrated with Windows 8 for a year now. I have tried different books but still hated it. This book made it so that I might still hate it but now I can deal with it. Jone's gives a lot of strategy's for how to deal with this impossible program. I can now use Windows 8 with some amount of ease. I have recommended this book to other people and they have found it equally as useful. All I can say is that if you have found Windows 8 to be a difficult program this is your best bet not to want to totally give up on it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Eased my bewilderment March 19, 2014

This is a useful guide for one returning to Windows after eight years with Mac (Windows 8.1 looks way different from Windows XP Pro). Wish I'd read this before buying the new laptop - would have pungled up another $100 for a touchscreen.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Hate Windows 8 Too August 8, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
My new PC came with Windows 8 instead of 7, and I was really frustrated with it. This book offers some great tips as well as useful apps and programs that will allow me to customize it enough to reduce some of my frustrations. If you have Windows 8 and are frustrated too, read this book and implement many of the tips. They will really help.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have Windows 8 August 7, 2014

I really do hate Windows 8 also. Whenever people in school for their bachelors degree in computer science have trouble installing software with Windows 8 and the class comes to a screeching halt... something is wrong! Windows 7 users take a coffee break for 10 minutes.
