No more waiting for the hammock to dry after it rains before you lay back into soothing comfort; this decorative hammock is constructed of patented DuraCord material for strength and fast-drying. Built to look as good as it is comfortable, the hammock’s body is solution-dyed, so colors are built in for years of good looks even with heavy sun exposure. The material also resists stains and mildew for less maintenance. On top of being as hardy as it is, the Duracord material is unsurpassed in comfort, offering a cozy, cotton-like feel. The hammock’s spreader bars are made from richly grained hardwoods harvested in a certifiably sustainable fashion.

Supporting up to 450 pounds and with plenty of surface space for two people, the body of the hammock is 55 inches by 82 inches and the total hanging length is 13 feet. And, the hammock’s zinc-plated hardware won’t rust during outdoor use. The official Hatteras Hammocks logo is branded on each spreader bar and graces the solid Cumaru wood. The spreaders are triple dipped in marine spar varnish to strengthen their resistance to degradation from the harsh elements. Nothing’s cozier than a quilted hammock at the beach, the campsite or just in the backyard! The hammock attaches to any sturdy tree with ease with the included chains and hooks, though a variety of stylish hammock stands are also available, as well as pillows and more. Hatteras backs the purchase with a 1-year limited warranty.

I suppose I was much too optimistic to think that I could get the whole set for this price, but the picture shows a big wood stand and there was no disclaimer "stand not included," so I bought it. On the other hand, BJs has hammocks (not nearly as nice) including (metal) stands for $99 so I don't think I was unreasonably naive.

In any event, the hammock itself is quite nice, albeit a bit pricey (for just a hammock). For this price, the hardware should be stainless - it is just galvanized steel. (Unless you are hanging from trees, you won't even use that hardware since your stand will probably include its own.) One star off, and of course one star off for not clarifying to buyers that the stand is not included.

P.S. If you're buying a stand as well, read those reviews (including mine!) carefully. For example, the stand shown in the image accompanying this hammock did not fare so well in the reviews.

1/21/14 update: well it took them a year and a half but as of this writing, the product page finally shows a hammock and not a stand that isn't included.

This hammock is made from solid, durable material with a soft, cotton-like feel. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to purchase a hammock that will last a long time. The oatmeal color is a very neutral, it is not too dark and looks more natural and balanced than the bleached white available with other brands.
About the length:
Nearly all hammocks on the market are 13 feet long, and this one is also advertised as such. I measured my wooden stand and it is exactly 13 feet long, however, when I began using the hammock, it became too long/too loose after it broke in. I don't think this is necessarily a problem with the hammock, but a problem in general for people who have a combination of: 1. a wooden stand which bends slightly under weight; 2. a low stand which will not keep you hanging if the hammock becomes too loose 3. heavy use/use by more than 1 person at a time. My recommendations to people experiencing these problems is to either shop for slightly shorter hammocks or hammocks made from polyester (these are tighter), or to shorten the hammock by tying knots around one or both ends of the hammock, where the ropes come together.

I ordered the hammock for my husband for Father's Day. It wasn't shipped out until 6 days after my purchase which made it late. The Hammock itself looks really nice and sturdy! When I pulled it out of the box there was no stand. The listing shows the picture of the whole thing including the stand and no where in the listing does it say that the stand is not included! I was very disappointed! I should have read the prior reviews!

We had owned a Hatteras hammock years ago, and it had lasted almost 20 years. This was the first place I went to find a new one for our new deck. This time we're trying the new dura-cord rope. It is just as soft as the cotton and it should wear even longer. Great product ~ very comfortable!

I have owned a hammock costing much more than this one. The build quality of the Hatteras hammock is comparable. In addition, the duracord rope is much nicer to the touch. Nice quality for the money.

We've had this for about a year and it still is wonderful. The quality is very good. We will definitely purchase again when this one eventually wears out, but I think that won't be soon! We leave it out all season and it dries quickly from rain and hasn't discolored at all.

This is my 3rd Hattera Hammock. The first 2 have been cotton and, since I leave them out from April to October, have lasted about 4 years each. The first gave out when the cotton rotted out, the second when the spreader bar rotted. I am hoping for better from the duracord construction. I ordered one polyester hammock but sent it back the next day as it is so stretchy as to be unusable on a metal hammock frame. (Don't waste your time) Since Hatteras no longer makes the cotton hammock I ordered the duracord model.

I put the duracord (which is supposed to be 'cotton like') on my metal frame. The hardware was not as heavy as on my previous hammock and I had to go get smaller S hooks but it's heavy enough to support anything I'm going to put in it. It is stretchier than the cotton but not nearly as bad as the polyester. I had to re-adjust the hanging chains 3 times due to stretch but finally got it to the tension I wanted it. No further problems with stretch. It is as comfortable as the cotton one and I hope, longer lived.

Update one year later: Still happy. The hammock sits out from Spring to Fall. It has not, after 2 seasons, discolored or shown any signs of rot. Still happy.

Buy quality at a fair price and this will last you for years. It is amazing how almost better than Cotton rope this hammock is. We have a cotton Hatteras for home and bring it in all the time but wanted a more weather and dirt proof material for our summer place where no one brings it in all summer. Rain and pine needles and many children's use has proven this to be a great choice. Highly recommend
