This book by Lillian Baker is the lowest priced and least sought after of her hatpin guides. However, after making the effort to borrow the Collectors Encyclopedia of Hatpins and Hatpin Holders through an inter-library loan, which is considered the best and which sells for a very high price, I was disappointed with the latter and prefer the former. My reason for wanting a book on hatpins was mostly for the illustrations showing the variety of their beauty. The Collectors Encyclopedia may have more informative text, but the photos are very poor in my opinion and don't show that much out of the ordinary in artisty beyond the basic bead on the end of a stick. They are all group photos with farther away views and the colors are faded. I felt that this book has a better variety of hatpins to just look at and admire, and I am inspired to pick it up and look at it again, where I do not feel that way about the Collector's Encyclopedia and if feels more like a drudgery to look at it. There are beautiful enamels shown in this guide as well as others. I think this is definitely a worthwhile book on hatpins to add to your library. I must admit I have not studied the text as of yet and may not until I have specific need.

This book is okay. Somehow I expected the pictures to be better and the information to be a little more up to date. I was wrong.
