5.0 out of 5 stars Angel: Haunted - WHat I thought
This is the first Angel book in the series not to feature Doyle as a main character (although he does get a small cameo). Interested, I decided to read. Twenty pages in, I was hooked.

It took this reader two months to receive this book. It wasn't worth the wait, but the novel was intriguing. Mariotte doesn't create new character dimensions for our "Angels" (Cordelia, Gunn, Wesley, Lorne, Angel), but he explores what each character means to the other. It's an "Angel" episode with a hint of sensitivity. Every "Angel" fan knows how evil the law firm...

5.0 out of 5 stars Angel: Haunted - WHat I thought, April 19, 2002
This review is from: Haunted (Angel) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first Angel book in the series not to feature Doyle as a main character (although he does get a small cameo). Interested, I decided to read. Twenty pages in, I was hooked.

First of all the story is set on a reality TV show which puts people in a Haunted House who are competing for $100,000. Cordelia is on of the contestants and she sees it as sure fire ticket to fame, as she lives with one ghost, so a house full of them shouldn't be a problem. However one her first night Cordelia has a painful vision of Kirsten St. Clair, one of the women who didn't get chosen for the show but nevertheless struck up a friendship with Cordelia.

Menawhile Angel, Wesley and Gunn are debating what's going to happen to Cordy after the show. After all, if she becomes a big star then she proberbly won't be working for them anymore. However when they watch the first show they get a message from Cordy concerning the vision and start investigating.

Sounds good, doesn't it. Well, this was certainly a good read. I would definitly recommend this to any Angel fans. The writing style and characterization is excellent.

Congrats Jeff Marriotte.

5.0 out of 5 stars On par with the show, February 11, 2002
By
This review is from: Haunted (Angel) (Mass Market Paperback)
Finially, the writers of the Angel book series have choosen to update their books to events relating to the TV series. Wesley and Gunn have replaced Doyle and although Fred has not appeared in the novels yet, the story lines from last season and this season have.

In Haunted, Angel is dealing with his emotions surrounding Cordelia as he is doing in the show. Haunted is a well written book with surprises around every turn. Cordelia has won a spot as a contestant on a reality series in a "haunted house". ALthough she at first believes all the events to be made up, she starts to consider other ideas when she begins hearing and seeing things. The contestants are at the mercy of the ghosts as all outside communication has been cut off. Cordelia has the visions now as she does in the TV series and ANgel will do anything to ease her pain. It's one of these visions that draw her to warn Angel over live television about a girl in trouble. Angel and the gang must figure out COrdelia's message and save the girl as well as save COrdelia from the haunted house.

ANyone who enjoys the TV show will much enjoy this novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Haunted - The way Survivor should be, March 12, 2002

This review is from: Haunted (Angel) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Haunted was my first of the Buffy/ Angel Books available and certainly not my last. I've always been fscinated by the show as vampires have always interedted me since Barnabas Collins.

I found the book very enjoyable to read with out the aouthor getting lost in the many plots that end up being one. The ending was quick, exciting and fascinating pulling the whole text into one plot.

Cordelia's role in the book was outstanding although I thought Angel could have played a bit larger role since it is entitled Angel - Haunted.

It's hard to place these books into the timeline associated with the show which someone who is an Angel/Buffy fan should do. Buy this book as it is great fun and the delving into ghosts varies from the normal demon hunting lives of our heroes although the demons are still pulling all the strings.

I'm onto read BTVS Book of Fours and soon to start the Giles book. Look forward to reading other books by the author as well

5.0 out of 5 stars For Rent: Large Home with Demons, March 31, 2002
This review is from: Haunted (Angel) (Mass Market Paperback)
Today is Cordelia's main chance at a Hollywood career. The lucky lady has been accepted as a contestant on a new version of 'Survivor.' The plan; spend 5 days in a 'haunted house' along with eight other contestants. The last survivor gets $100,000 and lots of good media exposure. Laughing Pig Productions is hoping it has a wild hit on its hands. In any case, the special effects are spectacular, bloody writing oozing from the walls, panthers in the bedrooms, and nighttime visitations. If they were special effects, that is.

Cordelia has hardly arrived on set when she has a vision. Something horrible is happening to Kirsten St. Clair, who Cordelia met when trying out for the show. Desperate, Cordelia manages to get a message out to Angel, Wesley, and Gunn. They find Kirsten has definitely disappeared without a trace. When Angel invades Laughing Pig to get more information he discovers that Kirsten is not the only actress that has disappeared from their stable. His only other clue is the sighting of a strange limousine.

