Mary Hays becomes Molly Pitcher,
By perhapsme (Sunnyvale but stuck in Sacramento) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hatful of Gold (Hardcover)
This is a story about Mary Ludwig Hays who at the age of 21 became a heroine. During the AMerican Revolution she served as a pitcher girl (and therefore earned the nickname 'Molly Pitcher') and also helped move the wounded from the battlefield. WHen her husband fell from a stroke, she took his place at the cannon. In reward for her bravery she received a 'hatful of gold'-and silver coins. I got this book from my middle school library but haven't been able to find it anywhere else.
