Creativity and being unique compared to the majority of general rock bands today. Joe Barresi did a killer job with album. It's going to be great. Sci Fi crimes, was a bit bland compared to what this album will sound like.
1st album was too raw and lacked catchy hooks. Full of repetitive guitar riffs, 2nd & 3rd album Wonder what's next & this type of thinking are my fav, 4 or 5 incredible tracks on each album. 3rd & 4th, Vena Sera, Sci-fi were equally disappointing with only 1 fav track on each, (Safewaters, and shameful metaphors). These last 2 albums were just melodies. To me they lacked emotion. I didn't get that "rush" feeling while listening to them, (with the exception of the 2 tracks I mentioned). I'm looking forward to this album in hopes that they are more like the first 2. Fav tracks on those: Comfy liar, send the pain, still running, breach birth, Panic Prone (fav chevelle song).
Saw them live in Wantagh, NY about 2 years ago, yeah they rocked live.
Aside from it sounding like the past 4 albums, I don't really have any expectations. I hope it's better than Sci Fi Crimes, which was my least favorite. Point #1 would be close, but at least that one had its own charm to it, and was different than their other albums, so I have to rate that ahead of Sci Fi Crimes. I know it's not popular amongst fans, but Vena Sera is my favorite album of their's by a long shot. Each album has had its stand out tracks, but to me that one really grew on me to where the only song I thought of as filler was the opening track, and even that has its moments of greatness. So I hope this will be as good to me as Vena Sera, but not at all the same album.
I have been a fan since Wonder What's Next came out. That remains my favorite along with Vena Sera right behind it. I agree with those who say Vena Sera was their heaviest. The songs definitely came out louder and I loved the production of it. This Type Of Thinking Could Do Us In was a great album as well with The Clincher probably being my favorite Chevelle song (I say probably because it's hard to pick a favorite). Sci-Fi Crimes was good but not as good as the previous three. I did like some of the experimentation they used on that album like "Fell Into Your Shoes". The only album I don't care for is Point #1. I just can't get into it at all. The songs didn't stand out to me at all and the production wasn't good. Aside from what I think of their other albums, when I first heard Face To The Floor I was disappointed on first listen. It didn't sound interesting like previous first singles like Jars or Well Enough Alone. However, as I listened to it a couple more times, I began to really like the song. I'm sure this album will be classic Chevelle. I will be picking this one up the day it comes out.
@CraigPW1984 , I find that it sometimes takes me acouple of times of listening to a song of theirs before it grows on me... ... I really couldnt connect with much on Sci -fi Crimes.. Regardless a Awesome Band and cant wait for Hats off.....
Hi everyone! Just wanted to add in my little two sense to this great topic. Chevelle is an amazing band. They are, indeed fantastic live as well. One of my personal favorites that I haven't heard enyone here mention yet is Anti-Saint. That song rocks! Vena Sera is a solid album. I like the fact that they continue to experiment with each, new album. Keeps me more intrigued. Most bands these days just continue to sound exactly the same with every album released and that tends to get old real fast. Hat's off for sure! :)
I just listened to the entire Album, and I must say that it is some of there best work since This type of thing could do us in! I sample most of my music from tpb before I buy it. Money's hard to come by nowadays so using the internet to its full advantage is not a crime IMO, but I always pick up my favorite bands disc's when they hit the shelf, so that being said, I hope everyone enjoys the latest from Chevelle. There awesome!!!
Just listened to the album. I'll have to listen to it a few more times. It's definitely a good album. Some songs are good right off the bat such as Face To The Floor and Clones and others. But there are others that I'm finding harder to digest and that will have to grow on me with a few more listens, specifically Envy and Revenge. It's definitely a good album but like other reviews I write albums I will be giving this more time. A lot of people, websites, and articles have been saying this is their best work since This Type Of Thinking but wow. Have they not listened to Vena Sera or Sci-Fi Crimes? They were both amazing albums as well. I will give this album more listens and I will definitely be buying it because I've enjoyed Chevelle since The Red first came out. This new album is definitely their most melodic that's for sure and the melodies, vocals, guitars, and drums are all great. But one thing that is missing from this album is even a few screams.
I have to ask... what you like about Sci-Fi Crimes? I tried, and tried to get into it.. but it just didnt grow on me like Vena Sera..... It felt lost and disconnected from the band on Sci-fi Crimes...maybe I was comparing to V/S... but I am always interested in what people enjoyed on Sci-Fi Crimes.
Sci-Fi Crimes did have to grow on me a little. I enjoyed Jars instantly when I first heard it, but a couple others, like ones I mentioned on this new album, did have to grow on me. Mexican Sun, Sleep Apnea, and A New Momentum were definitely tunes I liked instantly. I know some people didn't get into but I thought it was great nonetheless. I thought it was an interesting album. I was surprised Shameless Metaphors didn't become the big hit I thought it would. Anyways, I'd probably rank Sci-Fi Crimes 4th out of the 5 Chevelle albums. Even though it's a great album it's difficult to place it any higher than Wonder What's Next, This Type Of Thinking, or Vena Sera. I can't rank this album yet because I need to listen to it more.
This Type of Thinking is still my favorite Chevelle album. Love every track except for the questionable Bend the Bracket. I keep buying every album they release hoping for the magic to return. Sadly, every time, all I get is a flicker of what they were but that isn't enough. I'll probably get this one too knowing I'll have disappointment.