On top of everything else, Gunn is investigating a murder on his own turf. A woman's body turns up stripped of all identifying marks - like her fingerprints and face. The first (and only clue) he turns up is, you guessed it, further appearances of the ghostly limousine. Somehow the corpse, Kirsten, Cordelia, Laughing Pig, and the limousine are all tied together, and several lives depend on it. When our heroes tangle with several new flavors of demon they find a distinct odor of lawyer - the Wolfram and Hart kind.

What Jeff Mariotte has created here is a classic and complex Angel tale which displays all of the four main characters at their best. Mariotte is a veteran Angel writer who can be counted on to deliver the right proportions of action and character. 'Haunted' is set post-Darla, and is a pleasant change from previous books in this series. Gunn and Wesley are well fleshed in, and Cordelia is great in a lead role. While the plot isn't totally original, it has a lot of unique twists and turns that spell plenty of excitement for Angel's fans. Get ready for some serious exorcism.

Awesome book...one of the best Angel books so far! The writer did a very good job writing it. I especially liked how much he exposed the drastic character changes in Cordy. There was also some humor mixed in with the creepy stuff...well written and well worth your time!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fangs For The Memory!!!!, April 29, 2002
By
Daniel Firli (Sydney, Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Haunted (Angel) (Mass Market Paperback)
Unlike the previous Angel novels, this one is set with the Angel, Cordelia, Wesley and Gunn team just after the Darla affair of Season Two.
Cordelia is taking part in a 'Big Brother' style game show where she must stay a week in a haunted house. Just before the cameras start rolling, she has one of her 'mind-splitting, heavens sent' headache messages given to her from 'The Powers That Be'. Unable to leave the premises or call anyone, she must try to convey her message to her teammates through the cameras. Headaches aside, she must also decide whether the ghostly goings on in the house are staged or the real thing.
Meanwhile Angel and co, as well as looking into Cordy's problem, are investigating a Jane Doe body found with demonic markings on her. Everything leads to Wolfram & Hart.
This book reads just like a movie length episode would be like. Characterisation is spot on. You see the difficulties between Angel and his partners after the Darla events, Angels feelings for Cordy are more apparent, the interchange between Gunn and Wesley is hilarious, the relationship between Gunn and his gang is getting tenser plus an insight into why police tend not to deal with the supernatural related cases that occur in LA. Oh yeah, a small cameo from Doyle as well, YAY!
Overall, this book is RECOMMENDED to everyone!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Angel: Haunted, November 6, 2002
This review is from: Haunted (Angel) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was great!Cordelia has a vision while at the house and has to give clues to the gang threw the show. Gunn's gang find out that a women's body was dumped with no identification marks what so ever. What's the deal and are the two related? You have to read to find out. This book had me from the first page, I couldn't put it down. The story with Cordelia in the "Haunted House" was what had me keep reading. I also love the fact that it showed Angel, Gunn, and Wesley all doing their own thing to figure out the case. This is one of the better Angel books I have read and I recommend it to everybody!

5.0 out of 5 stars In a house of its own, August 1, 2002
By
This review is from: Haunted (Angel) (Mass Market Paperback)
If you are an Angel fan, then this book is definately for you. Cordelia wins a contest to spend a week in a mansion for the show "Fear Factor". After a painful vision her first night she begins to belive that this house is more than just a stage setting. With no communication allowed to the outside, how is she possibly going to inform Angel and the gang about her vision? With some quick thinking (not going to spoil everything for you)she gets her message across and the boys come running.

The action was well written and although this is supposed to take place in the 2nd season on Angel, there are already undertones to how ANgel and Cordelia really feel about each other.

I have read every book in the Angel series and this one was by far my favorite. A sure treat for any Angel fan.

3.0 out of 5 stars Officer Gunn, December 25, 2010

It took this reader two months to receive this book. It wasn't worth the wait, but the novel was intriguing. Mariotte doesn't create new character dimensions for our "Angels" (Cordelia, Gunn, Wesley, Lorne, Angel), but he explores what each character means to the other. It's an "Angel" episode with a hint of sensitivity. Every "Angel" fan knows how evil the law firm of Wolfram & Hart can be, but this storyline confirms that there's no "heart" in the law firm. Lilah Morgan is deliciously evil. The plot was predictable and Mariotte should use more colorful adjectives, but it was a fun novel to read.

Jeff Mariotte is quickly becoming my favorite media tie-in novelist. He clearly watches the shows he writes for and understands their characters.

Haunted is well plotted and true to the story. If your an Angel fan I highly recommend this novel.
