The previous reviews were so polarized in relation to this item, that I definitely hesitated ordering. With this review, I hope to give a fair take on the item addressing other reviewers concerns, as well as factors that I would have like to have known in relation to placing the order.

First, I would have given the item itself 5 stars; however, I deducted a star based on my comments under the Packaging section below.

Shipment fulfillment: We ordered this item shortly after Father's Day and it arrived in July. We were notified immediately upon placing the order that the item would not ship until July. (I am guessing perhaps they were out of stock given the recent holiday.) If you are ordering for a special occasion, you might consider placing your ordering sooner than later. Overall, I was not disappointed with fulfillment because I was notified immediately that it would be a while before it shipped.

Packaging: The company does need to seriously consider how they ship this item and I have left separate packaging feedback. Currently the item ships in one large box that was pretty much destroyed by the time it reached our doorstep. As a result of this fact, all of the assembly hardware was missing. I wrote an email via the manufacturer's website and received reply within the same business day and all of the parts arrived via FedEx that same week. Great customer service; however, shipping the item in two boxes, with ALL of the assembly hardware shipping in its own box would be my advice. While there were many holes in the shipping box, none of the contents (outside of the assembly hardware) were missing or damaged. Disappointed in packaging. Faith restored by the manufacturer's awesome customer service and responsiveness.

Paint finish: Our stand arrived exactly as described with an even finish of a dark brown "outdoor furniture type" paint. In addition, to protect the finish, each of the pieces was carefully bubble wrapped. Happy with quality of paint finish and certain it will stand up to the harsh elements of 100+ temperatures.

Assembly: Two people will make stand assembly much easier. My husband began by himself and put together the major components in about 15 minutes, but when it was time to attach the two leg segments together, I helped to brace the piece so he could align and insert the beam pins into their properly sized holes. The bolts are a tight fit, but we didn't have a problem and all holes were properly aligned for fairly easy assembly that took a total of 30 minutes.

Overall: I would order this stand again. I feel it's a fair value for the money and the design is much more appealing to the eye than other metal hammock stands. I do hope the manufacturer reconsiders shipping the hardware separately in its own box; however, if your hammock arrives without hardware, I recommend sending an email via the manufacturer's website and in my experience, I heard back the same day and received the parts via FedEx the same week. We did not find any fault with the quality of the item and I'm certain we will get many, many, many years of use out of it.

It looks great but you will need at least two people to assemble this stand, one of whom must be quite strong. The metal is very heavy and the bolts difficult to get into the holes. Also the holes on one side are too close to the center so a socket wrench can not be used on two of the four bolts. You must have a wrench to assemble this stand. Another negative: it came with the S-hooks but no chain which meant we had to go to a hardware store to purchase 2 short chains.

My Hammock stand arrived in less than a week from Texas to Hawaii. It look great sitting in the yard overlooking the ocean. The box arrived in pretty bad shape and I have my worries, but after unpacking it nothing was damaged. Highly recomend this hammock stand, it looks great and is well constructed. It only took about and hour from taking it out of the box until I was taking a nice afternoon nap in it.

This item came in last week and I have to say the reviews that say it is very sturdy are spot on. The stand looks great as well and is easy to put together. I would highly recommend this stand to anyone looking for one of the metal stands. The design seems to be superior to the other metal stands that are "bent" to create that hammock shape. I know from first hand experience, because my first metal hammock stand broke violently while we were lying on it. This stand is higher quality, very heavy, and sturdy. - You will not be dissappointed.

This stand is beautifully designed. It has three very heavy steel tubes that fit together, locked in-place by integral spring clips. Properly executed, it would have warranted five stars easily. Unfortunately...

It is NOT POWDER COATED, it is simply painted. And in black, not in brown. And very, very poorly: Over at least 40% of its surface, brown primer (at least, I HOPE it's primer and not rust - the only way it could have that much rust on it would have been for it to have been left physically in a puddle of water), was abundantly evident; I had to get a can of black enamel and repaint it (not just touch-up but major re-painting). The tube ends had also been painted, but the tolerances are such that it is obvious they are supposed to be left bare; try as I might, I simply could not get the tubes to fit together until I sanded most of the paint off the ends. Once the ends were back to bare metal and a little spray oil, they went together fairly easily - you'll find that they fit together easier with a little side-to-side twisting (still a tough job for one person, since each tube weighs over 30lbs, but these do need to be quite secure so it's understandable that it should take some force to push them together).

The hardware, which is sealed inside a plastic bag, was missing screws, and is all zinc-plated (for this price you should get stainless, but in any event all the necessary hardware should at least be included!).

1. 1 star off for the boxing, which as everyone else has noted is terrible - it had split in multiple places.

2. Another star off for missing hardware, which was sealed inside a bag and did not simply "get lost" during shipping.

3. Another star off for the TERRIBLE job of painting - paint were it should not be and no paint where it SHOULD be - and accompanying rust and/or primer.

The only reason I did not give this product its lowest possible review is because when it comes down to it, it really is a superior design. The people who designed it knew what they were doing. Too bad the company couldn't ensure that the people preparing and boxing it were equally good at their jobs.

NOTE TO HATTERAS: Improve your shipping box and especially ASSIGN A FLOOR COP (independent Quality Control person) to your production staff, these are inexcusable errors that could easily be prevented.

I ordered this item with 2 day delivery as I wanted to surprise my wife for her birthday. I received it fine in somewhat bent packaging (but on issues) and when opened, it had a big part missing. I called Amazon and they scheduled a pickup to exchange it and sent a new stand with a courtesy 1 day delivery. The old stand was picked up and I got the new stand as per schedule. I spent 3-4 hours trying to assemble this stand but the way the holes are placed, its next to impossible to get the washer and nut both properly aligned with the bolt. Neither of the 4 bolts went in properly and after a long struggle I had to give up on this. Also the one pager assembly instructions with 1 diagram are hardly an help. I am still waiting for this stand to be picked up and still without a stand. So much for the surprise.

I didn't expect such badly manufactured stand after paying good money for it. Not to mention the effort, energy and time, I have wasted in unpacking the packages, trying to assemble the stand and re-packing them. I normally don't write many reviews and am very forgiving in nature but this has been a horrible experience. Stay away from this stand!

The feet don't sit square on the ground and it isn't as sturdy as I would have expected. Overall it's still a strong, heavy duty stand.
